Another thread in the saga filled up (so no forwards link)

I think maybe we're endurance athletes, or maybe multievent like a decathlon Grin

@Evenstar sounds like your acquaintance was being held to account by someone who recognizes hypocrisy! I am glad that they deleted their status.

I loved Little Chef as a child. My grandparents used to take us there as a treat. Clearly they were ahead of the trend of motorway services as a special expedition.

RobinHobb · 05/01/2021 16:39

I'm actually scared of what Boris had to say at 5pm. What else is he going to take away?
Cancel nursery too?
And why hasn't it been leaked?

flower11 · 05/01/2021 16:46

I don't agree with education can be made up, maybe for the middle classed advantaged , but for the most disadvantaged . I think they are missing out on too much. And it's not just the education it's the social development that is so important for early years. This is why remote learning doesn't really work for key stage one.

My youngest is already behind on reading I got a letter at Christmas to say he was going into a focused group to catch up ,that's not happening now. And I've just had to buy a pack of ort books on Amazon to teach him to read as no library or books from school. I am in a position to throw time and money at him, others don't have this luxury and it's not fair on those children to miss out.

Weedsnseeds1 · 05/01/2021 16:48

I fully agree with you flower11 I can't see how it would be possible for the majority of affected children.

MercyBooth · 05/01/2021 16:52

Anyone else noticed that now we are in lockdown again the amount of news stories where journos have got "exclusive access" to various hospitals again, telling horror stories has shot up

Then i hope any relatives who have been barred from visiting kick up a huge stink.

NoisyBrain · 05/01/2021 16:53

This morning I was on a telephone appointment with the doctor when, I shit you not, mid conversation she had a mini rant about two women she could see walking past her window who ‘obviously’ weren’t from the same household and didn’t they know they shouldn’t be out walking together. I was actually speechless, which is unusual for me.

MercyBooth · 05/01/2021 16:54

Why the fuck have the BBC got Neil Ferguson on. Wonder if the hypocritical narcissistic cunt will have his married lover over for a shag this lockdown.

And thats another thing.............Tier 4 WAS a lockdown.. Fucking gaslighters.

@Seriouslymole

My favourite meme of all time throughout this whole thing was a very spiritual one “whoever said one person can’t change the world, never ate an undercooked bat”.
Love it! GrinGrin

DS is just finishing off his maths for the day. He will only do it sitting on my lap. He’s slight for a 10 yo, but still my legs are going to sleep. But it was due in 90 minutes ago so whatever it takes...

I'd have said they could be their bubble.

Just seen a friend post that she is glad whitty and valance are on as they have so much professional integrity she trusts them completely.
I commented "is that not the two who presented a graph showing 4k deaths a day to justify lockdown in November, then went on record the very next day to say that the data was out of date and the 4k was largely horseshit that they wouldn't have shown had they the choice?"

Iheartmysmart · 05/01/2021 17:27

Whitty and Vallance annoy me as much as Boris does now.

Someone mentioned measures for next winter. FFS.

AcornAutumn · 05/01/2021 17:53

@MercyBooth

I prefer honesty, i took from the duration of the Coronavirus Act that there would be similar next winter, sorry.
MercyBooth · 05/01/2021 17:56

Fair point. Its better than nudge theory which really gets my back up.

NannyGythaOgg · 05/01/2021 17:56

@MercyBooth

Well, due to mismanagement, cuts and mismanaged cuts, the NHS reaches breaking point every winter from around this time until spring. I suspect there will be an element of measures every year from now on. Particularly since Covid will be endemic - even though good old fashioned flu will be the cause of more hospitalisations than Covid.

So long as it is sensible measures - ie avoid busy places where possible, don't shake hands or hug strangers and wash your hands regularly then I will support. Closures of any kinds - definitely not.

Yes, I hate that too.
RobinHobb · 05/01/2021 18:01

Well I'm really struggling to see the end game here. Covid will become endemic and in due course mutate perhaps to become yet another cold. I'm worried that the "nanny state" will keep us in this restricted situation every winter. Not because they CAN and are on a power trip but because it's the safest vote winning routine. People like me (and you guys) who make their own risk assessment won't be allowed to "in case we should get sick and burden the nhs". Most people are terrified of covid. My DH is terrified of even getting a cold, but he is completely healthy (young,40, fit). It's people like him who will keep voting in these twats who will implement lockdowns. Although having said that this lockdown had to happen i guess

AcornAutumn · 05/01/2021 18:03

Warning to those using trains

No doubt Tube will be next

So they've delivered 1M vaccines and there are 1M people with COVID? Place your bets here for the latest conspiracy theory Smile

MercyBooth · 05/01/2021 18:13

Our bus service was every two hours in Lockdown One. Ridiculous when there are three supermarkets and several chemists in the town and the ppl who work in them but dont drive needed to get in. And we have never ever had a Sunday service. Our normal service is only once an hour.

RobinHobb · 05/01/2021 18:18

For the pp who mentioned this:

"The prime minister said there would be daily updates on vaccinations from Monday to ensure "maximum transparency"
