Just that really.

@dingledongle

Mine are 13 and 16, no TV's in their rooms.

We tend to watch films together or agree on programs.

Both kids have smart phones and watch video's on these but do not use them in their rooms.

We have a spare TV in our room
which is never used. I have asked both kids if they want it in their room both said no 🤷‍♀️

This arrangement works for us Wink

Christ. The smug wink and the subtle "my perfect children would never want a tv in their room, they're far too busy brushing up on Dickens and polishing their silverware". Xmas Envy not envy no matter how hard you're begging for it
jackstini · 26/12/2020 21:31

Never. Mine are 12 & 14
Occasional iPad & laptop use for watching stuff but no screens in there overnight

Cookerhood · 26/12/2020 21:31

We've never had TV's in any bedroom & I don't know anyone who does. BUT, that all went to pot when they needed laptops for school as they watch stuff on there. None of them have ever suggested a TV for their rooms and I don't think their friends had them when they were at school.

lionobserving · 26/12/2020 21:35

@Redwinestillfine

Err they don't? I don't know anyone who has a TV in the bedroom adult or child...
ANYONE 😂😂 Mumsnet is so hilarious sometimes. You don't know a single person with a tv in their bedroom? The things people come out with on here Grin
Ginfordinner · 26/12/2020 21:36

DD never had one.

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 26/12/2020 21:36

Never, ever.

Ginfordinner · 26/12/2020 21:36

She watches stuff on her laptop.

nevergoingoutagain · 26/12/2020 21:38

Mine don't (oldest 12 and 14) but can use laptops for Netflix and crunchy roll

SeaglassSolstice · 26/12/2020 21:39

Never. We don't have one in our bedroom either. I don't see the need.

To the pp saying we're all lying, well I don't know anyone amongst our friends who have a TV in any bedroom (adults or children). Maybe they're all lying too Hmm

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/12/2020 21:39

TV ?

Everyone just uses tablets/laptops/desktops surely!?

I don't think people really 'watch TV' any more.

SeaglassSolstice · 26/12/2020 21:41

lionobserving why is that so funny? I've been in almost all of my friends bedrooms and most of ybeir children, and none of them have TVs apart from in the living room, why is that so funny?

SaltyAF · 26/12/2020 21:41

Mine don't have them but I've no objection to them streaming TV in their rooms suing their laptops (it would be preferable to the YouTube shite they watch). They are 8 and 10. I've never had time for smug, holier than thou parenting.

Pickledpenguin · 26/12/2020 21:41

We watch tv - we have four in the house. 2 of them smart tvs. We do not use tablets, the pc is for work/laptop for homework and damned if I am squinting at a phone trying to watch something.

megletthesecond · 26/12/2020 21:41

14yo DS is allowed his at weekends to play fortnite. It's locked away the rest of the week.

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2020 21:41

My two have had a tv in their room for years. They are 18 and 21 now and use them for gaming, although DS2 has a monitor and a tv. DS1 lives away and has a tv in his bedroom there too.Shock Most of their friends growing up had TVs in their rooms too.

But most watching of anything is done on their Ipads anyway so I can see the TVs becoming a bit obsolete.

DH and I have a huge TV in our bedroom.

Monicuddle · 26/12/2020 21:41

I got one at 24. I will get my kids one for their bedrooms at the same age. As long as they have moved out.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 26/12/2020 21:43

TV, laptop, tablet, smart phone all the same thing really, looking at screens (excluding homework reasons obviously) but I would say around 8/9.

My DD is only 3 and wont have one in her room for a while yet. I know my younger sibling (14) requested their TV be removed as they never watch it and would rather have had a make up desk and extra storage.

AlwaysLatte · 26/12/2020 21:45

They do have them since last year (so 11 and 9) which they play games on but can't access any TV like Disney plus/Netflix etc without their xboxes as they're too far from the router for the TVs to work on their own for some reason and the controllers are kept downstairs in the evenings. But they often bring their xboxes down to play them in the sitting room or snug so they don't get a huge amount of use. We originally put them up there when we had my mum to stay when she was convalescing, and it was quieter with them up there.

Titsywoo · 26/12/2020 21:45

My kids don't really watch tv they just seem to watch youtube on their phones or laptops/PCs. Maybe Netflix sometimes. Dd has a tv in her room but it rarely gets used. She got it when she was 13 I think.

JingleCatJingle · 26/12/2020 21:46

We don’t and we’re real people. I promise with real teens.

Twobrews · 26/12/2020 21:46

DD 21 got a TV in her room when she was 13, it only played DVD's for two years though.
DS1 16 has never had a TV in his he isn't interested, he watches The Crown and The apprentice. He's had a PC in his room for about a year now.
DS2 and DS3 10 and 9, no screens in rooms but do have a TV in the playroom since we moved a couple of years ago they have access to Netflix, Prime and Disney+. They don't watch anything on their kindles.

Why would I want a TV in my bedroom when I can watch Prime on my phone?
I can't see the appeal of a TV in my bedroom but I really can't see the appeal of watching anything on my phone.

PaperMonster · 26/12/2020 21:47

My daughter’s 9 and doesn’t have one - I was actually really surprised when she went for a sleepover when she was in reception and her friend had one in her room. We have the one TV. I’ve not had a TV in my bedroom for years now.

daisypond · 26/12/2020 21:47

Most younger people I know don’t have TVs at all. Neither of my daughters, in their 20s, have one. Not because they are sat reading Dickens. They would watch TV on a laptop. I do have a TV, but I’ve only got one. I think my elderly parents have two - one in a bedroom. They’re the only ones I know who have two.

Ginfordinner · 26/12/2020 21:47

We do, for the same reasons as @Pickledpenguin does. Apart from squinting at a small screen, the sound quality on our TV is so much better than that on a laptop. And if all of us are watching at the same time it is much easier to watch a full size TV than a laptop.

Morgan12 · 26/12/2020 21:47

My 8 year old has a better TV than me! He uses it for gaming.
