Ok, so, I know this is asking the impossible but here we are.

When I was in primary school (so 1998 latest) our teacher used to read us short stories from this book. I really want to check it out for my nephew but I can't for the life of me remember the name.
The front cover was quite bright, there was definitely a dinosaur (could have been a dragon but I don't think so) on it. The whole cover was a picture when it opened up and I remember the tail end of the dinosaur being on the back.

The book wasn't actually about dinosaurs, although one or two of the stories may have been. I distinctly remember a story in there that featured pink iced buns.

Anyone hazard a guess? I realise this post makes me look like I'm smoking something, I'm not I promise.

The front cover pic was an outside one, bright blue sky and I think hills in the background.

Was it a book of riddles?

pinkdragons · 28/12/2020 21:36

It rings a slight bell. Could it have been The land before time? Book about dinos but it was all hidden meanings for something else? It had an unusual front cover kind of curved (could have had a tail I don't remember)

THIS SITE IS GOOD

Pinkstars2501 · 28/12/2020 21:48

No none of these, Thankyou though. Not riddles, short stories.

It could have been one of those "......and other stories types"

It's bugged me for years as I loved when they read from it. It wasn't anything particularly educational or meaningful. It was just fun story time.

I've even tried to email the school and ask because the teacher still worked there up until a couple of years ago. Unsurprisingly they never emailed back, probably because they have far better things to do!

Ray Bradbury Dinosaur Tales?

Pinkstars2501 · 28/12/2020 21:57

Nope.
It wasn't a book full of Dino stories. It just had one, maybe two, with a Dino in and the front cover was like a mash up of all the stories in the book. The Dino just happened to be the dominant picture on the cover.

Can't figure out how to post pic but try googling illustrated stories for children

Mybobowler · 29/12/2020 08:40

No dinosaur on the cover, but could it have been the Doubleday Bedtime Stories? It was the pink iced buns that made me think if it. It was my absolute favourite story book as a child in the 90s.

DasPepe · 29/12/2020 08:49

You said maybe it was a dragon. Could it have been “Dragons at Crumbling castle” by Terry Pratchett? ( it’s hilarious)

This one? We used to be read these at school around that time. Apart from when a supply teacher refused to finish a story because she thought it wasn't suitable for children Hmm

It has to be Terry Jones Fairy Tales. It’s the one before the “fantastic stories” up thread- maybe there was a combined volume.
There’s a story in it called The Beast with a Thousand Teeth all about a boy (the son of pastry chefs) covering all the cakes with pink icing because the beast likes them best.
The whole book is illustrated by Michael foreman and is really beautiful. I remember a different front cover but there have been several over the years. You can still get it and I’d definitely recommend it.
