Didn't even know about it and no I wouldn't have if I did, I find the whole clapping and bell ringing cringey.

SmileyClare · 24/12/2020 18:20

I'm glad you enjoyed it though Op. I feel like a miserable cunt now for writing that post Grin

To be fair, most small children have been giddy with excitement all day, bells or no bells. They'd probably be excited to go out the front to put the rubbish out

RealisticSketch · 24/12/2020 18:23

We went out, one other house was doing it and they had a small child with them so I was glad we did so the little child didn't wonder why no-one else was, it meant we got to wave and wish them Happy Christmas.

MrsMiaWallis · 24/12/2020 18:23

Our 4 year old neighbour knocked on our door to check if we were doing the jingle

Jesus

ArabellaScott · 24/12/2020 18:26

Well, this is the first I've heard of it.

So, no.

Hendalle · 24/12/2020 18:29

“Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings” Grin
No bell ringing here.. partly because I thought it was 8pm and ringing your own doorbell and I thought WTF to that.

I have no DC but I do feel for them it’s been shite this year and the build up to Christmas hasn’t been anywhere near the same.. even as an adult there are things I’ve missed - pantomime with the audience pulsating with excited children for IBS, pub lunch & drinks on 23/12 for another Wink

Sooo after reading this thread I feel like a complete grinch! But we’ve put decorations up in our front window this year, first time ever!

Merry Christmas all! I hope 2021 is kinder to us all and that FC/Santa brings you all a lovely gift.. he’s on his way, already delivered to some in the Southern Hemisphere, we’re next Xmas Smile

Burnthurst187 · 24/12/2020 18:32

No because I'm not a sheep

Hendalle · 24/12/2020 18:32

** for one

should keep the ruddy IBS out of the equation for one day Blush

notanotherlockdownsurely · 24/12/2020 18:34

Hope I'm not the only one who downloaded a bell app and stood outside with GS at 6 ( he had my iPhone and I had a saucepan and wooden spoon )
Couldn't hear anyone else doing it so wondered if we'd got the time right

SmileyClare · 24/12/2020 18:34

Aha ha that really made me laugh. Your husband indoors shouting What the hell are you doing with the bloody doorbell love. I'm trying to watch the tele Grin

No because I'm not a sheep
I bet you’re fun at parties Xmas Grin

@ SmileyClare if not for this thread that would be my life at 8pm Grin

jay55 · 24/12/2020 19:18

I thought about it, but it was too fucking cold.

Witchend · 24/12/2020 19:33

Was outside at 6pm. No bells at all. I don't think this was very widely publicised as there's normally a few people out for anything (at top of hill on a very long road and can see well down!)

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 24/12/2020 19:36

Shame the Facebook shaming has begun..sort of like the clap again..people apparently are uncaring blah blah.

CandyLeBonBon · 24/12/2020 19:39

No. I didn't ring bells. My brother committed suicide 2 weeks ago and his funeral was the day before yesterday. So no.

AppleKatie · 24/12/2020 19:40

It clashed with Carol’s from Kings Shock

RoseAndRose · 24/12/2020 19:44

Only two families here.

Plus one passing neighbour who was a bit WTF but very friendly about it

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 24/12/2020 19:51

We didn't join in. My brother told me I'm miserable and we should have joined in so FC knew where the children live. The children in question are 16 and 14 and FC hasn't got lost yet Grin

We've also had a thing sent to our street WhatsApp group. 12 noon tomorrow. On the doorstep with a drink and shout "cheers"

AliasGrape · 24/12/2020 20:04

Half the street out here, it was lovely. Some fairly tame jingling of bells, lots of candles/ lanterns, chatted at a safe distance to neighbours, my baby loved looking at Hyde lights before falling asleep in my arms and our dog and the neighbours dogs ran up and down convinced it was all for them. All the kids on the road seemed really happy and our next door neighbour who is 80, caring for her husband with dementia and has generally had a terrible year told us it had absolutely made her Christmas.

I’ve not put anything on Facebook and no idea if anyone else has, not had chance to look and don’t have any neighbours on there anyway.

Left me feeling more cheerful than I have in weeks frankly.

But then I guess I’m just a sheep. Oh well!

AliasGrape · 24/12/2020 20:05

*baby loved looking at THE lights, no idea what Hyde lights are, what a bizarre typo.

I'm so sorry. I hope you have support around you at such a terrible time.
SmileyClare · 24/12/2020 20:24

Alias That actually sounds lovely and neighbourly. We shouldn't really need a gimmick to bring people together like that but hey ho.

we have to ring the bells to let Santa know where we live really? more bloody traditions people are forcing on us in a sort of guilt tripping / shame on you if you didn't do it you miserable git way Please God No. Elf on the shelf, Christmas eve boxes, now having to tell father Christmas where you live.

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 24/12/2020 20:27

Is this for the NHS again?
I have a lot of friends working in the NHS who are sick of this feel good crap (quote by the way). Maybe lots get something out of it but I have friends who can't cope with much more. And another quote "please follow the guidelines to stop the pressure on the NHS".

DrMadelineXMASwell · 24/12/2020 20:34

Cute bell ringing by rosy cheeked cherubs excited for Father Christmas jingling them nicely - yes.

People making as much noise as possible in a 'look at me' kind of a way, banging pots and pans and playing bell noises loudly on speakers - oh hell no!
