We were up to 999 posts so thought we needed a new thread!

I can't work out when it's next being reviewed, I can see it on the news or the Government website, does anyone know?

Wishfulthinking1977 · 30/12/2020 19:01

Late to the party but nosing in as after several weeks of positivity I have slumped! Can't see any way out and just feel like giving up! Will read whole thread to try and perk myself up whilst drowning in wine! 😂 Xx

Curlygirl06 · 30/12/2020 19:01

@TabbyStar

Unfortunately that was our dog's name and she died last year but I did consider variations on it

Ah, sorry about your dog (and reminding you!) Thanks

We're waiting to hear if going up to tier 4, we were mentioned in The Times as possibles.

No problem, you weren't to know. Looks unlikely I'll be getting the tortoise in time for my birthday, my daughter who's organizing it and the place she's getting her from are both in tier 4☹
AcornAutumn · 30/12/2020 19:03

Terrible graphics

But good song

TabbyStar · 30/12/2020 19:07

And in the week up to 24 December, a third of deaths were care home residents - data from www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-daily-deaths/ and www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/datasets/numberofdeathsincarehomesnotifiedtothecarequalitycommissionengland

Not to argue that these deaths don't matter, but a massively untargeted approach isn't likely to help these residents much. Some of these overlap with hospital deaths, but not all.

And I thought your tortoise was a hamster!

As my own small act of rebellion I’ve put a “Fuck Boris” sticker on my car. There is much more I’d like to say but my car is very little.

@AcornAutumn what do you think we should have done instead of lockdown? What are the other options? I'm not asking this in a goady way. My concern now is we all have so much lockdown fatigue that no one is going to stick to it anyway. So I'd be interested in what anti lockdown people think could be an alternative.

Personally I have been seeing my very close family sine May. I have ongoing mental health issues which are managed fairly well with medication. But in all honesty I don't think they would be managed without seeing family. So I 100% understand the challenge of lockdown.

mightbealittlebitmad · 30/12/2020 20:01

Just gone into Tier 4 so that's my gym gone, our swimming cancelled for tomorrow and my son's swimming lessons cancelled yet again. He's actually dealing with it really well, he's only 5 but he just seems to accept it.

I feel a bit numb to it all now, luckily I'm on a mini holiday in what is currently Tier 2. I've had coffee out today and am just enjoying the peace and quiet and change of scenery. I was going to wait until January but with all the doom about schools I had to get out whilst I could and it's done me the world of good.

rosettesforjill · 30/12/2020 20:03

Urgh, fucking tier 4 and primary schools closed round here. We managed to get out to a non-cancelled lights show this evening despite being in MEGA PLAGUE AREA which was lovely. Now trying to work out what I'm going to do with DS and how we're going to use our childcare bubble - are nurseries staying open where primaries are closing, does anybody know?

If you Advance Search me, you'll see.

Sorry, I cba explaining it again. Infection control and population control are not the same thing.

Frankly, the world is full of alternative suggestions to lockdown. I'm surprised, at this point, that anyone needs to ask.

Vintagelovingmum · 30/12/2020 20:11

Gone from tier 2-4 in the process of 5 days! Not sure how they could have seen that much of an effect of tier 3 since we've only been in it since 26th December.
We were planning on visiting the in laws today, they're 5hrs drive away and I'd be using them as our support bubble as dd2 is under 1, to stay for a couple of days as I got a new job and need to do some online learning (dh is shocking at keeping the children busy whilst I focus on things) but after all the leaking and hinting yesterday we agreed it was best to wait and see.
We're one of the rural areas with low cases and deaths but have been sodded up because we've been grouped as the whole county. Although I did wonder at the start of all this if this will turn into a lockdown by stealth

Plussizejumpsuit · 30/12/2020 20:14

What a passive aggressive answer to a perfectly reasonable question. @AcornAutumn
How lovely you sound. Fair enough say to advance search but is there any need to be so rude about me not knowing what your alternatives are?

I'll not be back on this thread so you all can share your advance knowledge of the vast array of other solutions I'm obviously too thick to be aware of. Way to make friends and influence people, cheers.

I'm not here to make friends and influence people, it's MN, not a networking party.

I'd like to not make another suicide attempt. I shouldn't have answered you at all really. It didn't help either of us. My bad, I'm going to settle down with a nice film now.

Vintage "Gone from tier 2-4 in the process of 5 days! Not sure how they could have seen that much of an effect of tier 3 since we've only been in it since 26th December."

That's what they did to London. The panto had a big opening with royalty, then two days later they were told to close. Then I think 4 days later was Tier 4.

I just think of it all as lockdown.

Seriouslymole · 30/12/2020 20:22

@AcornAutumn Flowers I didn’t actually think it was a bad reply. So many alternatives to lockdown. Anyhooooo - please get someone to talk to IRL but keep posting here.

TabbyStar · 30/12/2020 20:25

Plussize It did feel a bit as if you jumped in demanding answers from people on what's a fairly friendly and eclectic thread. I gave some suggestions, but we're not here to answer your questions, many people here are feeling quite upset today for various reasons.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 30/12/2020 20:27

@Plussizejumpsuit I don't know all of the answers either as I actively avoided mumsnet until September/October and I have also thought advanced searching people was something rude (I have often seen it used to shut people down). Please don't feel that you aren't welcome or wanted on these threads, I and I should imagine lots of others, want people to feel safe and able to post here.

AcornAutumn · 30/12/2020 20:31

I didn't think it was bad either! I even wrote "sorry" in it!

I am genuinely horrified though, that 9 months into this people see lockdown as the only option and some aren't even aware of alternatives.

I don't do MSM much so perhaps that's where they get their ideas?

Jourdain11 · 30/12/2020 20:31

@Plussizejumpsuit I think it's just that, in many places, anyone who suggests that perhaps we might do something different than lockdown gets jumped on and called a murderer! It makes people feel a little wary and nuance / tone of voice is of course absent on an internet thread Wink

I think there are alternatives to lockdown, but it's hard for them to be seen as non-radical now because lockdown is so embedded. I think a model of risk assessment and encouraging personal responsibility could work, but I got madly much shouted down when I said that elsewhere. For context, I'm in chemo, so I've been super super cautious and I don't really go anywhere. But my kids go to school, my husband goes to work, and we mitigate the risk by just paying extremely good attention to hygiene precautions (for instance, the kids change clothes when they get in from school, lots of handwashing, we keep our toiletries and stuff separate).

@AcornAutumn please don't feel too bad! I get what you're saying, that any kind of opposition or hope for things to change seems pointless. But there are people out there who are not compliant - I mean, MPs and so on, even our esteemed Chancellor I'm not convinced is on board. And at least there's no crazy curfews and shit. It makes me think that someone is listening, even just a little bit, to the other voices out there.

And no suicide attempts! Conjure up that patronus, we need to to fight the Forces of Darkness. Flowers

Thank you

There was a D on late last night too. I shouldn't have responded to either.

@AcornAutumn, Flowers. Also, I am still holding out hope for an AD festival in a field someday and you need to be around because it will be incomplete otherwise. Smile
