Another thread in the saga filled up (so no forwards link)

I think maybe we're endurance athletes, or maybe multievent like a decathlon Grin

@Iheartmysmart they certainly do. I think everyone's been a bit extra tense and (in some cases) arseholey since yesterday and there's definitely been an upswing in snappish behaviour. I got yelled at yesterday from across the street for not wearing a mask outside and this morning my younger brother rang me almost in tears because some fool saw him and his boyfriend out walking together, assumed that they were separate households 'illegally gallivanting' (!) and gave them an earful, which became a homophobic earful upon being told that they were in fact a couple who live together.

I'm hiding now until everyone calms down a bit. Today's excitement is cleaning the floor with a different scented cleaner. Oh, the dizzy heights etc.

TabbyStar · 05/01/2021 10:58

I'm up for a meeting at Gloucester services if we can get there without being stopped! Though I see there's a lot of police off isolating, so that increases our chances.

TabbyStar · 05/01/2021 10:59

That's obviously a joke before someone accuses me of being a "plague rat"....

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/01/2021 11:01

I just commented on my cousins post that choking deaths are up 17% so maybe we should stop eating anything at all, not just the jelly beans of death.

I'm laughing at the calls to get the Army on the streets - the entire fecking guard room at the local base are isolating after a bunch of them came down with covid and they all work in a room about as small as my toilet!
AcornAutumn · 05/01/2021 11:04

@Iheartmysmart

The bloody press have a lot to answer for! I’ve just been out for a walk with the dog (my second today but don’t tell “the others”) and have been called a covid denier by another dog walker. He quite confidently stated that there were 270 positive cases in our area yesterday as that is what it said in the local paper. When I pointed out that was for the entire town and we actually have 16 cases locally, he told me I was being stupid and burying my head in the sand! Um no mate, it’s on the government Covid dashboard for all to see IF they look rather than take the headlines as gospel.

The phrase “there is no point arguing with stupid, they’ll beat you with experience every time” has never been more apt.

Is this someone you know or a random chat?

I was having a chat with someone from the block management company this morning. He does admin for payments and lettings and all sorts. He was saying that he thinks the majority of this block doesn't really do MSM. He was saying "is it a generational thing" and I said "dude, watch your step, I'll be 45 in lockdown" 😂

But I must admit, i did consume more MSM before this. When I realised it was complete propaganda, I jacked it in completely.

AcornAutumn · 05/01/2021 11:07

@LivinLaVidaLoki

My cousin posted this today. This is the thing that makes me so cross, the laughable idea that "the virus doesn't discriminate" coupled with "you're stupid if you don't get it by now"
I cannot believe people are this thick.
Iheartmysmart · 05/01/2021 11:08

Ooh I’m up for Gloucester services as well.

@NastyBlouse It’s just bloody ridiculous isn’t it? What is wrong with people. Most of those I bump into are fairly sensible but if he spouted his nonsense to somebody already fearful then he could do serious damage. My view is just be nice people and check your facts before being a twat.

I have emailed Boris with my suggestion of publishing the number of vaccinations carried out each day as well. In the spirit of transparency.... we’ll see!

Iheartmysmart · 05/01/2021 11:11

@AcornAutumn Sorry, too slow at typing this morning! Just a random person out with their dog. I do look at MSM just for the laugh now rather than to actually get any information.

AcornAutumn · 05/01/2021 11:29

So he started on at you about cases out of the blue?

I'd have told him to piss off, but I'll grant you that's easier in london.

Iheartmysmart · 05/01/2021 11:35

@AcornAutumn I said morning to him as I walked past and he said “back to where we started then, good job too with all the increase in cases” which then led to the rest of the conversation. The blind faith in what he’d read was staggering.

Reminded me of something my mum used to say to us when we were kids. One of her favourite phrases was “well if so and so told you to jump off a cliff would you just do it or would you question why”.

ISaySteadyOn · 05/01/2021 11:41

Seems people are now tumbling through the air. Off to catch Pokémon and hatch eggs.

