"Grinching It"??

I've single handedly done xmas for me and three teens while simultaneously running a business under the shadow of a no deal Brexit and dealing with all the cv shit.

I've pulled off a fucking amazing Christmas under the circumstances and if anyone deserves a massive peal of bells it's me.

Hence my log fire, Baileys and xmas movie at 6pm

Itsonlymakebelieve · 24/12/2020 14:28

I have Christmas bells as part of my decorations I also have a family heirloom bell which is about 100 years old. I will not be ringing bells at 6pm so I’m a double grinch I have bells and I won’t be ringing them. Sorry not sorry

willsantausesantatize · 24/12/2020 14:28

I have a tiny little bell which wouldn't make much noise anyway. It was a novelty item my late mil had on her mantle piece for years.
I think if I go outside with that nobody would hear it!
I saw on the news last night about this bell idea. What is it for ?

willsantausesantatize · 24/12/2020 14:30

My friend has a proper school bell ! I'm so jealous as brings back memories of ringing the bell at school !

NoSuchThingAsCheese · 24/12/2020 14:30

Around our way apparently people will be singing Carols

ilovesooty · 24/12/2020 14:33

Certainly not.
It's become increasingly obvious to me that most people don't give a flying fuck about anyone else in terms of wider society outside their own little families and I reckon the bell ringers are probably as inherently self absorbed as most people, if not more so.

I just hope no one decides fireworks would be a good idea.

DonLewis · 24/12/2020 14:34

I'm in. Anything to help spread some Christmas magic for my 8 yo. He's coped so well with this year. If bells help, I'm in. Xmas Smile

trappedsincesundaymorn · 24/12/2020 14:37

The sound of a jingling bell set's my teeth on edge (think nails down a blackboard kind of thing). I'm putting my head phones on and blocking it all out.

TheOneTheOnlyPedroPony · 24/12/2020 14:37

We are. Some person twat on our local FB page has also had the amazing shit idea of everyone singing Auld Lang Syne on their doorsteps at midnight on NYE. Thankfully it doesn't seem to have caught on cos if a load of pissed up people singing/shouting wake up 16m old DS I will NOT be happy!!!

BogRollBOGOF · 24/12/2020 14:38

@madroid

The bells are to foster a sense of community for those forced to be on their own this year I think?
I'd rather be allowed to engage with my real communities. A couple of minutes of jinggling is pointless.
User56770987 · 24/12/2020 14:39

It's for kids to ring a bell for Santa to hear because there is bugger all else for them to do. What's the issue? Don't join in if you don't want to.

I thought the original idea was for people in tier 4, the ones who actually aren’t allowed to see any friends or family on Christmas Day.

This has been planned since start of October, well before Tier 4.

So if we don't go along with the cheese - let's all do as someone says .... then we are grinchy or a Grinch .... ok then how old are you 10 ? Name calling people who hate cheese

Splodgetastic · 24/12/2020 14:41

I’ve been playing my organ loudly instead.

MistletoeandGin · 24/12/2020 14:42

I will neither be ringing bells nor being a grinch... I’ll be at a carol service outside the church with my DC Smile

SkySports · 24/12/2020 14:43

@AnneLovesGilbert

The woman on the radio helpfully suggested filling a jar with metal nails which apparently sounds exactly like bells Hmm

I didn’t clap for carers and the bastard neighbours who did kept waking my baby and I won’t be doing this. Plenty of festive cheer in our home without this sort of nonsense and potentially upsetting someone who can hear the racket.

Now that is funny

willsantausesantatize · 24/12/2020 14:44

I won't be singing Auld Lang syne !
I'm dreading 2021 if I'm honest.
I'll be thinking of the ones that sadly didn't make it this year quietly.

AuntieStella · 24/12/2020 14:45

Only if I can hear a merry tinkling.

It's a bit too cheesy for me, but don't mind joining in to show a bit of fellow feeling with the neighbours

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 24/12/2020 14:47

My OH is a massive bellend. I might just push him outside at 6pm

Audreyseyebrows · 24/12/2020 14:50

I’m by myself tonight and live in the middle of nowhere. I have a bell so just depends on how much wine I drink.

bellagogosdead · 24/12/2020 14:50

I thought about playing Frigging in the Rigging full blast instead.Xmas Grin

Made me laugh! I remember the punk days. They are all soft as butter now ( the ones that survived! Lol)

Most families with young children have some sort of musical instrument with bells on, or a Xmas decoration that will jingle.
