@Plussizejumpsuit I think it's just that, in many places, anyone who suggests that perhaps we might do something different than lockdown gets jumped on and called a murderer! It makes people feel a little wary and nuance / tone of voice is of course absent on an internet thread
I think there are alternatives to lockdown, but it's hard for them to be seen as non-radical now because lockdown is so embedded. I think a model of risk assessment and encouraging personal responsibility could work, but I got madly much shouted down when I said that elsewhere. For context, I'm in chemo, so I've been super super cautious and I don't really go anywhere. But my kids go to school, my husband goes to work, and we mitigate the risk by just paying extremely good attention to hygiene precautions (for instance, the kids change clothes when they get in from school, lots of handwashing, we keep our toiletries and stuff separate).
@AcornAutumn please don't feel too bad! I get what you're saying, that any kind of opposition or hope for things to change seems pointless. But there are people out there who are not compliant - I mean, MPs and so on, even our esteemed Chancellor I'm not convinced is on board. And at least there's no crazy curfews and shit. It makes me think that someone is listening, even just a little bit, to the other voices out there.
And no suicide attempts! Conjure up that patronus, we need to to fight the Forces of Darkness.
