So Madeleine is my favourite name for a girl and I am partial to Maddie/Maddy (which spelling do you prefer?) but I was trying to think of alternative nicknames maybe playing on the D, any ideas? Thanks I’m advance!!Smile

I have a Madeleine! She is Maddie to us. But also Mads/Maddie Moo 😁. I guess any other nicknames might just evolve naturally for yours !

FestiveStuffing · 29/12/2020 14:20

Delly?

littlestrawby · 29/12/2020 14:24

Ours is a Mads which suits her perfectly Smile sometimes also call her my little madling which is an unofficial secret nickname Grin

We have a Madeleine known here as Maddie, Mads, or the family nickname of Minky.

CormoranStrike · 29/12/2020 14:42

Lainey
Lena

Sheleg · 29/12/2020 15:04

Leinie? I've never understood the popularity of "Mad" or Maddie in general. It means mentally unwell!

YoniAndGuy · 29/12/2020 15:16

She will be Maddie.

You can't control nicknames - it's the one thing to watch for. If there's an obvious nickname, it's very likely they will end up as that no matter what convoluted 'Dinky Doo' you come up with.

YoniAndGuy · 29/12/2020 15:20

Sorry that sounded harsh! it wasn't meant to be - and I like both Madeleine and Maddy actually!

I was thinking of a friend, who called her DD Rebekah - spelled that way as she HATED the nn Becky and was determined that she would never be called Becky for short. Grin Yes - everyone warned her not to do it.

Her Becky is in her teens now and her mum STILL goes on about how much she wishes she hadn't called her Rebekah now.

Becky loves being a Becky except when she's Becks. Her mum literally won't even allow that within her hearing. Oh lordy.

Cheesypea · 29/12/2020 15:22

I know a 'mad' it suits her.

SedentaryCat · 29/12/2020 15:33

We have a Madeleine - Maddie or Mads for short.

nosswith · 29/12/2020 15:37

Of the two spellings, Maddie.

Though given Madeleine McCann, I would not choose the name myself.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/12/2020 15:39

Maddie or Lainey are both nice.

notacooldad · 29/12/2020 15:40

I think its a lovely name.
Nicknames will evolve.
I wouldn't force it.

JamieLeesCurtains · 29/12/2020 15:41

Lena in my Scots side of the family

movingonup20 · 29/12/2020 15:44

I have a Mads, her choice as she's grown, Maddie has a little 'un

YesPleaseMary · 29/12/2020 16:43

I have a Madeleine, she is Madeleine and only occasionally Maddie.

Preparedtobetoldimwrong · 29/12/2020 16:46

I teach a Lainey. Only found out recently that her birth name is Madeleine but her ‘known as name’ is Lainey.
DS is Matthew - only his older sister gets away with calling him Matt in my hearing!

PoppyOppy · 29/12/2020 16:46

My DD’s nickname is Minky and she's not called Madeleine or anything beginning with M! Grin I do love the name Madeleine though, it's so pretty (but difficult to fit little children to spell, so understand the nickname request)

PoppyOppy · 29/12/2020 16:47

Dee or Lainey are great nicknames too.

notacooldad · 29/12/2020 16:47

Though given Madeleine McCann, I would not choose the name myself
Why have you made this about you? No one cares if you would choose that name or not.
There's always someone to put a downer on things.

Ansterdame · 29/12/2020 16:53

I prefer l maddie to anything which uses the D. For some reason I have a pet hate of nicknames which use the second half of a name but that’s just me probably. For example I had a friend called Andrew who called himself drew and I always disliked it although of course I called him drew as that was his preference. Andy makes much more sense to me in the same way that maddie does. You may want to completely disregard this though!

Twerking9to5 · 29/12/2020 16:53

@YesPleaseMary I kind of wish we’d kept using Madeleine for longer but so quickly it became Maddie! I just love the long version. I’m going to make an effort to bring it into everyday convo more and not just when I’m cross Grin

lachy · 29/12/2020 20:32

I have a friend with a DD, Madeleine, she's generally called maddie moo. My DD also has a "M" name and is also called Moo as a nickname.

or stinker, or ratbag or grumble bum, anything other than her name really

Crumpetycrump · 29/12/2020 20:33

My friend is known as Mad

ChristmasBubble · 29/12/2020 20:36

The only thing I can think of using the d would be Delia which isn't short for Madeleine but looks like it could be 😂
