The saga continues to continue with more sequels than a trilogy of trilogies...

My 5 year old has not stopped talking about her best friend and earlier on said she didn't want to see her when the nasty bug is gone (that's how I have explained it to her and her sisters, there's a nasty bug going around so we have to try and keep away from other people when things are bad) as she doesn't want to see her when she is a grown up! That hit me, she doesn't believe at the moment that things will improve for a long time. Obviously I told her that she will be able to see her before then and she seemed ok but such a lot has changed in the last year that we are all having to deal with uncertainty. Roll on numbers falling and things returning to normal!

TabbyStar · 09/01/2021 17:21

I just took my DM for her second vaccine, I did actually feel a bit emotional and I'm usually not emotional at all.

It's the people who are are out in town who complain that there are too many people out in town that bemuse me Confused

MagdaS · 09/01/2021 17:30

Checking in. My grandma had her first vaccine this morning. She’s 95.

Very miserable about the masks outdoors rumours. I wouldn’t mind extra restrictions so much if I thought they were actually effective rather than just an attempt to be seen to be doing something.

Aztectrousers · 09/01/2021 17:34

They can sod off if they expect me to wear a mask outdoors.

@TabbyStar There is an admin on a local page who goes out every day to photograph people on the beach and complain that they are not essential trips.

I got banned from the group and some really awful pms and randomly got called a covid denier for pointing out that this wasn't an essential reason to be out.....

ISaySteadyOn · 09/01/2021 17:38

@Wilberforce42, welcome Smile.

Masks outside, well, no. Also, for Londoners, our 'mayor' is not officially re elected and his term has long expired. So he can gtf.

Mrsfrumble · 09/01/2021 17:52

So FIL has been in and out of hospital since before Christmas with various health issues that they haven’t been able to get to the bottom of. He tested positive for Covid, although that didn’t seem to be the root cause of his symptoms. He’s back in again, and I don’t want to go into detail, but from what we heard today it seems unlikely he’ll ever come back out again. DH has to try to process that he’ll probably never see him again. We’re trying to keep everything normal for the sake of the children, who have more than enough shit going in their little lives already. My dad died 2 years ago so FIL’s their last beloved grandpa. We can’t even support MIL as they live 100 miles away.

I feel as if life is repeatedly smashing me in the face with a heavy object at the moment.

TabbyStar · 09/01/2021 18:01

Really sorry Mrsfrumble that's a horrible position to be in, I think there's going to be a lot of emotional fallout from not being able to say goodbye Thanks. My DM wasn't able to be with my DF as he was dying as much as she wanted to because of her ill-health and I don't think she'll ever really make peace with it.

Furries · 09/01/2021 18:08

If anyone was uncomfortable with my posts last night, my intention was not to “decide to come in and control what is permissible to say”.

My intention was to offer my own take on things/an alternative POV - which a) I thought was “permissible” on this site and b) I attempted to do in an even and “non-D” way.

I find it strange that another viewpoint isn’t welcome on this thread, but point taken so I definitely won’t post here again.

Justgivemewine · 09/01/2021 18:09

Checking in, love the thread title, no-one clapped near us but the local fb page nearly imploded when someone complained they were only ones who did and where was everyone else!

@LivinLaVidaLoki, sorry to hear about your brother, hope he gets better soon and stays out of hospital Flowers

{{unmumsnetty hugs}} to everyone struggling at the moment, especially the sahm’s
@BogRollBOGOF, your post of the last thread at Sat 09-Jan-21 08:59:15 was spot on, that’s exactly how I feel too, I can’t do anything for me without interruption, children needing help with homeschooling, needing feeding, needing anything, the constant “muuuuuuuum” for trivial stuff, even wfh dh just coming downstairs from the office, he looks after himself tbf, but he is still just there - interrupting in some way even if it’s just my thought process. I am never alone. Even if I go out for a walk, when I get home I get jumped on before I’ve even shut the door. I just want to walk straight back out again.

Ds1(Sen) is back to school next week. Ironically he is the least demanding of the them all but dropping him off at school will give me precious time alone in the car to think or just put the radio really loud

TheOrchidKiller · 09/01/2021 18:16

@Mrsfrumble
Sorry to hear that.

Where are the masks outdoors rumours coming from? I've seen people wearing them outdoors today but I don't think it should be part of the guidance or mandatory in outdoor spaces. It will prevent so many people who cannot wear masks from going out for exercise or for their own well-being.

