How do I stop Alexa reading my filth out loud to kids etc?

I’ve googled, I’ve fiddled. Seemingly there is no way to choose which books to share abs which you’d really rather not.

The first thing DD asked was “Alexa read me a story”. So she did. It was not suitable ☹️

No idea but that's hilarious 😂

tommika · 28/12/2020 16:37

I love this

You might have better luck with “Alexa tell me a bedtime story”

dalrympy · 28/12/2020 16:38

Mine announced the inappropriate package I had arriving from Amazon!
DD saw it had a notification and asked it what it was 😬

Turning it off might be the only way, unless they have parental controls?

nosswith · 28/12/2020 16:40

Turn it off then!

(I am imagining it was programmed by Hale and Pace!)

poppingpotatoes · 28/12/2020 16:44

If you have a family library on Amazon you can choose which books to share.

Disorganisedfish · 28/12/2020 16:45

Oh I had similar! I was reading the self help book “how to unfuck your life” and Ds came running in at bedtime telling me Alexa had swore at him 🙈 Glad 50 shades was a paperback copy now!

NoSquirrels · 28/12/2020 16:46

I don’t think you can. But you can (I think) choose not to link your library to the feature at all or use Family Sharing to mark books unsuitable.

You could get a second kindle account for filth, I guess?

Faircastle · 28/12/2020 16:48

I have no idea, but in the context of the question, I'm now wondering about your username. Does it mean that you ran out of batteries?

slipperywhensparticus · 28/12/2020 16:50

Yes you can choose to have your books only accessed on one device ask alexa how

AldiAisleofCrap · 28/12/2020 16:53

Put the kids Alexa in child mode.

PawPawNoodle · 28/12/2020 16:54

@Handsnotwands I’ve googled, I’ve fiddled I bet you have Grin

I'd say set up Alexa with a parental lock and then ask them for a bedtime story for that child.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 28/12/2020 17:03

I don’t know if this will help. I haven’t tried it as my DCs are adults.

Eminybob · 28/12/2020 17:05

Um, just read to your kids yourself?

AncoraAmarena · 28/12/2020 17:08

@Eminybob

Um, just read to your kids yourself?
Um, how do you know the OP doesn't?

Um, that's not going to help the next time the child asks Alexa, is it?

Um, how is your sentence a question?

Handsnotwands · 28/12/2020 17:10

I swear I’m not a massive perv. I’m really not

And thank you for your suggestions but

A) I can see no way to put her in child mode
B) I’ve tried to use family sharing to choose some books to be shared and others not. Can’t do it. I may need to look on the laptop I think rather than phone
C) I did ask her, she was unhelpful

Um, just read to your kids yourself?
Sadly I’m such a lush who spends so much time fiddling with myself that I simply don’t have time

This is hilarious

I have no idea how to fix it but I'm suddenly grateful I keep my filth on a separate kindle account - not for the kids but I share a day to day reading kindle account with my mother

stovetopespresso · 28/12/2020 17:38

hahahaha

NoSquirrels · 28/12/2020 17:48

I think a separate kindle account for filth is the way to go, OP!

midnightstar66 · 28/12/2020 17:52

Make sure your dd asks for a story from Amazon story time 😆

midnightstar66 · 28/12/2020 17:53

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 28/12/2020 18:12

You can stop it saying what is in packages in the device settings. Not sure about books but that's hilarious.

Eminybob · 28/12/2020 18:40

If she did her kids wouldn’t be asking Alexa to surely.

Sittinginmyoodie · 28/12/2020 18:44

I think you need to do it on tne desktop site. I vaguely remember I had to do that after I bought something 'adult' and it kept bringing all manner of similar stuff on my recommendations on my tablet.
