Like everyone else we are home New Year’s Eve.

Would like a special tea- fed up of buffet food, had Chinese last night , cooking curry tonight.

So ideas for a good special tea - we don’t really eat fish either

Baked camembert, prosciutto, chorizo, smoked salmon, pate, nice bread etc

EternalOptimist7 · 29/12/2020 16:51

We’re having steak, chips, petitpois & breaded garlic mushrooms. Not sure about dessert yet. I never have room anyway!

NeonSparkle · 29/12/2020 16:53

Homemade pizza planned here too! Other years we’ve had lasagne, or fish pie, or fajitas with all the fancy toppings that we don’t usually do ( like guacamole and sour cream etc)

Stradivari · 29/12/2020 16:56

@inquietant we’re doing mexican too! I’m making a chimichurri marinade for thin steaks, with a corn salad, pico de gallo and guacamole and shedload of nachos! Served with piña coladas! Very exciting!

ElectricMistofelees · 29/12/2020 17:14

Fondue here too! Can’t wait Grin

mommybunny · 29/12/2020 17:14

I love that people are planning family parties for NYE - I’m glad I found this thread as I am keen to make fried squid and am looking for something to accompany it.

One favourite NYE party meal of ours is steak frites but I’m planning on roast beef for New Years Day so don’t want beef two days in a row. Gotta say that fondue sounds amazing and I would do it if DD liked cheese.

GameSetMatch · 29/12/2020 17:18

American diner type food, chicken Maryland, Siracha fried prawns, fries, coleslaw, corn on the cob, ribs and wings, onion rings, it’s so unhealthy but tasty and a good new years treat.

TheGonnagle · 29/12/2020 17:18

We’re having a Balinese feast, as our Balinese holiday was cancelled last March, and then the rebooked holiday for this coming March has been cancelled too.
So we’re having sate lilit to start, ayam betutu to follow and then (incongruously) mango and chocolate pavlova.

hellswelshy · 29/12/2020 17:53

M&S dine in menu x 2 for me dh and dd's. Looking forward to it!

partyatthepalace · 29/12/2020 18:08

We’re having steak and ale pie

MrsDThomas · 29/12/2020 18:10

Tesco finest meal deal here. Bulked up with lots of veg and fruit with the cheesecake.

And a bottle of M&S rosé prosecco.

Kids have requested pizza and dough balls and Babycham for my 16 yrs old.

gerbo · 29/12/2020 18:13

Tapas here! Calamari (not homemade), Serrano ham and melon, chorizo in red wine, manchego, pork chops in spices and wine, green salad, chicken/green bean rice, and a few more dishes I can't remember!

Churros from m&s to finish or knickerbocker glories as these were a smash hit on Christmas Day.

gerbo · 29/12/2020 18:14

And a bottle of Prosecco, of course! Bed for us will prob be at 1030...

gerbo · 29/12/2020 18:17

I just googled your Balinese food @TheGonnagle and it looks delicious...

Ragwort · 29/12/2020 18:21

We've got a raclette - doing cheese, steak etc. Also promised to make guacamole as a starter ... meant to do it over the weekend but avocados went from under ripe to mushy overnight.

I'd forgotten about Tartiflette - love it.

MinnieMountain · 29/12/2020 18:26

KFC. It’s a tradition in DH’s family.

Need pudding ideas though.

Lulu1919 · 29/12/2020 18:32

Marks n Spencer dine in for two for NYD dinner
Pate ( which we plan to have NYE with other bits n crusty rolls )
Very nice looking chicken Kiev
Mash with truffle
Bottle fizz
We didnt get the pudding ( got pate instead ) as we've lots of chocs etc here already

TJ17 · 29/12/2020 18:36

Lots of local pubs and restaurants near me are doing takeaway, have a look and see near you?

You can have a fancy 3 course meal at home, lay the table, light candles and dress up 😊 (this is what I'd do if I didn't have a 4 month old this year 🤣)

Camomila · 29/12/2020 18:39

party/buffet food and prosecco with token vegetable sticks and hummus for the DC.

Fruit, ice cream, and christmas chocolates for pudding.

MonsterKidz · 29/12/2020 18:41

We’re doing personalised nachos.

I have disposable foil trays for us each to make them in. I’ll make taco beef, tortillas, have sour cream, guacamole, nacho cheese sauce, cheese, jalepenos, salsa etc and we’ll each do our own version. exactly how we like it!

Standrewsschool · 29/12/2020 18:44

@inquietant

Warm, I think you'll find ours is the best pizza ever Grin
Actually, my son did the best homemade pizza on Christmas Eve!

We’re having steak and chip on New Year’s Eve.

ServeTheServants · 29/12/2020 18:48

We are having kedgeree and Buck’s Fizz 🎉
