(Not judging the house in any way, just the amount of grey)

I'd change the cheap nasty flooring and fake grass but apart from that I think it's alright! My new house is all grey too, there was literally 9 different shades of grey paint left in the garage for us 😂 I do plan to decorate but it could have been a lot worse, my sister's house was mainly red when she moved in!

Immrswhistledown · 02/01/2021 19:16

Never mind the colour, I was distracted by the poor finish.

tomnjerrylover · 02/01/2021 19:17

Grey is the new magnolia

theverygrumpysanta · 02/01/2021 19:17

Not all of them do...and even if that one does, that's so awkward.

And a toilet that close to the sink is so unhygienic...

The best thing about Ilkeston is the road out!

Crankley · 02/01/2021 19:23

I think it's hideous with tiny rooms (no floor plan), grey garden walls {left over paint from the interior?) which looks more like an institution than a home and topped off with disgusting plastic grass. Honestly I wouldn't buy it for any price.

megletthesecond · 02/01/2021 19:24

Grey has dated very quickly.
And hideous plastic grass too.

Chumleymouse · 02/01/2021 19:26

You can still get houses like that in surrounding towns for as little as 70k it’s a good start on the property ladder if you don’t want a large mortgage.

Wrennie24 · 02/01/2021 19:28

So so boring. It's the up to date magnolia. Shows lack of imagination and ability to trust in choice of colour. So many houses now all grey usually with some sparkle and silver. As dull as the imagination of their owners.

Bluntness100 · 02/01/2021 19:30

I think the issue is it’s been done cheaply and in quite cold greys. It wouldn’t cost much to brighten up /redo as it’s so small. Lick of paint in the living room, couple of big rugs covering the grey carpet, and even a replacing the small amount of kitchen tiles, even leaving as is and putting some colourful accessories in and some nice blinds. That would be very easy to do up.

Ideasplease322 · 02/01/2021 19:38

I would prefer a blank canvas like this, easy to inject some colour.

I prefer white paint to grey, But it’s not offensive. East to change.

AlCalavicci · 02/01/2021 19:40

That is a whole lot of grey ! I bet when you go back outside ( the front door ) its like moving into a fancy tecnicolour world !
I agree with PP that rusty railing needs painting , and presuming the railing goes the lenght of the block of houses how do you get from your car to your house without walking down the middle of the road

LST · 02/01/2021 19:40

You could add your own touches but I aren't really a fan of the grey.

I like the low maintenance garden. Absolutely its mumsnet so the grass will be unnecessarily slated!

megletthesecond · 02/01/2021 19:47

yy ideas. White is easier to warm up than grey.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 02/01/2021 19:47

I'm not a fan of the new grey fad - particularly people who paint the outside of their houses in that dark almost black grey. It's so ugly! What's wrong with a nice pastel?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/01/2021 19:49

@SaturdayAfternoon

I genuinely thought the photos were black and white!
No you didn't. That's just what everyone says on these threads 🙄
PattyPan · 02/01/2021 19:58

I did actually come across a house listing with black and white pictures the other day - totally bizarre! www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/72192501#/

Fckingfuming · 02/01/2021 20:06

Some shower screens are hinged, so can be pulled out before getting in the bath, but it still looks tight if that's the case here. If not 🤦

Bluntness100 · 02/01/2021 20:10

Agree, unless you’ve sight issues no one would think they are black and white photos, it’s become a weirdly common thing to say on here. [ confused]

I think Grey can be done very well, it can look lovely. As said this is quite hard and cold though, they aren’t warm greys, but easy and cheap enough to fix.

Craiglang · 02/01/2021 20:13

I genuinely thought you'd made a mistake and the pictures were just in black and white but that blue reflection in the bathroom picture says otherwise Shock

Spidey66 · 02/01/2021 20:20

Loving this review of the NatWest hole in the wall....the image of fireman nipping into Wilkos for 2 bottles of a fairy Liquid will remain with my forever.

As spectacular as this hole is in both its construction & design (and it really is!), unfortunately I can award it no more than a single star due, in no small part, to a lack of eben the most basic health & safety precautions! More specifically - an indication of width. Whilst attempting to wriggle her way through, my wife (who is a larger lady) became trapped solid for a terrifying 45 minutes! Were it not for the local fire brigade (with the assistance of two large bottles of Fairy Liquid, purchased from the Wilko's across the way) she may stiil be there now! Surely to god an appropriately placed sign, advising of a maximum width, is long overdue? I think we can all agree that being stuck fast in any ring is never a good thing (particularly for such a long period) can we not? Come on Natwest!.....this is a deathtrap in the making! AVOID!!!!!

Apart from the kitchen tiles, I quite like it Blush

VinylDetective · 02/01/2021 20:33

@Thewiseoneincognito

My kitchen cost almost as much as that house 👀😐

That aside, it needs gutting I expect it was a quick flip with B&M tiles etc, cosmetic coverups masking a need for real work.

Exactly. It’s a FTB or BTL. It doesn’t need gutting at all, it’s just had that done. It’s perfect for its target market.
WanderingHopefully · 02/01/2021 20:37

We're looking to move at the moment. So many houses are completely grey. Tbh we'd offer much less on an all grey house to take into account the cost of new carpets/flooring and painting throughout.

Plump82 · 02/01/2021 20:38

I like it. As a blank canvas. My house is mainly grey but the livingroom has mustard and navy and the bedroom always has bright bedding with brightly coloured bedside cabinet, white furniture and candles. Im pleased we went with the grey as its very easy to match with other colours. I think with this house though the grey is very cold. The shades we chose for our place aren't and it probably helps that we are south facing so it always feels warm.
