The saga continues to continue with more sequels than a trilogy of trilogies...

@Mrsfrumble what about coconut oil in a bath? Or slapping a ton of cream on a large dressing/plaster and adhering that to the main patches, won't require rubbing in. We use scratch sleeves for night time here.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 10/01/2021 21:30

@Seriouslymole I sympathise, my 11 year old is coping really well during this lockdown but struggled immensely in the 1st one. It is hard to present something to our children that we have never lived through either and I doubt any of us have got it right all of the time - in the first lockdown I was very anxious about passing the virus on and passed my fears on to my middle child in particular Flowers

Evenstar · 10/01/2021 21:31

💐 @LivinLaVidaLoki I hope you manage to speak to the hospital and there is some positive news

LockdownSucksBalls · 10/01/2021 21:32

Just coming on for a rant and a bit of self pity. Got a uni grade through tonight and it was utterly shite. It was to be expecting since I'm basically trying to teach myself code languages but I am so gutted. This style of learning just doesn't fucking work for me 😢

I'm one of those annoying people who basically usually gets A's (I do work hard for them so not hosting btw) so 34/100 is fucking pitiful and I am just not good at failing.

Fucking Devi what's her face banging on about 12 week lockdown up here, DP moaning about my drinking (which is bad tbf I do need to sort it out) and kids who just don't give me a minutes peace I'm so fucking done.

To all of you right now ❤️ this fucking sucks.

LockdownSucksBalls · 10/01/2021 21:33

Also a few spelling mistakes in there because of bastard autocorrect!

Seriouslymole · 10/01/2021 21:37

@smallandimperfectlyformed thanks for flowers and understanding. It’s so difficult. Made more so by the fact that DS is generally a difficult and intense child. Brilliant, funny, creative but my word hard work - and this is not helping AT ALL! DD is 2 years younger and deals with everything like a breeze - is a lovely ray of sunshine. Two more polar extremes you couldn’t wish to meet!

Seriouslymole · 10/01/2021 21:37

@LockdownSucksBalls - sorry about your grade - that is crap. So much about this is crap - I hate it.

LockdownSucksBalls · 10/01/2021 21:40

@Seriouslymole thanks. It was to be expected I worked hard on it but didn't really understand it. Lecturer has done the best she can with what she has available. I know I would do so much better if actually in Uni it's just crap and my DD seen me crying about it so I feel so guilty. Pathetic to be crying about a grade but just so fucking done with everything just now.

justasking111 · 10/01/2021 21:48

@LivinLaVidaLoki sorry about the nursing home mixing things up, fingers crossed all will be well in the end. DS neighbour owns a nursing home they had a lot of cases back in April, he was broken up about it, said it was unimaginably awful seeing people you grow fond of catching this bloody virus.

justasking111 · 10/01/2021 21:49

@LockdownSucksBalls son second year student says it is so hard to grasp what the lecturers need from you essay wise when it is just general zoom lectures he is getting better at it but says all in his year are struggling under these conditions, the marks are lower as a result.

TabbyStar · 10/01/2021 21:56

B*llocks I've just seen from another thread DD is not allowed to practice driving (with me). She has no job, no education, she can't see her boyfriend, but that was the one thing we thought she could do as there's the chance of an apprenticeship if she can drive - in healthcare. It's fine in Scotland and Wales apparently but not in England.

Make sure he's using the lecturers office hours. I teach about 400 students in total and I only see about 20 in office hours over the term. I'm happy to sit and have a chat about essay plans and advice about writing but students just don't use the opportunity.

Lifeinaonesie · 10/01/2021 22:02

@TabbyStar that's ridiculous. Surely with fewer cars on the road it's safer and the ideal time to learn Confused

LockdownSucksBalls · 10/01/2021 22:03

@justasking111 I'm 2nd year aswell and I agree with him so much. The lecturers are trying but they are in similar situations I would imagine. Could have kids at home etc. I don't know what he's studying but essays/reports I am doing really well in, my marks are consistently high and I find research quite easy so if I can help I would be happy to? Well-being service have basically told me to ask for extensions but that impacts group work so I feel so shit for doing it.

