Like everyone else we are home New Year’s Eve.

Would like a special tea- fed up of buffet food, had Chinese last night , cooking curry tonight.

So ideas for a good special tea - we don’t really eat fish either

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale

Beef wellington.

Same.

Jerusalem artichoke veloute to start, then beef Wellington with potato dauphinois, followed by something puddingy. The DC have requested steak which is an easy enough ask!

I'm very much looking forward to it.

Our local Indian takeaway are doing pre-orders only so we have ordered a nice selection of starters, curries and sides for us to all dig into and there will be ice cream in the freezer if anyone has room for pudding!

Starlightstarbright1 · 30/12/2020 08:23

We buy a baked cheese dip from Aldi. It comes in a ceramic pot so works the same

A tartiflette, we had it Boxing Day, it was so good we will have another one. With other crackers, cheese, hams, olives, and salad.

Oh, I was just about to google ‘Buy a Fondue set’ when I saw the comment about needing lots of people. Could you not fondue for 2?

ILoveAnOwl · 30/12/2020 11:01

Rost beef with all the trimmings here.

mbosnz · 30/12/2020 11:41

We're having a bbq, as is traditional. Grin

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I just make stovies like my mum does but sub in veggie stock, gravy and quorn I'm afraid. Still tastes good though.

So:

Chunky diced carrots, neeps and tatties, frozen diced onion (mum does fresh admittedly) quorn chicken chunks or soy beef style chunks, brown off the main ingredients except tatties, add stock, maybe some other herbs if you fancy (it's very much a "what's available" dish) then add the tatties and bring to boil then simmer for about 30/45 mins serve with well fired rolls

@CherryPieface whereabouts are you? It's always a Hogmanay thing here (West coast) as I say to prep stomach for the celebrations. At least in my family.

LadyJaye · 30/12/2020 19:54

Fondue and party food on Hogmanay, then, being Scottish, making a vegetarian 'steak' pie with the leftovers of a seitan roast we had on Christmas Day for Ne'ers' Day. Smile

Brainwashed · 30/12/2020 19:56

We're having Mexican tapas...cooked my DS Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2020 19:57

Thanks Graphista. I might try like that but with chopped up veggie sausages, rather than Quorn/soya chunks, as not very fond of either of those.

Stickybbqwings · 30/12/2020 20:02

We’re planning to dress up so I quite fancied the M&S dine in deal but there wasn’t much choice when I went last night so picked up a load of party food instead. There’s only the two of us and I might have gone slightly overboard so we could be eating it NYD as well Blush

DumpedByText · 30/12/2020 20:05

DD (13) and I are having, steak, chips, garlic mushrooms, peppercorn sauce and sweetcorn.

Followed by lemon roulade and cream, and I'll have several G&Ts! 😂

Bluntness100 · 30/12/2020 20:06

I’m going all out here, as I’m bored and we can hopefully spread it out to last till late and close to the bells

Starter prawn cocktail -Prosecco
Main, steak, baked potatoes, cauliflower cheese, garlic mushrooms and onion rings -red wine
Pudding m&s triple chocolate cheese cake
Cheese biscuits and port.

I reckon if we start about seven, we can be eating rhe cheese board at eleven.,,gotta do something to stave off the boredom..😃

LastChanceBalloon · 30/12/2020 20:07

We’re having fajitas and then later raspberry pavlova.

Stickybbqwings · 30/12/2020 20:08

Oohhh how could I forget.....pornstar martinis to start of course Grin

AnaisNun · 30/12/2020 20:10

I’m solo, as the little one will be in bed waaaaaaayyy before midnight. So planning a baked Camembert with stuff to dip, and some smoked salmon with horseradish and a big green salad (basically leftover from Christmas). And someone bought me a bottle of Bolly as a generous housewarming gift, which I’d LIKE to add to the mix, but think is irresponsible when in sole charge of a minor Envy

AnaisNun · 30/12/2020 20:10

Salad isn’t leftover! That sounds awful Grin

mrsdavegrohl · 30/12/2020 20:32

Steak pie is definitely for New Years Day, we have it every year.
For hogmanay we are having Chinese food!

CottonSock · 30/12/2020 20:43

Lobsters (frozen ones, Tesco- not posh), rolls, chips, coleslaw, corn cobs

Thedarknightsaredrawingin · 30/12/2020 20:49

We are having antipasti, cheese, nuts, fruit, bread and lots of champagne. Have posh chocolates and caramels for something sweet too.
