I agree. I hope they do still go ahead with it but just recast for the part of Oliver - it could work as the sequel is supposed to take place a while after the events of the first film. But it may be distasteful to carry on the project now. I really like Timothee as an actor and I think he was wonderful in CMBYN.
Yes, I imagine they could always create a new love interest I suppose (I've not read either of the books, so not sure how well that would fit into the author's narrative!). Very disappointing that the film that properly catapulted Chalamet into stardom in my view is now tainted. My favourite scene by far was the conversation Elio and his father had at the end of the movie, really hit home somehow. Such a beautiful film.
When I first saw it there was that scene (THAT peach scene) which made me so so uneasy when I first saw it. It seemed like just for a minute there was a lack of consent and a sort of physical struggle and it felt so odd. Now I'm thinking about that scene and seeing it in an even worse light.
Yes I hear that. The feet-kissing scene during the massage scene was supposedly unscripted as well, which given the nature of Hammer's alleged crimes / perversions makes the scene a little more uncomfortable.
I think I'm going to try and watch the film again tomorrow night and try and focus on Oliver and Elio as characters, else it will keep piling up and I'll feel too odd to watch it again (and I think that would be a shame.) I wonder if Chalamet will come out with a statement at all - I suppose there's no real need, but I imagine this is an odd time for anyone who's played Hammer's love interest onscreen. Not to dismiss the true victims of course, just noting.
