Just that really.

Never. Very occasionally have will brought a tv up if someone is sick but generally no tvs upstairs. Don't see the need for them in bed tbh. They were always allowed come downstairs to watch early morning cartoons at weekends and holidays. Neighbours kids wake up during the night and are allowed watch tv to fall back to sleep !!! Madness imo

lovelemoncurd · 26/12/2020 21:50

They don't! I prefer family time.

AlwaysLatte · 26/12/2020 21:54

I've been in almost all of my friends bedrooms and most of ybeir children,
That's odd in itself! I don't go in my friends' or their children's bedrooms, I can't see how that would come about.
'Oh, I think I'll pop up to have a look at your bedroom'

Never.

Preparedtobetoldimwrong · 26/12/2020 21:58

Clearly I’m a bad parent as my 12 year old had a tv in his bedroom two years ago. It’s now in the box room, which we have turned into a game room. We have tv in the bedroom as well - I didn’t realise it was such an odd thing to do.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 26/12/2020 22:00

When they are old enough to buy one and take it there themselves.

MispyM · 26/12/2020 22:01

It does seem a but odd to me if I'm being honest. But I also wouldn't want to spend more time than necessary in our bedroom (well, at least not in winter. I don't minde otherwise), which probably influences my point of view.

😂😂 how splendid of you.

It's not TV or family time - there are many hours in a day, and if your DCs never entertain themselves and every minute of the day is occupied by "family time" I feel very sorry for you. You must be exhausted.

Nobody was asking you to choose.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2020 22:06

I lie in bed and watch the news before I get out of bed, and keep it on while getting dressed/doing make up and getting ready for work.

In the evening if DH is watching footy or a film I don't want to I will go up to bed with a cuppa and watch something I want to up there.

Sounds awful I guess. Confused

QueenieButcher · 26/12/2020 22:08

I cannot imagine a day when mine would ask for a TV. They watch anything they want to on their iPads. The only person who watches an actual telly in this house is DH.

Preparedtobetoldimwrong · 26/12/2020 22:10

@Sparklingbrook
Sounds pretty perfect to me - exactly the same as us, only with my DH it’s car or boat programmes! We do watch things together or as a family but everyone can have their own space as well.

Whyisitsodifficult · 26/12/2020 22:12

@gingajewel

It was my four year old dd’s main present for Christmas this year!
Four! Why?🤔

Exactly. It's nice to have a little space, we watch stuff together but I am quite happy snuggled up in bed watching TV rather than watching football or whatever. Grin

No tv’s in bedrooms here but we do have a second living/playroom and there’s a tv and games console in there which the kids do use a lot.

Twobrews · 26/12/2020 22:20

I don't think it is most of our friends and family think we are odd for not having a TV in the bedroom!
In late our teens/early twenties DH and I lived out of a bedroom for a couple of years while we renovated our first house. We longed for a proper living room so when we finally got one we vowed we'd never watch TV in a bedroom again. Over twenty years later we never have!

DominaShantotto · 26/12/2020 22:26

I like watching TV in bed - so we've always had a small cheap telly in our bedroom. The kids got theirs when we re-did the room when it was obvious lockdown was looming.

Honestly for two bright kids - neither of them has ever thought to try to watch TV instead of sleeping on a night - they're regularly busted reading books waaaay past bedtime though! On a weekend morning - I really don't care if they want to watch a bit of cartoons in bed before waking us up to go downstairs. Also have a TV in the conservatory where my desk and PC is as I quite often put the news on in the background when I'm working (or I used to before 2020 got quite so fucking depressing).

I don't want tablets and phones in the bedroom yet because I think they need that separation line with social media and the eldest is the sort who would be trying to skype her friends in the middle of the night.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 26/12/2020 22:29

DS is 7 and doesn’t have one in his room. We don’t have one in ours either.
We have a spare room come office which has a sofa bed in it. We plan to put a tv in there so DS can watch tv or play on games console with his friends when he’s older

Ginfordinner · 26/12/2020 22:43

So do we. We turned one of the spare bedrooms into an upstairs sitting room/office. I use the TV tuned into the radio when I am working from home.
inappropriateraspberry · 26/12/2020 22:52

Never or until they're adults still living at home 😬 and can afford to buy one themselves.
We have one in our room and two others in the lounges. That's more than enough, plus a tablet.
I never had one in my room growing up, don't think I missed out.

BriocheBuns · 26/12/2020 23:13

Why is everyone so against a tv for kids in their room? If there is a variation of ages then it’s difficult to agree to watch the same things. What’s so wrong with a child watching a movie in their bedroom while adults watch the news in the main room x

LittleStepsDaily · 26/12/2020 23:19

None in bedrooms here either. We have one in the sitting room and one at the far end of the kitchen for gaming - which will always be in a general area because of all the crap that can, and does happen on online gaming. The kids do all have access to tablets, the laptop etc and can use those in their bedrooms during the day but they are all put in our bedroom at night. At the weekend they come in and get them which means I have an idea of what time theyve woken and theyre not going on them at ridiculous times of the morning. Yes I do have a teenager and he understands it has all been done for his own good and not as a punishment!

rainbowscalling · 26/12/2020 23:27

We don't have TVs in the bedrooms. Granted DD is young still (4) but she has a kids kindle with Netflix and Disney on. Is she wants to watch something in her room (rare) she will lay on the bed with that but it doesn't stay in her room after dinner until the morning.

I had a tv in my room at my parents but I feel like there is such less need now with portable screens. Plus I would never put one in our bedroom so unlikely I would put one in hers.

BackforGood · 26/12/2020 23:27

TV ?

Everyone just uses tablets/laptops/desktops surely!?

I don't think people really 'watch TV' any more.

I'm watching TV, whilst using my laptop to MN
I usually check my e-mails when watching TV too.

Don't you think anybody watches anything together with other people anymore? A film? Some of the big TV 'finals'? Sport ? Do you seriously think everyone huddles round a laptop ?

What is it with so many generalisations on this thread, and so many people who are unable to perceive that there might be people different from themselves Confused

Yubaba · 26/12/2020 23:35

Ds1 (12) has a tv in his room but it’s not connected to the aerial, he has a fire stick though.
I could probably count on one hand the number of times he’s turned the thing on. We were accidentally sent the tv instead of a computer monitor and the company told us to keep it which is why he has one.
The only other tv is in the living room, the kids aren’t big tv watchers though.
