Like everyone else we are home New Year’s Eve.

Would like a special tea- fed up of buffet food, had Chinese last night , cooking curry tonight.

So ideas for a good special tea - we don’t really eat fish either

Mixture of Waitrose canapés here, loads and loads. Few video conga scheduled and hate eating on camera so shall eat between calls.

Quornflakegirl · 29/12/2020 19:23

I've ordered a big mixed sushi platter from Waitrose. Doing satay chicken skewers, pork and vegetable gyoza, chicken and vegetable boa buns. Bought some Japanese Ramune which the kids will enjoy.

I've made my mind up. Going to do this Brazilian stew I think.

We are having a second Christmas dinner!

foreverandalways · 29/12/2020 19:43

Making a curry, rice, naan bread...plenty of cocktails and yummy dessert...happy new year x

fairydustandpixies · 29/12/2020 19:47

I may make a cheese sandwich and share it with the dog.

pinkfluffybunny · 29/12/2020 19:53

We're having an Indian takeaway on NYE. Been looking forward to it.

But on NYD I'm making homeade steak pie and homeade chicken and mushroom pie. Served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. We usually go to my Mam and dads for lasagne and fruity turkey curry, but like most things, that's not happening this year....... or next year as it will be by then!

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 29/12/2020 20:04

A winter bbq, will sit out beside patio heater and fire pit or brought inside to eat if it rains

noodlezoodle · 29/12/2020 20:04

This thread is making me hungry and now I really want a tartiflette.

I usually make the beef stew and cheddar cobbler in this link for NYE - not sure if I can be bothered for just two of us this year, even though it's delicious: www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/jan/10/hugh-fearnley-whittingstall-recipes-stew

optimisticpessimist01 · 29/12/2020 20:08

Were debating between homemade pizza and steak

Graphista · 29/12/2020 20:10

I'm having veggie haggis and roast fixings same as I had for Xmas day and hopefully the Xmas pud I didn't have Xmas day as had made too much on the dinner that day - lesson learned, fewer potatoes and veggies this time

I'm Scots, the traditional meal here is home made steak pie to "line your stomach" for the nights celebrations, something my ex declined to his regret at his first Hogmanay - he learned a lesson there too.

All yours sound yummy. I love anything cheese based and am debating Tartiflette (sans bacon or with veggie bacon) for some other time

PalacePaper · 29/12/2020 20:27

Homemade pizzas here too Smile I usually use Paul Hollywood's dough recipe which is lovely, but can be tricky to get the bases to stay in shape, they sort of shrink back in.

So I might try try @StealthPolarBear 's recipe instead Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2020 20:46

Graphista - do you by any chance have a veggie stovies recipe?
Apologies for the thread hijack!

merlotormalbec · 29/12/2020 20:57

We've brought a beef Wellington from Aldi which Wel have with truffle and parmasan chips with tenderstem broccoli

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 29/12/2020 21:02

Just 2 of us so steak and a nice bottle of Rioja

MinnieAnonyMouse · 29/12/2020 21:17

Not much help, OP, but we're having prawns, scallops and lobster with homemade bread. I got a good bottle of champagne when I qualified which we were saving for a occasion - think it may be popped as a fuck you to 2020! There's also black forest gateau if we fancy it and some nice chocs.

MinnieAnonyMouse · 29/12/2020 21:18

Our new years day menu may be more your thing? Roast duck, dauphinoise potatoes and braised red cabbage

Starlightstarbright1 · 29/12/2020 22:32

Showed Ds thread . He wants a roast but wants to cook it. All good but was going to do roast New Year’s Day. His favourite is dauphinois potatoes. I think that may have swung it.

I am going to search up Sri Lankan meals too. It’s on my bucket list of places to visit - although that won’t happen anytime soon

I had too look up tartigleffle. It looks lush definitely something we would eat.

I might do the us dinner type thing New Year’s Day .

We are having roast ham & trimmings with triffle for dessert. Party food in the evening... NYD its roast beef with Yorkshire pudding.

CherryPieface · 29/12/2020 23:31

Beef/mushroom stroganoff (one of us is veggie), Russian potatoes and greens. Yum.

CherryPieface · 29/12/2020 23:35

@Graphista - steak pie is for New Year’s day, not Hogmanay! It’s to deal with the hangover etc. OH will have steak, I will make a veggie version. Quite like Simon Rimmer’s veggie pie recipe which he did on Sunday Brunch. Might give that a try!

AlternativePerspective · 29/12/2020 23:40

I desperately want to have a fondu as I haven’t had one in years and DS never has. But it’s just me and eighteen to DS so too few people. Plus I’d then have to buy a fondu set.

So we’ll have party/buffet food and cheese/charcuterie.

whaa · 30/12/2020 00:11

Yum

AlwaysLatte · 30/12/2020 00:13

7 hour lamb here. No problem being around while it cooks this year!

AlwaysLatte · 30/12/2020 00:16

I love the idea of fondue tough. Funnily enough I was only talking to my Dad about fondue a few days ago and I haven't thought about it for years. My pink Le Creuset fondue set needs another outing!
