Anyone on the run from Verbier? Want to post a real-time outlaw story?

I’m not much for shock and horror at rule breakers because... people. But the story of 250+ British tourists on the run from being quarantined in Verbier has rather piqued my interest. www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/27/hundreds-uk-tourists-flee-covid-quarantine-swiss-ski-resort-verbier?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

I’m guessing that the overlap of mumsnet posters and ski tourists is not insignificant: anyone want to tell us how your daring escape is going? And why you thought it was okay to fly to Switzerland for two weeks skiing in the middle of a pandemic?

I live in the French speaking part of Switzerland, it’s a disaster and a disgrace how Covid has been managed this time around.

Swiss medical experts have begged the government to do a more restrictive lockdown, to follow their European counterparts by closing ski resorts, but they have been ignored. Swiss hospitals are already almost at capacity and cannot support hospitalizations resulting from ski related accidents, which usually average 10,000 admissions per ski season.

Well done @Eve. It’s fake news.

People are so quick to believe everything that they read.

The quarantine was retrospective. My son is working in a Swiss ski resort atm (not Verbier). His job only went ahead at the last moment. His company are only taking single parties and the workers are all being Covid tested. There’s no restaurants or bars open. He’s on his third week of guests, all very rich and only the first group British, the rest European. The resort is staying open for the moment but as you would expect bookings are down after this week and the full season is unlikely to go ahead imo.

Yes, this. I wish they had kept it open for residents only. That would have been difficult enough to manage, but possible, I think.

Same. But I also wish we've had had a widespread mask mandate much sooner. And a few other things as well. But here we are. Unfortunately.

Having in the past worked for several years for an UHNWI who had a chalet in Verbier, in my experience you can pay for anything in that place 😳 (no disrespect meant to workers there!)

A previous poster mentioned flying into Sion - this is the norm for private jets for parties to Verbier although when I last booked jets in and out the rules about correct paperwork/procedures etc were pretty strict...I don't know now though.

But it's certainly true to stay that there are a surprising number of people who, although they realise that the rules apply to them, simply don't give a rat's ass!
