Carpet that isn't grey but won't look like shit? Anyone?

I have toddlers and dogs. I don't really want grey carpet. I want a nice light carpet that will contrast with our oak features. I want one of these. But all I keep hearing is how much I'll regret it!

Is there no other choice but grey? I'm sad!

Get a hard wearing Berber carpet in the colour of your choice.

We don't have the budget to pick our own outside the included options. We can replace down the line but for now we're limited to one collection!

Are they artificial? Artificial carpets wash well, so I don't think it will be too bad. You can always put cheap darker coloured rugs over the high traffic areas. IKEA do a huge range, many very affordable.

I have one like the second pic, a sandy colour. I definitely wouldn't have gone this light if I had toddlers. Dogs aren't a big deal as I hoover every day and dry their paws before they come in.

You'll regret that colour for sure! It'll look dirty and worn very quickly.

If you don't want grey you might be quite limited though, maybe a mocha brown? What about a dark colour like navy? What's the rest of your house colour scheme like.

Hmm I would not get a bright carpet of any colour with kids and dogs. I have a dark grey carpet and accidents have happened but it’s forgivable because of the colour.
If is stain free and your happy to replace when needed then get it.

Our carpet is greige colour and goes well with our walnut furniture downstairs and light oak furniture and white furniture upstairs. When the sun is shining it looks beige but on a dull day it's more grey but a warm grey not the industrial grey that you find in offices.

Ask in your local area for places that do roll ends, you can often get a better carpet cheaper from such places. There might be some wild card options. Does it need to be neutral or could you go for a colour?

I'm a single adult with a black & white cat, I totally regret getting a cream carpet for my bedroom.
Downstairs is the original brown hard wearing stain proof carpet that was there when I moved in, If I had the choice id now choose something similar but in a pinky grey to go with the sofa & walls. Or even laminate with big rugs.

I've got something similar to the second, it's called cloud so technically grey but does look a bit Sandy. It cleans up really well when it gets dirty, doesn't look worn at all.

My SIL has one the same as the first in your pic. 4 years on it still looks great! They’re obsessive about no shoes, and no eating in the living room which obviously helps a huge amount!

Where is the carpet going? Throughout the house or can you limit it to stairs only and put hard flooring everywhere else?

Carpet in lounge, stairs and whole of upstairs. I've tried arguing for wood throughout the downstairs but dh will not have a lounge without carpet.

In that case I would make the lounge and upstairs shoes off and dog free spaces, install a stair gate at the bottom of stairs and lounge door to prevent any unsupervised access and restrict food to the kitchen only.

I've got 3 children and a cat. We have light beige carpet throughout the whole house, and whilst its more maintenance then wood or a dark carpet, we don't really have an issues. We bought a vax carpet cleaner which we use every few months, and have a runner by the front door. Shoes off as soon as we come in. The room that gets the most stains is our boys bedroom, my youngest always seems to find a pen or pot of play dough that ends up smeared into the carpet!

I live on my own, no pets and have a light sand coloured carpet throughout my flat. It looks gorgeous but never again.

I'd go for the 2nd one if you have toddlers and dogs. A cream carpet if your dogs have an accident is a bugger to clean. Anything with more of a contrast will, hide stains so much more easily 9 & what I mean is you can clean up spillage and accidents so that the carpet it clean ( i.e. nothing dodgy left on it - but stains i.e. the colouring ) is a different matter.

I have just had a pale sage green carpet installed throughout. It looks beautiful and is very neutral - goes with different colour schemes nicely.

I have had a beige Berber carpet, for 17 years, survived to babies, 1 dog & 3 Cats. Been professionally steam cleaned many times.

I have a sandy coloured carpet, a bit darker than your darkest one. It has a lot of flecks in it. It's been down 3 years so far and is absolutely fine. The shop recommend an artificial one as it was more resistant to dirt than wool. In the shop, it was virtually impossible to tell the difference between wool and this particular artificial carpet. I suspect it was quite a good quality artificial carpet.

We have sandy coloured with flecks a bit darker than the one you have on the right. Matches all colour schemes and wears very well. We have oak doors etc. Grey is very popular now but will date I think.

Will look for a darker one. We have oak doors and an oak staircase so want something that will go nicely!

We have a dog and a toddler and have something this sort of colour. ( Not this actual one)It's got specks of different colours in so hides the dirt well. Not the best quality in the world but is perfectly acceptable.

I would say definitely a carpet with different flecks/shades in it, not a 'uniform' one. Flecked carpets hide dirt much better

I can't get over this trend for grey. My first house, bought 1990 had grey carpets and curtains which I put up with, but never really liked. 30 years later the trend comes round again.
