I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

I read it as that too @SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat

@MissConductUS, those are such beautiful words. Thank you. I hope that these threads continue for a long while for all the reasons you have mentioned. There is beauty in the mundane, and it becomes something bigger.

Now I'm off to bed before I get too melancholy. Enjoy your new year celebrations those of you still in 2020.

Champagneforeveryone · 01/01/2021 02:56

sniff
That was beautiful missconduct

Happy 2021 to you all. It is 0255hrs here and I am eating Thai red curry - DH would be scandalised Grin

It's busy at work and there seems to be an awful lot of people to whom the lockdown rules do not apply Hmm

It's also -4 outside so my nighttime stroll will be a brisk trot today.

Frownette · 01/01/2021 03:18

You're at work?! The curry sounds nice.

I can't sleep, probably too many cups of tea. It's very chilly.

Silkiechickscat · 01/01/2021 03:27

I'm just having a cup of tea.

Happy 2021 to those of you yet to join us and happy 1926 to MissC

Frownette · 01/01/2021 03:32

@Silkiechickscat you've made me want another.

The fox has started again, it doesn't half make an odd noise, right outside my bedroom window.

@MissConductUS don't visit 2021, stay put!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 01/01/2021 04:08

Happy New Year to all my new UK and European friends on this thread from the eastern seaboard. studiously ignores fact that Toronto is inland

@MissConductUS those were beautiful words and even though I have only been here a short time, I can see and feel how special these threads are. Does anyone remember Zombie? She was a wonderful MNer who sadly passed away a few years ago. This thread reminds me of her. There was never any derailing a Zombie thread and she was always so warm and welcoming.

Only 53 more minutes in 2020 here until we can say Good Riddance! I have a lot more Prosecco to drink so I better get a move on.

kittlesticks · 01/01/2021 07:19

Happy new year! @Frownette we also have a visiting fox. Also, amazingly, a tawny owl who talks to us every night - the male call by itself so I think he's lonely.
I kid you not, he's woken up DD with his calling before.
Lovely words @MissConductUS I agree.
I credit mumsnet with many things but to tell you all a brief story, I had several years of fertility problems and lost 3 pregnancies before I was able to have my 2, and I joined a mumsnet forum on pregnancy loss to get some support.
The ladies in there were amazing. There were about 40 of us and after a long time chatting we actually met in real life. We have since met up a few times. Very special women, who I'm still in touch with now... and over 80 kids between us...which is madness - yes we all went on to have DCs in the end.
One of them had twins at 46... Shock
Anyway wishing everyone a good 2021, hopefully by the time the days start to get warmer here we will have a bit more hope.

Frownette · 01/01/2021 07:23

@kittlesticks the tawny owl sounds cuter. That's lovely to hear about the support group you formed.

Don't forget @MissConductUS welcomed in 1926!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/01/2021 08:37

Good morning, we got up at an extremely late 9:30 am, DH finished his accounts in the night!!!!! Happy little dance around the table!

Nydj · 01/01/2021 09:02

Good morning and Avery Happy New Year to you all!

@kittlesticks, I remember Zombie - I wasn’t a participant on her threads but she did always come across as a very warm and caring person. She was originally from North America too wasn’t she? Or am I misremembering?

Wise and wonderful words from @MissConductUS as always - thank you. Just to add, for me, December 2020 was always going to be a particularly tricky month for me without the added problem of Covid and I want to say a big, heartfelt thank you to everyone who has kept these threads going as they have been a soothing balm at a difficult time for me. You are all absolutely lovely.

Spudlet · 01/01/2021 09:12

Happy New Year my lovelies! I love sharing the minutiae of my life with you all and sharing yours in return. It’s like going to a lovely coffee morning every day Smile

I fear today may be somewhat interesting here as DH has just been to the garage for a dust sheet and announced that he would like a haircut. There may be a certain amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth, because I am still definitely more comfortable with clipping spaniels than I am people 😬 DS could also do with a trim... oh me oh my. In the words of my Irish great Aunty I shall update you later... if I’m spared 😂

Mintjulia · 01/01/2021 09:12

Happy New Year all. Here's to a better year Brew

What are people doing today? I'm making soup, going for a run, maybe cycling with ds.

Must fill in my GardenBirdwatch form too. We have bull finches that look like they've been coloured in with a highlighter pen Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/01/2021 09:21

@Nydj
Zombie was the reason I joined MN.

Spudlet · 01/01/2021 09:23

@Nydj I didn’t know Zombie, but I happened onto a memorial thread about her. She sounded so lovely, and so loved.

