Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

Good that he’s on cpap and kidney support, hopefully it’ll take some strain off his body. He’s in the best place. I’ll be following and thinking of you both Flowers

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/01/2021 15:15

Hopefully he’s going to icu more for the renal support than respiration support if hes only needing cpap. That sounds positive?

Trumplosttheelection · 02/01/2021 15:37

As the op already knows, covid hits kidney patients really hard and recovery will take a lot longer than in a 40 yr old without renal failure. Needing renal support is as serious as needing breathing support through ventilation, it means the body needs major organ support. However it's support that icu is ideally equipped to provide and treatments are loads better than in the Spring. Hang in there op, will be thinking of you.

You must be so worried. Hoping you get some good news soonFlowers

BadEyeBri · 02/01/2021 15:54

OP my uncle (obese, asthmatic and 74) was ventilated for Covid at the start of November. He is home now and on his way to a full recovery. Even in the darkest moments there is hope. You remember to take care of yourself too

Yes, that Dr was great doing that, it helped me stress a little less at the beginning of last year.

I think the £20-£30 (can't remember) I spent on my oximeter was the best money I spent last year.

Hopefully by starting kidney support now they can maintain the use of his kidney.

I hope they can turn him around quickly & he can come home, where he belongs.

Have you talked to DD about her feelings of possibly having passed it onto DH? There might be something specific she feels she did 'wrong' & needs to talk about.

Chewbecca · 02/01/2021 16:20

Fingers crossed for you.

A friend (with Covid) has just come out of ICU and off ventilation, weaning off oxygen now and hoping to be home soon.

Couchbettato · 02/01/2021 16:20

Things are so much better in terms of treatment. CPAP over intubation. Less plastic tube induced pneumonia.

I wish your husband all the best and sending you positive vibes.

I'm here for you OP and seeing you love xx

yuyubooboo · 02/01/2021 16:24

I work in ITU. All the staff will be doing their very best for him and he's in the right place. We care so so much for our patients and meet multiple times every day even mid pandemic to fine tune their care and pay attention to every test result we have. My thoughts are with him and you all - your daughter did nothing wrong (neither did any of you!) it's just a blood awful virus. Hugs to you all, my fingers and toes are crossed. Thanks

BenoneBeauty · 02/01/2021 16:27

Sending you strength Op and wishing your DH well.

Thanks to @yuyubooboo for what you do and what you wrote - your work is very much appreciated and hearing how you care is lovely.

Hi OP, just seen this thread and I wanted to pop on and wish you all the best and send you a virtual hug.. I really hope things turn a corner for him.
A family member was in hospital for covid... We were allowed to drop items off like phone/charger/family photo, child's get well card at ward and as they got better more things.. Dressing gowns, PJs, underwear, books, snacks etc.

Agree with PP hospitals (even non covid wards) are dealing with more calls due to lack of visiting... Best to ring and leave number.. When ring back ask for best time going forward.. We got through 4 wards over 2 hospitals and each was different...

I hope your DD is OK too.. Sounds like my eldest is her age and he would be devastated at thought... Despite it not being his fault..
