When did your late walker walk

Hi,

DD is in no hurry to walk, shes 15months and is still in no hurry to walk independently. She'll walk holding my finger and on the sofa, she can stand up and dance unaided. But she will only sometimes take a step and then fall over.

Just wondered when other late walkers started walking? DS was walking before his first birthday so I assumed she would be the same

My ds was about 15/16 months old. He could stand from about 13 months old but whereas a lot of children launch themselves off and stagger until they fall over, he appeared to want to be able to do it properly before he tried it.

18 months. She also crawled late - around 14 months. Weirdly she was cruising around furniture etc quite confidently at 10 months, so I didn’t expect walking to take so long after that.

18 months. We had to take the baby Walker off her and hide it. She zoomed verywhere in it. And I mean zoomed. So we thought she wasn’t trying because she had the Walker, turns out we were right snd she walked within a day or two after we hid it.

Little madam. 😂

21 months. She is 10 now and enjoys walking, but I wouldn't describe her as very sporty.

18 1/2 months, at a wedding, as the bride and groom were having their first dance! He just started walking on the dance floor! He’s a doctor now 😊

Ds was 18 months. He was a very good crawler and just showed no interest in walking. We went away for the weekend and he slept through the night for the first time, stopped breastfeeding of his own accord and got up and walked! Sea air obviously did him good!

Over 17 months and I worried needlessly at the time.

Ds2 took his first independent steps at 16 months. Always a cautious baby and cautious child, have recently discovered that he has some spatial awareness concerns which adds up and answers some questions about his general clumsiness!

Both of mine around 18 months

21 months. Bum shuffler. Still not the most physical child at 11 but no particular problems with coordination/balance etc.

First was 15 months. Once she walked she didn’t stop. Walked down the high street the next day.

Second was 18 months and much more cautious.

16 months, 17 months and 19 months. If we hadn’t been in a pandemic then I’d have taken my youngest to get checked out as she was stressing me out not walking. But one day she just did it and that was that. Oldest 2 never crawled, just bum shuffled then walked.

18 months exactly. She was a bum shuffler before that and took a few independent steps. She decided on the day I took myself to the walk in centre with tonsillitis that that would be the point where she for up and walked around the waiting room and expect me to chase after her, which I really felt like doing!!

DD2 walked at almost 19 months. Got up and got on with it. Crawled everywhere before then. DD1 walked at 11 months. So you can imagine the stupid comparison "it's sooo concerning" comments I had to put up with.

22 months. He has been diagnosed with SEN and GDD now. He's 7.

16 months!!! Genuinely thought he'd walk before he was one as he did all the furniture walking, hand walking, pushing things etc etc for a good six months. Took until 6 months to do independent steps but once he did it it was like he had been walking for his whole life

A friend's child was 23 months, a bum shuffler too.

All five of mine were eighteen months before they walked but within days there was no discernible difference between them and family and friends' children who had been walking months. Dn walked at nine months and poor dsis never had a minute so I was pretty grateful for late walkers tbh.

Lots of people have mentioned their late walkers just suddenly walking as though they'd been doing it forever, and skipping the wobbly/teetering stage.
Dd was exactly the same, it's like she was waiting until she knew she could do it properlyGrin

DS2 .. 22m and unsteady for a very long time afterwards. But he has weak muscle tone..needed splints and orthopaedic boots. Walks ok but is very dyspraxic.
It was quite a shock after DS1 who was walking by 9m and vaulting his cot sides by 14m!

20 months and not really doing it confidently until 22 months.

Has been under physio for being a bit floppy/hypertension after early checks. Just wasn’t very interested in moving really. Didn’t crawl until after a year old and sat on play mat and ate lots and got fatter and fatter. Could do lots of other things like knowing colours from 18 months. Was always very cautious at Tumble Tots and at soft play. Not brave. And years later, sport is not her strong point! But can absolutely walk fine and is physically fine. Was discharged from physio just after 2.

18 mouths, never crawled, never bum shuffled, just used to lie flat and roll to where she wanted to be. Got up and walked of her own when she was ready.

20 months. But she was a really early talker - she spoke quite fluently at 16-17 months. I used to ask her why she wasn’t going to walk and she would tell me she didn’t want to. Then one day, she got off her bum with a sigh and walked like she’d been doing it forever. She also decided that as she was going to walk then she didn’t need nappies, and potty trained herself straightaway. DD2 was the exact opposite. Walked at 9 months, didn’t utter a word till she was 3.

My earliest walker (dd1) walked at 16 months!
Dd2 was a bumshuffler and walked at 21 months (she has hyermobility in her ankles, saw a physio, recommended sturdy shoes and she got up and walked)
Ds was 30 months, and then needed a walking frame, specialist boots, splints and a wheelchair, which he still needs for outings (he has low muscle tone as the result of a rare genetic condition)