Bollss · 05/01/2021 11:44

Lol apparently we boast about exposing strangers for fun Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/01/2021 11:53

I just saw that @TrustTheGeneGenie and responded too. Honestly some people need to get a fucking grip.

Bollss · 05/01/2021 11:54

They certainly do.

NastyBlouse · 05/01/2021 12:06

That of course depends which strangers, and which parts are being exposed.
Curlygirl06 · 05/01/2021 12:13

For some reason I thought the lockdown was being reviewed in 2 or 3 weeks, was most miffed when I found out it was for 7 weeks. 7 weeks-Jesus!
Awaiting information from my eldest, she's a teacher so I need to know what the plan is re her working and home schooling her eldest. That'll be fun!

justasking111 · 05/01/2021 12:18

DS has gone back to uni. he got into a bit of a state last night so this morning rang the uni. helpline, wait for e mail they said. So rang Unite who took 1k out of my account yesterday, they said he could come back, I said will security block the entrance, no they said. So thank god told DS to pack last night he was off within the hour. I am in bits, covid not bad here, getting worse again in Leeds, but for his mental health had to let him go. We shalll not see him again till May, Easter is only a week and with covid isolation etc. was not thought worth it.

Reedwarbler · 05/01/2021 13:15

Another one here for Gloucester services!
Went to the garden centre this morning for some dog food and ended up spending nearly 60 quid as they had some nice sale stuff.
In our area/cluster of villages, those who calculate this sort of thing extrapolate the figures, so they publish that we have, say 450 cases per 100,000, which sounds bad, but they have worked that up from the actual cases which are in fact something like 20 for a population of 7000. (I have plucked these figures from the air as an example btw). The latter figure doesn't sound half so bad, does it? But of course, people only see the former one. Nothing about this type of reporting is going to change because Ofcom is allowed officially to stamp down on dissent in the media, which I find very frightening. The only voice you are allowed is one of agreement and compliance. I find it all very sinister. Of course, many posters on mn display their thorough brainwashing most aptly through the written word.

Iheartmysmart · 05/01/2021 13:28

@justasking111 Horrible for you but as you say it’s necessary for your DS’s mental health to go back Flowers Can he come home again before May if he decides he’d prefer to be at home?

I’ve just seen the article in the local paper that the random dog walker was on about this morning. They are quoting rates per 100,000 for the 27 different town wards which is ridiculous. He’s just seen 275 and assumed that’s the number of cases in the area. The entire town only has a population of 220,000 so why present the information in this way it’s so misleading.

Iheartmysmart · 05/01/2021 13:29

Ha! Cross post with @TabbyStar

AcornAutumn · 05/01/2021 13:29

"The entire town only has a population of 220,000 so why present the information in this way it’s so misleading."

That's why they do it.

countrygirl99 · 05/01/2021 14:05

My potential service stations are Toddington and Newport Pagnell. Nowhere near as tempting as Gloucester or Tebay. In fact, not tempting at all.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/01/2021 14:08

Anyone else noticed that now we are in lockdown again the amount of news stories where journos have got "exclusive access" to various hospitals again, telling horror stories has shot up........

Seriouslymole · 05/01/2021 14:15

I am still determined to be positive so I'm delighted to say that

a. the dentist was open and despite the receptionist saying when I called that they would only look at the "injured tooth" (can a tooth be injured? maybe they said "problem tooth") the dentist did in fact give him a full check up whilst he was there which was great.

b. the cake shop was open :) (but had no sugar free cakes and DS is sugar-free so that was less good)

c. I have managed to get DS in to see the counsellor he saw for 6 weeks last year who helped him enormously. He's going once a fortnight during lockdown. He struggled so much last time that I can't go through it again and neither should he. He was threatening to throw himself out of his bedroom window and all sorts.

d. DD is in school as they are happy to have children with one parent as a key worker and DH is a teacher albeit part-time.

e. DS' school are providing a full time-table online. That said, this will have a shelf-life of about a week I reckon - you cannot engage properly in online lessons - they need to be back in school!!
