Found 2 rump steaks at bottom of fridge that I had forgotten about and use by 24 Dec, they should be ok to cook up tonight do you think?

I would smell them and if they're ok go for it.

Sunny371 · 27/12/2020 11:43

Yeh they'll be fine. Give them a sniff first though.

WorraLiberty · 27/12/2020 11:45

Yep, sniff them like a Bloodhound.

Meat has an amazing way of letting you know it's off, no matter what the date on the packaging says.

Definitely would, it’ll be absolutely fine.

Elouera · 27/12/2020 11:47

They have just be aged a little longer!
As other said, open the packet and sniff them. If they smell off or have a slippery/slime over them, bin. If they smell fine, I'd ensure they were piping hot before eating.

Yup!
Ultimateblends · 27/12/2020 11:52

Fine. Enjoy!

Floralnomad · 27/12/2020 11:54

If they look and smell ok I would .

WunWun · 27/12/2020 11:54

Yes, definitely

AldiAisleofCrap · 27/12/2020 11:55

No because it’s the 27th.

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/12/2020 11:57

Yes, good beef is hung for ages before it gets to you.
Not if it stinks though.

Jinglingandnotmingling · 27/12/2020 11:58

Yes, it’ll be fine.

AlCalavicci · 27/12/2020 11:59

I agree with PP sniff , and look but unless it's been out of the fridge at some point for a few hrs it should be fine

WorraLiberty · 27/12/2020 12:03

@AldiAisleofCrap

No because it’s the 27th.
So by that reckoning, if it said January 2nd on the packaging but smelled off, you'd still eat it because of the number?
caringcarer · 27/12/2020 12:10

Smell is key. If smell ok you could risk it, if smell dodgy bin them.

caringcarer · 27/12/2020 12:11

I have my fridge turned down to 1 degree to make sure turkey did not go off.

Redfox · 27/12/2020 12:13

Yes I thought they would be ok and sage advice all round, but I will give them a good sniff.

I'm sure they will be just fine. If they are vaccum packed, take them out the plastic as soon as you can though.

PeachesBright · 27/12/2020 14:45

Absolutely not!

Best before dates.. sniff test applies.
Use by dates.. they're three days beyond the use by date.. grim! Bin them unless you want to make yourself ill.

safariboot · 27/12/2020 14:47

If beef looks and smells fine it will be fine.

minniemoll · 27/12/2020 14:56

I'd totally eat the unless they smelled terrible (unlikely!)

But surely beef is aged to make it taste better. As long as it looks and smells ok, it'll be fine.
ListeningQuietly · 27/12/2020 15:18

Good steak will already be two weeks old before it is cut and packaged.
An extra day will not harm it.

QuestionableMouse · 27/12/2020 15:19

Nope.

Also the sniff test is useless because you can't always smell the bacteria that may make you ill.