I'm fed up with reading about the benefits of the great outdoors & natural daylight to physical & mental health yet at the same time we are getting tutted at for going outside.

Yes, there were people out today, but it was a nice day, there's nothing else to do, & no one was crowding together.

I suspect there are more people going out for walks who previously led sedentary lives, & surely that has to be a good thing for the nation?

I saw a woman squeeze past on the pavement today with one hand over her mouth & the other pinching her nose shut, & I'm assuming she wasn't having a nosebleed. If she'd just waited a few seconds she could've had the pavement to herself & not needed to do the silly hand thing, which I doubt was ineffective against both covid & traffic pollution.

Checking in! Title couldn't be more fitting for me as boiler packed up just before Xmas and took all the grant I had to live on for 3 month's! Haven't stopped crying in 3 days! We all have the bloody virus! Not ill as such but run down by the relentless shouting for more roolz and stripping away of any happiness left! Sorry to vent but I'm a dark place and can't see any light! 😔😔

BogRollBOGOF · 09/01/2021 18:25

I'm so sorry MrsFrumble, and I hope Livin's DB is doing OK.

Face coverings outside or legal limits on exercise are about the last two freedoms I can have stolen from me now.
We don't qualify for any kind of bubble. I am the childcare because there was no other option. The DCs don't fall in the age groups for bubbles. DS1 doesn't need practical care above a NT child (he can just be a bit intensive with his topics which gets mind numbing fairly easily) DM is catered for by DB a mile up the road. I could count family interactions in the past 10m and have spare fingers.

Rationally I know that we're at a tough phase of this, but emotionally I'm still drained because restrictions were too tight in June, July, August when there was far more slack in the system to cope. Knowing that this is the typical peak of annual deaths, and ambulances banked up outside A&E is no novelty. The propaganda machine has made it very difficult to actually switch up my level of concern, especially as my life is so inhibited at present.

Sorry to hear that @Mrsfrumble Flowers

We went for a walk in the snow today. Lots of other people had the same idea. Was still plenty of space though. And we took got chocolates with us. Didn't get arrested. Did almost freeze to death.

My little bit of light this week has been first sightings of the most tenacious snowdrops.

I love the way that such dainty little flowers quietly emerge at the grimmest time of the year.

They help me mentally most winters.

Masks outside? Why? I'm not going it. I'll probably just shove one in my pocket and whip it on should the fuzz make an appearance.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 09/01/2021 18:30

@Mrsfrumble I am so sorry that you are in that position, my best wishes to you and your family. @Furries I am sorry that you feel unwelcome here, your response this morning didn't offend me or make me uncomfortable and I value differences of opinion (as long as they are respectful, which yours was).
@Wishfulthinking1977 I am sorry to hear that you have the virus, hope you all make a full recovery Flowers to everyone

Oh bugger. Hope you're all alright. Bloody boilers, I'm sure they do it at the worst possible time on purpose! Never break in the summer do they the bastards.
Wishfulthinking1977 · 09/01/2021 18:35

Thanks @BogRollBOGOF that's a lovely image 😊 when I can set foot outside the sodding house I will hunt some out xx

Wishfulthinking1977 · 09/01/2021 18:38

@TrustTheGeneGenie absolutely fine thanks! 😊 Most minor cold I have ever had bizarrely! I'm a heavy smoker too so was expecting at least a cough! No taste but that helps with the diet!! 😂😂 Dh is slightly worse with a temp and a cough but seen him worse! Just being unable to access any support for anything is far worse xx

Mrsfrumble · 09/01/2021 18:39

Don’t leave @Furries! Your reply was a kind and thoughtful one. I like to think that ADs can cope with varying view points; it’s only the petty-minded spite that seems to overwhelm MN at times like these that isn’t welcome.

SirSamuelVimes · 09/01/2021 18:39

Hello all. Checking in.

Hope your brother is ok, @LivinLaVidaLoki.

Have done fuck all home schooling this week. Promised myself (and DD, who also can't be arsed) we will start properly next week but am really struggling to find the motivation.

Funkypolar · 09/01/2021 18:39

Mumsnet is going batshit crazy again. I went to Starbucks today and thought there would be Mumsnetters sobbing and shaking over that!

Pleasedontdothat · 09/01/2021 18:39

Checking in ... my calendar for this week is:
Monday - wfh
Tuesday - wfh
Wednesday - funeral
Thursday - wfh
Friday - wfh

And that’s it ... sort of sums up the spirit of January 2021 ...
