Please tell me buying ‘special’ cheese is a Christmas thing only!

I usually buy a block of cheddar weekly for use in lasagne, cheese on toast etc.

Christmas is the only time I buy Brie, Camembert, fruity cheese and Boursin.

Since Christmas Eve I’ve eaten these cheeses every day for tea with crackers, on toast and sometimes just a chunk on its own 😆

Fridge is now empty and I’m doing an online food shop. I’m SOOOO tempted to reorder a wheel of Brie and some Boursin but I know it will become a daily habit as I love it so much - my cholesterol and backside will suffer.

Someone tell me to step away from the cheese and that mostly people treat these as special occasion only cheeses ☺️

We do have a large selection at Christmas (we have 19 different types on the fridge at the moment I think). But generally have cheddar, Parmesan and mozzerella as standard normally and then often 2 or 3 more cheeses in the fridge at any one time

Willfiasco · 28/12/2020 20:48

@Stollenandsnow

Well that turned out well!!

😂😂😂

You are really not helping my size 18 bottom guys!!

Low carb. Then you can have as much cheese as you want. We’re a half vegan household- not me- and I bought cheese for the first time since last christmas. Oh my! It’s amazing. Stilton, Cornish Brie and a noveltyNorwegian goat’s like condensed milk in cheese form. I’ve been hovering by the fridge a lot.

We have a specialist cheese shop where we live. I try to limit myself to one weekend a month.

@Willfiasco is that Norwegian cheese ‘brunost’?

RoseAndRose · 28/12/2020 20:50

Same calories in posh cheese as mousetrap.

There's a proper cheesemonger near the ILs and I always treat myself

DressingGownofDoom · 28/12/2020 20:50

Boursin, brie and Parmesan are pretty everyday cheeses surely? I like a bit of Boursin on toast. I also like Brie breaded and deep fried with a leafy salad but you have to change the oil in the deep fat fryer straight after.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 28/12/2020 20:50

Oh yes we always have Parmesan in the fridge too.

Mozzarella only from time to time as I’m not a huge fan.

CherryRoulade · 28/12/2020 20:51

We have regular cheese delivery. We like cheese. We like good cheese. A small luxury in boring times.
Also for supper parties or freefall lunch in more sociable times.

MispyM · 28/12/2020 20:52

Cheese actually doesn't even work that well on mouse traps for some reason. But Idk why.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 28/12/2020 20:53

Mice prefer peanut butter, or any number of foods, to cheese!

Frownette · 28/12/2020 20:53

I think you tend to have a selection in at Xmas whereas you might get a special one in from time to time otherwise.

But go ahead, get the cheese. New year is not yet here.

Audreyseyebrows · 28/12/2020 20:54

Cheese is for life, not just for Christmas.

Cheddar is dull.

MispyM · 28/12/2020 20:56

Holly

Yep. Peanut butter and caramel both work really well..

In other words: let's not waste cheese on mousetraps.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 28/12/2020 20:58

Yes. Any extra cheese can be sent directly to me if anyone needs help managing to finish it!

Wellyouknowbest · 28/12/2020 21:04

Well cheers, off to the kitchen for cheese and crackers. I've already eaten you know!

Hollyhobbi · 28/12/2020 21:11

Only have more variety of cheeses at Christmas. French brie with Cranberries, oakwood smoked and apple wood smoked Cheddar. Philadephia. Camembert, but need to buy some nice bread to go with it after it's baked. Always have Cheddar and mozzarella in the fridge.

Inthemuckheap · 28/12/2020 21:12

Always have lots of cheese in - rarely eat cheddar. Never use cheddar for cooking - always use Emmental or Gruyere. Far nicer and melts better.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 28/12/2020 21:28

I've got about 5 different types of peanut butter in the house as well.
jay55 · 28/12/2020 21:30

I buy Brie regularly for snacking but only buy fancy (unpasteurised expensive) cheddar and Stilton at Christmas.

Cheese is awesome and anything to get through the year.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 28/12/2020 21:31

Mmmmm peanut butter and Nutella on thick sliced white. With a cold glass of milk on the side...

Viviennemary · 28/12/2020 21:31

I sometimes buy nice cheese but not too often as I love it so much. Feel the same about Ferrero rocher. Can only have that at Christmas though some folk think it's the devil's own,

Willfiasco · 28/12/2020 21:32

Yes, it’s delicious. Not low carb though.

iklboo · 28/12/2020 21:32

Oh - forgot to say DH got me a gift voucher for the cheese shop I'll be using later this week to stick up. It does lovely breads, chutneys, jams & charcuterie as well.

jillypill · 28/12/2020 21:33

I love cheese & regularly but different types. However Christmas is pretty much the only time I would eat 5 different types at once.
