Plans for NYE?

I love NYE, I'm definitely not one of those "go to bed before midnight and forget about it" types. Obviously this year we can't go out or have people over (tier 4) but I'd really love to say a massive ODFOD to 2020 on NYE. What are your at home plans?

@VioletCharlotte

I feel like a massive kill joy saying this, but I really, really wish people wouldn't let off fireworks on NYE. It's so stressful for animals. I spend the whole evening trying to calm my dog down.
You're not a killjoy for raising it as an issue, but what's the point of mentioning it out of the blue on this thread when nobody has even mentioned them? Do you just like looking for arguments?
INeedADayOff · 26/12/2020 20:32

Absolutely nothing..!! In tier 3 possibly moving up to tier 4 🤷‍♀️

Might get some nice party food from M&S and have a gin but that’s about it really. Will do some board games with the kids and maybe build some lego

Can’t invite anyone over and can’t see anyone 🤷‍♀️

Place marking as very curious to find out what an online sexy party entails

Same as usual ... we don't got out anyway, don't like the crowds - struggling to get on the tube after the fireworks.

So we'll be having a nice dinner, lots of champagne and then more snacks and champage before and around midnight. Only we can't watch the London fireworks on tv this year cos they've been cancelled (but then I only watch them because my taxes pay for them!!) be interesting to see what the alternatives are!

AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven · 26/12/2020 20:41

My lovely DM is looking after the DC for a few hours so that DH and I can go for a beach walk and have some posh fish and chips (if the Tiers haven't changed and the restaurant remains open). The it will probably be a latish night with the kids and some crap telly.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/12/2020 20:53

We’re going to get the M&S Indian box and other bits to go with it. I will probably be in pjs. Always spend actual midnight soothing the cat while the fireworks go off, but am hoping there won’t be do many this year as we’re in Scotland which is all tier four now.

VioletCharlotte · 26/12/2020 20:54

@LindaEllen
Not looking to start an argument at all. I made the comment because someone commented two posts above mine that they expected there to be loads of fireworks where they live.

Not sure what the point of your comment is tbh? Animals suffer because of fireworks which means they and their owners have a miserable NYE.

diamondpony80 · 26/12/2020 20:59

I’d like to stay up until midnight but honestly if we’re at home in the house eating, drinking, watching TV etc (not much else to do really) I have a feeling I’ll end up falling asleep before it. I’m normally in bed by about 11 and eating too much sugar on celebratory days makes me more tired than normal.

Monr0e · 26/12/2020 21:05

Doing an at home escape room.

I may look into the Taskmaster board game also Smile

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2020 21:07

We've rented a cottage for a big get together with the friends and family we've not seen all year. Oh no, wait...

Jools Holland and a bottle of wine I imagine.

TeenageMutantNinjaCovid · 26/12/2020 21:08

is that a polite way to say bondage?
EagleFlight · 26/12/2020 21:09

I’m in Tier 4 and pretty sure I will be going party hopping despite the restrictions. Luckily I’ll be being paid for it and in full PPE.

Catlover77 · 26/12/2020 21:09

@Howcanwehelp

I've got tickets for a online live performance from the people who do the something wrong plays. It's improv. With audience participation. I'm really missing live theatre and looking forward to it.
Thanks for the info. Mischief Theatre are fab and we have just booked a ticket. Can’t wait

Thanks again

2pinkginsplease · 26/12/2020 21:12

I’ve worked in hospitality for the last 19 New Years and this year Ive changed jobs and was so looking forward to going out to celebrate, but it’s hit to be.

We plan to have an evening in the house dh, ds , dd and I . Both our children are teenagers so shouldn’t be a good night , we will have a few drinks, snacks, play games and celebrate the end of 2020 x

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2020 21:13

Smile at EagleFlight

If this weather carries on, I'll be responding to flooding either locally, or as relief elsewhere in the country.

I'm guessing online sexy party might be something like this by Killing Kittens?

Staffy1 · 26/12/2020 21:17

Sadly I will probably be reading outraged curtain-twitcher threads on MN.

zigaziga · 26/12/2020 21:19

I think we'll make a 2020 out if papier mache and burn it on the bonfire, then hot dogs and games

One year I did NYE on the beach (tbh I’m normally an asleep by 10pm person) and we wrote down wishes for the future and burnt them. It felt very satisfying.

I like that idea this year too.

I’m not sure I could bring myself to burn 2020 but then I guess I think of all the babies born or conceived this year and the big (positive) life changes some people have made and it feels wrong to burn a whole year. I’d like to go into 2021 with some hope though and I think I will be in a reflective mood come NYE.

Sorka · 26/12/2020 21:19

Probably watching TV on my own. I might get a takeaway. Fun times Sad

ShinyGreenElephant · 26/12/2020 21:35

I'm going to do a party for the kids, balloons and streamers and all kinds of activities then a countdown at 8 (for 2yo) then a proper one with DD11 - we will play games and watch movies once babys in bed. Cant go anywhere, can't even have a drink other than a small glass of champagne at midnight (nearly 8m pregnant) but I refuse to have a shit night to end a shit year

MrsDiplo · 26/12/2020 21:55

@Hangingover what is an online sexy party?

Thelikelylass · 26/12/2020 22:27

@Hangingover

Me and DP attending an online sexy party Grin
Does that entail drinks and nipples?
santasmincepie · 26/12/2020 22:48

Eat steak, drink wine, go to bed early. DP is working nights and DS is 1 and going through a sleep regression.

Taikoo · 27/12/2020 01:13

I'm abroad alone and I'm going on a group 3 day tour of a UNESCO world heritage site over NYE and NY.

When I booked to go on the group tour about 2 weeks ago, there was only 6 joiners and the tour almost didn't go ahead because the numbers were low.
Now that NYE is almost upon us, this group has swelled to 16.

In my experience, some single people often hedge their bets when it comes to NYE, hoping that a miracle will somehow happen and that they'll suddenly get invited to the party of the century where they'll meet the love of their life.
Or that the man/woman of their dreams will suddenly materialise on their sofa while they're in their pyjamas and dressing gown, having sunk half a bottle of pino grigio 30 minutes before midnight.

If you're single and can manage it and afford it, you have to plan well ahead and do your own thing otherwise you get left on your tod on your sofa on NY Eve.

Some of my single female friends are dithering and will probably end up doing nowt because they wouldn't plan anything and make up their minds. Like I said - sometimes you just have to do your own thing if you're single because no-one will be coming to help.
