Warning for tailgating - just curious

I’ve been sent the attached - completely accept it and it’s worked, I’ll change my ways (I honestly don’t normally do it, but get frustrated as there's a lot of lane 2, 3 and 4 hoggers, but I still see why I shouldn’t and won’t again)

But I’m just really curious how they detect it from the cameras? Just interested in the technology and how it works.

Anyone know? I drove this route everyday so on my best behaviour now.

My three dogs travel in the boot of my car. If I was to suddenly stop, and you were tailgating me you may not be able to stop in time to avoid hitting me, given your close proximity.

If my dogs were harmed or the boot opened by your car driving in to mine and they jumped out and were subsequently hit by other vehicles, I would get out and kill you.

There is never any need to tailgate. Always keep a safe distance to allow you to stop in time if the car in front suddenly comes to a halt.

@Soutiner
I didnt realise people put their dogs in the boot. I've owned dogs my whole life. They sit in the back seat.

I was going to say that but thought I would get jumped on for it![/quote]
Grin

I’m okay with being jumped on for this. They really are grim.

christmascarly · 29/12/2020 22:13

I've never had a dog but I'm envisioning an estate or 4wd style car.. not a vw golf..

Clymene · 29/12/2020 22:14

I don't lane hog @Babdoc but I have been tailgated when overtaking slower traffic by people who think driving under 100mph is unacceptable.

Dogs have to be safely secured in your car. (To prevent them becoming projectiles in an accident) Often, for larger or multiple dogs, this means a crate in the boot of the car.

You must be extremely unobservant then.

I have three dogs. The back seat wouldn’t be spacious enough, especially for the Longdog when he lays down.

We go places where it’s muddy and having them in the back seat even if there were room would be annoying to constantly keep clean.

MangoSeason · 29/12/2020 22:17

I don’t get tailgating. So a driver is going slow like a git in the fast lanes, creating a dangerous situation. Hey, I’ll tailgate and escalate that dangerous situation exponentially and put my life, my passengers and other road users in even more danger. Slow drivers in fast lanes are bad drivers and are the type to panic brake suddenly. Why the hell would you want to be anywhere near them? To prove something? Do you think they care? Is your life worth it?

Finfintytint · 29/12/2020 22:17

My dog travelled in the boot ( long wheel base) and it’s quite normal for an estate vehicle. We were rear ended at 50 mph and fire service removed my severely traumatised dog from the rear after some fucker failed to brake. Like the above poster, I wanted to harm the idiot who had done this.

JacobReesMogadishu · 29/12/2020 22:17

The problem is some people tailgate “middle lane hoggers” but the “hoggers” are doing 65-70mph and going past the lorries doing 58mph on the left. But the aggressive twats are cross not everyone else is doing 72mph minimum.

Same. The most important things in my life travel in the boot of my car and if they get hurt because of someone else’s dangerous driving, I will not car about the consequences on my actions.

Op, they don’t send that sort of letter out for a brief moment of driving too close. You obviously dangerously tailgated for a sustained period and your blasé attitude is worrying.

AnyFucker · 29/12/2020 22:18

Christ, you are brave putting that on here

supersonicginandtonic · 29/12/2020 22:18

Tailgating is dangerous but so is lane hogging. I have people who sit in lanes 2,3 and 4 when they can drive to the left. Move over ffs! It even says it on the matrix signs at times.

This. I drive up the A26 regularly and my god, if I'm overtaking a lorry or something going at 50 and I'm going at 79, people race up behind at over 100 and drive right up my arse with no stopping distance at all. It's a crazy road. And this is two lanes but people drive like they're in the motorway fast lane.

These fucking idiots should be hauled up every time.

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 29/12/2020 22:19

Going at 70....

I used to keep my massive greyhound in my Toyota Yaris boot. If she was on the backseat she would rest her head on mine when I was driving which I found off putting!
Soutiner · 29/12/2020 22:20

My whippet if allowed in the car would want to sit on my lap and then he would start playing with the indicators, the wipers and sounding the horn!

Even worse, he might embarrass me by picking his nose when we stop at traffic lights.

Totally agree, both those things are terrible. One doesn't excuse the other. If someone is hogging a lane give them space as they're probably a shit driver.
christmascarly · 29/12/2020 22:22

@JacobReesMogadishu I love that image Grin

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 29/12/2020 22:23

I use a fitted back seat crate. The boot is the most likely place to get hit; it would just make me tok nervous putting my dogs in there.

Baycob · 29/12/2020 22:26

@Babdoc

But we people not also breaking the Highway Code by speeding ?

supersonicginandtonic · 29/12/2020 22:27

@iftherewereahorseyinthehouse definitely! Have you notice people drive worse in the rain too? I was on the left hand lane driving in heavy rain, a few days ago, a 4x4 eas that close I couldn't see his headlights in my rear view mirror.
Lots of people sat in lane 2 as well, same journey. Having to go to lane 3 to go past them, due to not undertaking.

Vinorosso74 · 29/12/2020 22:27

I hate tailgaters so am pleased this is being done. I had one up my arse for ages on the A1 in the summer. I was in the middle lane overtaking a load of lorries. What really annoyed me was the tailgater could easily have overtaken me in the outside lane! They shot past me once I passed the lorries and moved across but there was no need.

Soutiner · 29/12/2020 22:27

I wouldn’t be able to lug the massive crate that holds three dogs in and out of my back seat every time passengers sat in the car!

What if I go out with people and dogs? Do the passengers have to get in the cage with the dogs?

This conversation is going from the sublime to the ridiculous.