Buzzinwithbez · 10/01/2021 22:10

Tabby, do they mean driving for the sake of it?
I imagine as long as you were out with a reasonable excuse, she could drive to the supermarket etc...

justasking111 · 10/01/2021 22:11

I spoke to someone from the university this week she is working from home with five dogs, if one woofed it set the others off it was hilarious. It must be so much worse with small children in the house.

@Wishfulthinking1977

A question for my friends on here that are probably more switched on than me! Just living with a scientist/data analyst I have been encouraged to look deeper?! Not disputing the effects of this virus as dh is quite poorly atm, but still question the response! I have just spent ages looking at the death figures for 2020 and I come up with 618,000? From ons, I go back and in 2018 it was 616,000? So in my mind (happy to be corrected) we have 2,000 more deaths with all these measures, how many are caused by them? I'm definitely not saying it's a good number but seeing as I know more people dead because of lockdown in my small town I do wonder! Perhaps if they stopped the testing, social distancing and allowed the NHS to be properly used (stop scaring people from using it?) we would be in a better position? Just my thoughts!
Hi Wishful,

The data that follows is for England and Wales, from the ONS (I haven't yet checked the NI & Scotland sites):

"In 2019, there were 530,841 deaths registered in England and Wales, a decrease of 2.0% compared with 2018 (541,589 deaths)." Source: www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsregistrationsummarytables/2019

"Using the most up-to-date data we have available, the number of deaths up to 25 December 2020 was 604,029" Source: www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsregisteredweeklyinenglandandwalesprovisional/weekending25december2020 (this is provisional/new data at the moment)

It looks like an increase of roughly 73,000 compared to last year for England and Wales.

MrsEWeatherwax · 10/01/2021 22:13

Flowersto everyone. My DF received his first dose vaccine today. No date for DM yet but fingers crossed.
I’m so lazy and depressed today that I didn’t even leave my house at allBlush.

TabbyStar · 10/01/2021 22:14

Govt guidance seems to imply you can't practise at all but no one can find actual legislation so far and insurers seem to be saying it's okay so more chaos and who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

MrsMerrick · 10/01/2021 22:39

@Wishfulthinking1977 - I went and looked up the NI and Scotland stats, too.

NI: 15,758 deaths registered in 2019, 17, 424 in 2020 (approximately an additional 1700)
Source: www.nisra.gov.uk/statistics/deaths/death-statistics

Scotland: 58,108 deaths registered in 2019, 64, 762 in 2020 (approximately 6,600 more)
Source: www.nrscotland.gov.uk/statistics-and-data/statistics/statistics-by-theme/vital-events

Overall, an increase of approximately 81,000. I'm quite shocked by that.

TabbyStar · 10/01/2021 22:41

Most of the increase was early on, not now, when deaths have been looking comparable to other years, though of course there's a lag in reporting and that might have changed.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 10/01/2021 22:59

Thanks guys perhaps I was looking at the wrong figures?, mine was adding up uk weekly to the end of the year? Like I said happy to be corrected xx

CoffeeWithCheese · 11/01/2021 05:11

@LockdownSucksBalls my uni grades have dropped too - think my whole group has. I’ve gone from straight firsts in everything right down - and that was before the schools closed.

And I have gone to every assignment surgery session going as well!

ISaySteadyOn · 11/01/2021 05:58

Are all those deaths officially Covid deaths because, if I recall correctly, the way the data was recorded, you could get hit by s 76 bus but if you tested positive, it was recorded as a Covid death rather than death from being hit by a bus?
Also, we know lockdowns can kill too.

MrsMerrick · 11/01/2021 07:44

This is the number of deaths for all causes (albeit provisional and only up to 25/12 for 2020).

I don't like the use of 'died within 28 days of a COVID test' = dying of COVID - as you say, it could be something completely different (and of course someone could die of COVID six weeks after and not be counted) - it seems a blunt and inaccurate method.
