The saga continues to continue with more sequels than a trilogy of trilogies...

@NannyGythaOgg why don't you like the last paragraph about Chris Whitty that you quoted?

amicissimma · 10/01/2021 17:02

@NannyGythaOgg, I agree about the last para.

While I have every sympathy with the staff involved with treating Covid patients and think we should hear their voices, I am aware that their terrible and intense experience very much colours their view and gives them authority to speak out. I think we need to be careful that the views of people struggling in other ways don't get drowned in the power of the 'experience' message. And I'm not totally comfortable with someone with direct experience has so much influence in government. I think it's hard to find someone with such a powerful message to speak for the 'other' side and give balance.

This is where I have some sympathy for Boris. The cries of 'save lives', 'save the NHS' are loud and valid, but he does have to consider the lives of the population who have to deal with the consequences of lockdowns, restrictions, not being able to work, removal of services and so on, which will probably be longer term.

I didn't say I didn't like it - I said I'm not sure how the last para makes me feel.

I have mixed feelings as I can ascribe but not know his motives and reasoning. I think it's a good thing for him to do, especially during the Christmas period. I can't help but be suspicious as to his motives but fully appreciate that is coloured by my own feelings of his apparent utter contempt for anything other than Covid and the effects of his restrictions on real people.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/01/2021 17:13

But why comment about families @NannyGythaOgg?

TabbyStar · 10/01/2021 17:17

According to The Times today, Boris was the last to give in about schools closing.

NastyBlouse · 10/01/2021 17:17

Another Assassin’s Creed fan here. Terrific fun. I will admit to a love of blasting a fast car around in Gran Turismo too.

I seem to have developed a facial twitch. My upper lip. It’s quite noticeable and I feel suddenly very self-conscious about it.

It’s 100% anxiety/stress related and I know many people have far more serious things to worry about than a randomly curling lip. But it’s really got to me. Sigh

2020BogOff · 10/01/2021 17:40

Trying to catch up with the thread. Really busy so having to dip in and out.

But had a realisation with Hancock's announcement about everyone getting the vaccine by autumn. I emotionally eat and given the low level shit I have put on 7kg since I was last in the office when we got booted out in March. If they do keep their commitment to the vaccine schedule (yeah like I believe that) I want to go back to the office the same weight I left. Shit!!! I need to stop comfort eating 😭

wanderings · 10/01/2021 17:45

According to the police, the "bench arrest" video was stage managed by protestors. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-55609185

If that's true, I think the government and the police need to ask themselves: why are some members of the public feeling the need to do such a thing?

Vintagelovingmum · 10/01/2021 17:49

@Weedsnseeds1 you must be local to us, that's our local hospital too! Hated the scaremongering when they closed it that we were all to blame for spreading it when it was actually the rostering of staff and horrifying to read it actually contributed to that many deaths

smallandimperfectlyformed · 10/01/2021 17:50

@Handeltohendrix that sounds very hard, I am so sorry. For me I am grateful that I have 2 young ones who are able to entertain one another and my oldest can communicate with friends via her phone/laptop. For only children this is harder, especially at the age of your son. It definitely sounds like you need some time to yourself but I can see that it is difficult for any parents at the moment to get any time to themselves.

Buzzinwithbez · 10/01/2021 17:52

The arrest may have been stage managed. However, the policeman was still heard to give false information to the woman who was with the older man, saying that she had been out multiple times that day, which is of course perfectly legal. They really should know what they're policing. Why have they not been properly briefed?

NannyGythaOgg · 10/01/2021 18:01

@ineedaholidaynow

But why comment about families *@NannyGythaOgg*?
I gave it as an opinion - My opinion is that children that are sent off to other countries to boarding school will have different experience of what family life means. I don't have to justify feelings about such things, that is how it makes me FEEL which is what I clearly stated.

Please give your opinion/feeling rather than just randomly challenging mine.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/01/2021 18:07

I'm trying to work out why you linked him working over Christmas and him not understanding family life @NannyGythaOgg. Maybe he was working over Christmas so some of his colleagues could have Christmas with family.