One of the things I didn’t manage to do last year was to start making Woolly Hugs squares, but this year... 💪

toomuchlikemyusername · 01/01/2021 09:26

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone.
I'd like to join this thread as I'm all for a bit of celebrating the mundane.

At the moment I'm happy to be lying in bed after a very quiet New Years Eve, where DP and I chatted about all kinds of mundane stuff like tidying out the garage and making lemon meringue pie.
Quite when either will be done is another matter but it was a lovely, low key, meandering conversation which went on for hours.
I look forward to reading over the full thread later.

Frownette · 01/01/2021 09:29

I vaguely remember zombie but not sure if I interacted with her or not. She obviously had a huge impact.

Today: found a shop 15 minutes walk away which is open (because I forgot to do food shopping yesterday Blush) by giving them a quick call, the lady said they were open eight to ten so I was about to scramble madly for my trainers when I realised she meant ten in the evening!

Squirrel26 · 01/01/2021 09:40

Oh I think I lost you all for a bit. I am back now though! Hope everyone has had a calm and uneventful New Year's Eve.

I have been out and tidied up the horse poo from three fields, and watched my horse being an idiot when the hay came out. I was going to ride, but my friend can't make it and the horse is FILTHY. I have left that to be tomorrow's problem and come home and had coffee and mini Snickers for breakfast.

Frownette · 01/01/2021 09:46

Breakfast of kings. It was peaceful thanks, and yours?

Spudlet · 01/01/2021 09:51

Oh god, DH has the bit between his teeth. He is fetching the clippers. Argh

Mini-Snickers for breakfast sounds just right, Squirrel 😋

I am listening to an album on my phone of remixed bird calls. Ddog is quite deaf so clearly can’t work out where it is coming from, so keeps looking at DH as though he is the one responsible for these confusing birdy sounds Grin

soddingkitten · 01/01/2021 10:06

Spudlet I’ve been cutting DH’s hair since March with clippers. It got easier when he opted for the same grade all over. DS2 is still asking me to cut his hair, but insists on the top being left longer. His hair is very thick and curly. It takes 3x as long as DH's with more uncertain outcomes. DS1 has returned to the barber, but may ask for a trim if tier 4 persists into February.

I stayed up until 1am with my boys seeing in the new year. DH was knackered, so turned in after 11. We had a lovely time chatting. Sodding seemed confused to be put to bed by DS1, as the normal order of things is me doing it. I’ve not long woken up. 😄 Slow day here. It’s not as if there’s anything to do or see.

EggNogPegg · 01/01/2021 10:24

Good morning lovelies.

@MissConductUS, stay in 1926. It looks like more fun than the 20's of today.

Good luck @Spudlet! I attempted to clipper DS1s hair in lockdown one. I made such a hash of it that I was barred from the clippers. This suits me fine. Tell me more about these Woolly Hugs squares because I'm clearly not busy enough already

Welcome back @Squirrel26! And welcome to @Mintjulia and @toomuchlikemyusername.

@Frownette, your post about the shop opening times made me chuckle.

Spudlet · 01/01/2021 10:31

We live! DH wanted a number 3 all over, which is much easier and DS refused point blank to consider it, so my barbering duties are done. DH has also been hoovered to remove the loose hair, hopefully I won’t have given him a hickey Grin

@EggNogPegg They’re on Facebook as Woolly Hugs or I think there’s a thread here somewhere too. Basically you knit or crochet squares and then post them off to be sewn up into blankets. There are a few different projects to pick, they all have their own colour schemes. Some go to Chernobyl children, some are for women being treated for cancer, I think some are for refugees? I made one last year but then ran out of steam what with one thing and another Blush This year though, I am going to make some more!

soddingkitten · 01/01/2021 10:58

I’m about to make custard to go with my homemade panettone bread & butter pudding for breakfast.

Squirrel26 · 01/01/2021 11:15

I watched Paddington and celebrity Crystal Maze last night, then did my COVID test for work and went to bed at 10. Grin

My mum told me she is going to make panettone bread and butter pudding too, @soddingkitten. Apparently it is very tough having to eat panettone for tea at 4 and then fit in dinner at 6. (I mean, she literally does not need to do this; she is allowed to follow whatever eating schedule she likes. Also, it's the SAME AMOUNT OF FOOD.)

HelenaJustina · 01/01/2021 11:17

@soddingkitten I have a panettone which was only opened this morning and I have custard. I feel a bread and butter pudding is now imminent! Though we’ve all had breakfast so it will have to be for dinner.

The 5 course dinner went so well last night, it may well be the start of a new family tradition. DC went to bed about 10 and DH and I made it to midnight (just) as the clementine martinis were starting to take their toll by that point! Not too much clearing up to do this morning - but we need to drag the DH out for some fresh air at some point.
