Like everyone else we are home New Year’s Eve.

Would like a special tea- fed up of buffet food, had Chinese last night , cooking curry tonight.

So ideas for a good special tea - we don’t really eat fish either

@TJ17 this is what we’re doing with DC (aged 7-13) They are super excited! Canapés, cocktails/mocktails, starter, sorbet palate cleanser, main, assiette of mini desserts, tea/coffee and petit fours...

Crunchymum · 29/12/2020 18:50

Mezze for two complete with baklava for dessert (we'll feed the kids earlier. They can choose between burgers or hotdogs Shock)

lowbudgetnigella · 29/12/2020 18:51

NYE buffet style party food ( fizz for me Schloer for kids) New Year's Day got a joint of pork, full on roast sponge pudding (and then snooze I think)

@HelenaJustina that sounds amazing 🤩

Even when Covid is a thing of the past I may have to do this with my 2 when they are a little older 😊

ScrapThatThen · 29/12/2020 18:56

Oooh so many lovely ideas here! I used to be a really keen and adventurous cook but 3 small children (who are fussy and don’t really sleep), no time and exhaustion have stopped me cooking anything more interesting than a big old chilli for a while.

For NYE we are having Sri Lankan take away from a great new local pop up which I think is going to become permanent. But I might try some of these other ideas!

If we weren’t doing that I would probably do lots of cheeses, dips, nice bread and posh canapé type things from M&S. might do that NY Day!

Oh and champers obvs! I’m basically drinking champers every day at the moment because I’ve decided it’s Christmas and Covid is shit so why the F not!?

DancingQueen2018 · 29/12/2020 18:57

We’re also making pizza.
Had fondue (cheese, meat and chocolate) on Christmas Eve and it was amazing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/12/2020 18:57

We are having cheese, lots and lots of cheese Grin

Bloody love cheese.

dementedma · 29/12/2020 18:59

Havent given it a thought. Dont bother with New Year so we'll just have whatever's in

CinnamonStar · 29/12/2020 19:01

I was looking forward to ours - gammon followed by Christmas pudding.

But now I want cheese fondue instead!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/12/2020 19:01

@gifmenu

Tartiflette....onions, potato, bacon, garlic, cream, cheese and white wine.....what is not to like? With crusty bread and green salad.....yum.
Have you got a recipe for the tartiflette?

It’s one of my holiday favourites but I’ve never really pulled it off at home.

poshme · 29/12/2020 19:02

@SnakeRabbitMouse can I come too?

poshme · 29/12/2020 19:03

Or I'll come to yours.
poshme · 29/12/2020 19:03

@MotorwayDiva

Baked camembert, prosciutto, chorizo, smoked salmon, pate, nice bread etc
Right. Lining up the places to visit.
poshme · 29/12/2020 19:04

@MonsterKidz

We’re doing personalised nachos.

I have disposable foil trays for us each to make them in. I’ll make taco beef, tortillas, have sour cream, guacamole, nacho cheese sauce, cheese, jalepenos, salsa etc and we’ll each do our own version. exactly how we like it!

This is brilliant! Think I'll try this next weekend.
poshme · 29/12/2020 19:05

@Crunchymum where do you get your baklava? Tesco didn't have any this week and I LOVE IT.

poshme · 29/12/2020 19:07

We are having smoked salmon on crackers, then steak & chips with creamy garlic mushrooms & rocket salad. Little choc puddings from Tesco. Washed down with Prosecco & red wine & then probably some port& cheese.
Planning dry January...

Passmeabottlemrjones · 29/12/2020 19:07

Ooooh fondue, good shout!

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/12/2020 19:10

We are doing deep fried squid, beef short ribs and then apple crumble. Starting the marinade tomorrow.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 29/12/2020 19:12

We've decided to do a Nando's fakeaway, I'll do peri peri chicken with chips and spicy rice. Will probably buy most of it as ready prepared as possible, eg microwave rice, Nando's sauce, oven chips. And ice cream for pudding! Ben and Jerry's or something we don't often get.

ilovethecold · 29/12/2020 19:12

We are having a fillet steak

Yetithesnowwoman · 29/12/2020 19:14

We’re having Mexican style canapés followed by chilli with all the trimmings, maybe the odd Margarita too Smile

SpamIAm · 29/12/2020 19:18

I thought about tapas but I can't be bothered so I'm doing a sort of charcuterie board instead. Will include some chorizo in red wine and a baked Camembert.

DH suggested a buffet of different dishes representing key moments of the year (can you tell he wouldn't have been the one planning and cooking it?). Decided against it but will do a rainbow-shaped fruit platter and meringue snowgies.

Twobrews · 29/12/2020 19:19

Can't decide between,
Cheeseburger casserole loaded fries,
Steak pie with colcannon,
Chicken Zorba with homemade flat breads

We've also had a voucher for the local pub takeaway for Christmas so could order their NYE banquet complete with cocktails, also have a voucher for the local Indian takeaway so that's the final option.