CoffeeWithCheese · 10/01/2021 18:28

Taken me 2 hours to decipher, find out where it's been hidden on the impenetrably disorganised google classroom folders and download the work for DD2 for tomorrow. Thankfully I'm ahead on my own work enough to devote that time to it today - but that's not going to be sustainable for long and she has no chance of being at the age to be able to organise that independently.

SpnBaby1967 · 10/01/2021 18:30

Checking in again, havent made it on the thread for a while but glad to be back.

I've been active on the CV board lately as I am getting throughly pissed off with the rudeness on there. Feels a bit like we're all supposed to care for grannies we dont know, but that doesnt extend to caring for vulnerable (and I don't mean CV vulnerable) people or families they dont know.

I had steered clear for a while due to my MH but now I'm very much feeling like we need as many voices as possible trying to counter the crazy D voices.

CruCru · 10/01/2021 18:33

I’ve just bought two new Bobbi Brown lipsticks, both very similar but I am very pleased with them. I’ve been looking for a colour that is almost exactly the same as my natural colour when I am healthy and cheerful (right now my lips are super pale). These are pretty much spot on.

Handeltohendrix · 10/01/2021 18:47

Thank you for the support, it means a lot. DH does what he can and tbh is v good at times. I just realised, though, that I’m so good at what I do that he doesn’t even realise it needs doing!! Grin
Well we got through today. Everyone fed, everyone still in one piece. That’s one day further along.

ShoeJunkie · 10/01/2021 18:52

Just had to break it to DS2 that he can’t have a birthday party at the end of the month Sad

Ah! I get you

I was pleased with the working over Christmas - with reservations as to why. The thing about families was meaning that I don't think he understands.takes into consideration the issues facing families, in particular those with young school age children without recourse to childcare and nannies when advising on lockdowns.

I certainly don't think the issue is confined to him of course. I have an issue with many medical people being so focused on the issue they are dealing with that no other factors are considered. (And others too - not just medical but anyone who is so focused on their own specific issue and have no regard for any other)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/01/2021 19:05

My brother is in hospital.
He went in at 1am this morning. I found out about half an hour ago. Strange though as he was quite poorly yesterday so when I called at lunchtime for an update I was told he was getting better.
Honestly you couldn't make this shit up.
The woman who called me was on a different shift so she doesn't even know which hospital he is at. He's been in hospital all frigging day and no one thought to tell us. Now I know he is in hospital but I've to wait until after 8 when the other shift come on to find out which bloody hospital.

MercyBooth · 10/01/2021 19:10

Oh @LivinLaVidaLoki that is shocking. Flowers

Curlygirl06 · 10/01/2021 19:14

@TabbyStar

Personally speaking I'd like to be furloughed sometimes, especially when I have arseholes to deal with on a regular basis, but on the other hand I'm older and don't have young children to worry about. It's very hard dealing with people's feelings and situations, sometimes I want to scream.

We're all (nearly all?) being psychologically damaged in some way, and abandoned to get on with it ourselves Thanks

Thank you for the flowers.
DrDiva · 10/01/2021 19:22

Oh Livin I’m so sorry. Flowers

smallandimperfectlyformed · 10/01/2021 19:22

@LivinLaVidaLoki I hope that you get to find out which hospital he is at soon and that he recovers well there. @Handeltohendrix if you are always doing it and your DH is not aware, perhaps it's time to talk to him a little bit about the pressure you are feeling? From what you have just said it sounds like he's a good man and I am sure he would want to help....appreciate that I don't know the ins and outs of your personal life so I hope that this was not too much of an unwanted suggestion.

justasking111 · 10/01/2021 19:27

Friend has two offspring doing medicine. Sent me a message from a lecturer that many medical students have not returned (OK) but they are not turning up for zoom seminar, lecturer has asked nicely if they are all ill or hungover etc. and has forwarded more information to them.

Made me think when they bang on about putting medic students on the front line to help out, how many actually will?? And are we asking too much of them??
