Just that really.

I remember the class teacher in y2 having a word with a parent as her son was falling asleep in class as he was tired from watching his tv late in to the evening.

doctorhamster · 26/12/2020 20:49

Mine won't ever have them in their bedrooms. A lot of their friends do though (they're 10 and 12)

Superstardjs · 26/12/2020 20:53

My 15yo doesn't and won't be either. I don't have one in mine.

PencilFace · 26/12/2020 20:53

10 and 11 and they only just got them. They use them for gaming and netflix/amazon prime which they are allowed a set amount of time on. I don't see the problem with it.

Tiredmum100 · 26/12/2020 20:56

My dc are 7 and 9, they dont have tvs in their rooms and not planning on having them anytime soon. Dc say their friends have tvs in their rooms though. My dc like to be with me and dh all the time, so don't go up to their rooms on their own ever, unless they're going to bed so no point really!

Pickledpenguin · 26/12/2020 20:57

My 11 year old and all of his peer group have tv's in their rooms. I would say ds has one about 4 years in there. He plays xbox and switch with his friends so far easier to keep it connected. We still have more than adequate time together and play games or watch movies together but I don't want to be hearing roaring and shouting from fortnite while I am downstairs reading or watching tv myself.

Echobelly · 26/12/2020 21:03

Do kids need TVs these days? I'd assume they'd watch on tablet/laptop?

AldiAisleofCrap · 26/12/2020 21:09

@EagleFlight Surely they just have tablets these days? not in bedrooms surely?

AriesTheRam · 26/12/2020 21:10

Ds had one from around 5

AldiAisleofCrap · 26/12/2020 21:10

Our kids don’t have tv’s in bedrooms or , tablets etc.

rockinaftermidnite · 26/12/2020 21:11

Never. I personally don't think TVs belong in bedrooms.

MeMarmiteYouJam · 26/12/2020 21:12

I would love to be able to say "never" but they have laptops and iPads and access to Netflix, Disney+, Prime, YouTube etc etc.

Scarby9 · 26/12/2020 21:13

When they leave home and buy their own.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/12/2020 21:14

Mine don't, eldest is 14. They have tablets and phones to watch things on. They aren't gamers and no room for TVs (although they wouldn't work without aerials being installed here anyway).

Redwinestillfine · 26/12/2020 21:17

Err they don't? I don't know anyone who has a TV in the bedroom adult or child...

All these people saying they don't have TVs in bedrooms is bollocks. Most kids these days like to play games and need a tv. I'd say 95% of my children's friends have TVs in bedrooms. I have one in mine and love watching films in bed or watching a film on a weekend morning with the kids.

Must be another fake Mumsnet thing 🙄.

I have a tv in my room but don't lie in bed watching it. Kids don't have TVs or consoles. Maybe 95% of your friends aren't representative of the population Hmm
Snally82 · 26/12/2020 21:23

Probably never, only watches TV in any room if we put it on. Not really something a lot of kids are bothered about these days (unless for gaming)

Bouledeneige · 26/12/2020 21:25

Never.

zigaziga · 26/12/2020 21:26

I’d be surprised if this was still really a “thing”.

Because of tablets and Netflix and prime on iPhones and all of it we only have one TV as a family (admittedly my children are young) and I cannot imagine wanting more than that.
Growing up, however, we had one “main” TV and a couple of old, small ones in other rooms (my parents room and in the snug) and I also got my own TV in my room from about 12.
I feel like surely the average amount of TVs a family owns is decreasing?
Why would I want a TV in my bedroom when I can watch Prime on my phone?

LightDrizzle · 26/12/2020 21:28

13 yrs in our case, it was before Smart TVs.

TVs in bedrooms is just a thing I’ve read about on Mumsnet - “another fake Mumsnet thing”. I don’t know a single child with a TV in their bedroom.
MillieEpple · 26/12/2020 21:29

I do find the angst about a tv but total comfort with a phone, laptop or ipad connected to the whole web quite amusing.

CatFaceCats · 26/12/2020 21:29

8 and 9.
They have Netflix/Prime on them.
My son has his PS4 and my daughter has her switch.
They also have iPads!
I just didn’t want them always monopolising the living room TV on rainy weekends.
I generally take their remotes away when I tuck them in at night so they can’t watch them. But tbh, they don’t use them all that much throughout the day. Although with crap weather/lockdown, they definitely have been used more!

DominaShantotto · 26/12/2020 21:29

Mine do (age 7 and 8) and a Sky box in there (easiest way to get a decent picture where the furniture is in there. They watch it on a weekend morning for a while while they're playing, occasionally the eldest will go up there for some space from their sister for a bit. We got it at the start of lockdown so that there was somewhere else to go for space if one or the other needed it as they share a room.

I won't allow iPads etc upstairs as they're still learning their way around socially navigating the internet - I'd rather have just something producing a TV signal up there. It's never even occurred to them to try to watch it at bedtimes or anything to be honest!
