if you're having takeaway for dinner, do you eat a normal breakfast and lunch?

Yes, but I don’t eat more than a normal meal so why wouldn’t I?

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 00:24

oh that's fair enough.

i guess just because most people get a takeaway as a treat and it's generally already a lot more calories even if it's a smaller portion but i guess you're right

If I'm getting takeaway then I will intentionally miss other meals to make up for it..

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 00:26

this is what i was thinking of doing.

If I’m trying to lose weight yes, small breakfast and lunch.

But at the moment no - food is my only pleasure now Grin

8obbingabout · 06/01/2021 00:35

When I know we are having a takeaway I always have a small lunch like a soup or salad or something else not very filling haha So that I am super hungry by the time I eat the takeaway and I really enjoy it!

lavenderlove · 06/01/2021 00:37

Please don't intentionally skip meals ever! You are allowed a treat! Maybe go for a walk if you feel you have to do something but your body needs food through the day.

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 00:37

this is what i'm thinking of doing.

for context i'm having fish and chips tomorrow night and wondering what other people do.

i want to lose weight but i'm sure one day wouldn't push me over lol but if other people trying to lose weight have done something then it'd be helpful to know what.

: )

If I'm getting a takeaway for my evening meal (which is the time I usually get them - around 6pm - 8pm) then I have my other meals as normal during the day.
Breakfast, and lunch.
I'd be fkn starving if I missed my lunch, there's nothing wrong with a treat tea (main evening meal) every now and again!

Ploughingthrough · 06/01/2021 00:48

I would cut back the next day.

Robbybobtail · 06/01/2021 00:48

When I’m dieting I always have a cheat day. Fish and chips is around 900 calories (that’s not including extras) so if you had, say soup or a salad for around 200-300 cals for lunch you would still only be having around 1200 cals which is what I usually aim for to lose around 2lbs a week. Or sometimes I have 1000 cals a day and then have around 2000 on a Saturday or whatever. I know it may seem old fashioned but good old calories counting is the best and easiest way to lose weight and keep track of what you’re consuming IMO.

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 00:48

lol if i'd eaten good the last few days i'd just have a treat dinner but i've eaten horribly the last few days (lots of pb cookies and chocolate lol) and i'm scared i'll gain weight lol

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 00:49

i don't really want to start counting calories again as i've done it before and got obsessive then started binging every few days bc i cut them down too much :/

I always found that being good mon-fri then relaxing at weekends worked well for me as I can’t deal with just being “good” every day. You can’t just binge on whatever you want though but I do usually still lose.

Don’t have the motivation to do it at all at the moment though! Fish n chips is probably the best takeaway to have if any. Just enjoy them, don’t sweat it (go for a nice long walk the next day!)

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 00:59

thanks.

am trying to get out most days for a walk anyway so will just try and have a longer one tomorrow or day after.

If you skip meals or eat less, you're likely to gorge or over eat and therefore take on more calories from the take away.

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 01:04

that's a fair point.

OP posts:
grassisjeweled · 06/01/2021 01:38

Yeah, I'd be strict during the day the day to allow for the extra cals

Bloodybridget · 06/01/2021 02:26

900 calories for fish and chips, really? I'd have guessed far more than that.

zeitgeista · 06/01/2021 02:27

i'm getting a small portion so i'm not sure if it's 900 for them or for a larger one but i'd assume it's for the small portion

Not necessarily. Lots of people fast.

Guineapigbridge · 06/01/2021 03:13

No. A takeaway every now and then is no big deal. It's the daily choices that add up to weight gain: milky coffees, sugary snacks, chocolate bars, wine etc.

Peppafrig · 06/01/2021 03:43

If I’m having a takeaway I won’t have lunch

What harm do you think will come to someone who skips a meal every now and again? Where do you think the '3 meals a day' protocol comes from?
