if you're having takeaway for dinner, do you eat a normal breakfast and lunch?

A takeaway, no, because we might not even know that’s what we’re going to have and it’s only occasionally anyway, and I’m just generally not weird about food or restrict calories.

But I do find I usually eat a smaller breakfast on Sunday if we’re having a big roast for lunch. It’s not because of calories, but mostly just because I wouldn’t want to eat a big lunch again so soon after a (probably later than normal) breakfast on Sunday.

I rarely plan to get a takeaway, it's usually something I decide on the spur of the moment every few months, so I've usually eaten breakfast and lunch. I wouldn't skip a meal just because I was having more calories.

I tend to eat lunch earlier (not less) so I’ll have good appetite for whatever it is (very very rare here to have takeaway - haven’t since March anyway so having to think back)
I tend/ed to do ‘adjustment’ following day - possibly no breakfast (often don’t have anyway not for diet reasons) or salad/fruit featuring more.

We don't get takeaway very often so no I wouldn't, we do however have home made pizza quite often so on days i'm planning that I will try to eat a healthier lunch but I agree with pp. if I skipped lunch completely i'd end up eating way more at dinner so it would defeat the point. We are more likely to eat out than get a takeaway but usually go out for lunch so if i've done that I generally skip dinner or have something small because i'm just no hungry

We dont have takeaways often and they're usually last minute so I dont really have the chance to prepare in terms of what else i eat that day. However I like a big fry up as a friday night treat and I'll skip breakfast that day or have a very small one and I have a run to.

Sundays I also like to run 5km before I have my roast dinner

Having a heavy takeaway in an evening seems to make me less hungry the next day, especially something like fish and chips.

If you do keep an eye on calories then you’ll be familiar with the idea that weekly, not daily, counting is best? Allows for a bit of variation in daily intake. Agree with PPs that if you usually eat lunch but skip it for a takeaway, you’ll be ravenous and potentially over-eat, which might make you feel bloated and unpleasant (You won’t gain weight from one meal, though)

If I know I'm having a takeaway I'll tend not to eat much during the day. I may skip breakfast and just have soup or something for lunch.

But takeaway is usually a spur of the moment thing for us.

Had Macdonald's last night (DD's choice before online schooling starts today). By some miracle I'd only had a smallish amount of food all day so still went to bed on about 1450 cals, which is my goal for trying to lose weight.

I would have a light lunch if I knew I was having a large dinner.

So normal breakfast, then maybe just a couple of pieces of fruit for lunch.

Thedogshow · 06/01/2021 07:11

I actually do the opposite and have some soup/salad and some fruit an hour or so before the takeaway, and then I find I can enjoy it but have less of an urge to overeat because I’m not starving.

AlwaysLatte · 06/01/2021 07:13

We sometimes get a takeaway from the excellent Bangladeshi restaurant in our village, and I love to be starving to really appreciate the generous quantities they serve so I normally skip lunch (my husband and boys don't though).

MrsJBaptiste · 06/01/2021 07:20

Yes because when we get a takeaway, we generally dont eat until 10-10.30pm (we like to have drinks first!)

If we get fish and chips in the week, we'll eat at our usual time (6.30ish) and class this as a normal tea rather than a treat takeaway.

goldielockdown2 · 06/01/2021 07:20

I will 'account for' the extra calories and fat either on the day or the day after a treat meal whether it's a takeaway or not, yes. It's just sensible.

rc22 · 06/01/2021 07:20

Yes I eat a normal breakfast and lunch then I feel more in control of the amount of takeaway I eat. If I miss breakfast and lunch, I tend to really overeat the takeaway and then eat rubbish for the next couple of days too.
