Ok. So forget carbon foot print and covid as this is just imaginary fun. Or saying it's a stealth boast. Anywhere, including UK or childhood holidays.

If you was able for one day to go back to your favourite place and do your favourite thing. What would it be?

Mine would be Hong Kong. For so many reasons I doubt I will ever go again.

I would order rice for breakfast as eating anything else was a ball ache. I would have a wonder around the park watching people do the group exercise then go and the escalators that dont really lead to anything much. Round the botanical gardens. Go up Victoria peak. In the evening get the Star ferry to the markets. Then mooch around the shops at midnight. Star ferry at the markets is one of my happy places.

If not there then Torquay when I was a kid.

My ‘big’ birthday a couple of years ago. I was in Florida with DH, DS, DSS and my parents. Standing in the magic kingdom, watching the amazing fireworks with my closest family, watching their faces at the sheer spectacle of it all was a memory I will never forget.

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 24/12/2020 07:00

In snow covered mountains skiing all day. Frequent stops for hot chocolate. Then an outdoor swim in the heated pool, followed by the sauna. A glass of gluwein and a hearty Austrian meal.
Can't wait to do this again!

tinseltart · 24/12/2020 07:02

Isafjordhur in the winter

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 24/12/2020 07:02

Trekking in the Himalaya. The clouds move every so often to reveal huge mountains. People you pass always say hello. Staying at a tiny lodge with natural hot springs and a huge table with coals underneath to warm you up

Howcanwehelp · 24/12/2020 07:03

I see Florida has been covered so somewhere hot and European, let's say Portugal. Wake up slowly, have a great breakfast then a look round the local beautiful Old Town and Market. Back to the villa for lunch and a swim in private pool. When it's getting dark dinner in a local restaurant of fresh seafood. Bliss.

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 07:04

I would also say skiing or Disney Florida. But I always think of the time a friend and I hired bikes in Napa Valley and cycled round the vineyards wine tasting. So much fun. Beautiful views. Amazing wine. Loved it.

For me, on safari at Shamwari private game reserve in Port Elizabeth. Rise at 4am to the most delicious breakfast. Out on a game drive with the four other hotel residents (hotel only accommodates 6), watching the elephants start their day. Back to the hotel for a second breakfast and then a swim in the private pool and a siesta. As afternoon draws in, back on a game drive. Watch a family of lions bask in the sun just a few meters away. The sound of a lion roaring on a fast African plane literally moved me to tears. One of the most unforgettable moments in my life. Sundowners in the jeep. Back to the hotel for dinner. The most amazing chef prepping the food and the ranger sharing his incredible stories

It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. The ranger gave us brilliant advice when out on a game drive "put your cameras down and capture these moments in your mind, not through the lense of a camera". It was so true. I remember every bit of that moment; the smells, the heat, the sounds, all of it, in the way a photo never could.

The best holiday of my life, without a moments hesitation!

HMSBeagle · 24/12/2020 12:46

I would love to do a safari one day. They sound amazing.

I was out on the barrier reef once and the guide said his job was boring, but I thinking he was honoured to be somewhere that was slowing dying and would soon possibly disappear. Must be better going to a reserve where they are more passionate about preserving the wildlife ( or maybe it just my guide that was not passionate).

I have been in a hot tub in Canada. I had a few large Beatles bobbing around in it too which went down my swimming costume. That was the rocky mountains and there was also a low level fear of being mauled by a bear 🤣

Boat trip to zante, undoubtedly the moat beautiful place I've ever been. Eating in the harbour, feeding the fish.

Worriedandabitscared · 24/12/2020 12:51

Anyway in DisneyWorld but I really enjoyed my time in Japan, just pottering around looking at shops, skyscrapers, trying new food - I felt like I was in a fantasy world. I loved it. I hope to take my little boy there one day as we went before he was born.

Splodgetastic · 24/12/2020 12:57

I would start with yoghurt, fruit and muesli for breakfast or maybe an omelette with smoked ham. Then I would spend a day walking in the mountains. It could be sunny or it could be rainy, but either way I’d have a hearty lunch in a mountain hut, could be a variety of things, with a shandy or alcohol-free wheat beer (altitude). Maybe stop at another hut mid-afternoon for some fresh milk for DH and coffee and cake for me, or maybe I would have a milk. Then swim. Then dinner would hopefully be pasta buffet (DH favourite) or duck or schnitzel (mine). Then a couple of proseccos in a local bar or on the balcony.

February 2020 my best friend and I, and our husbands went to Mauritius. On my birthday we hired a private speedboat and driver for the day ... it was perfect. He took us around the island, we fed monkeys, walked on a sandbank, went snorkelling off the boat, had a private barbecue on a deserted beach and more.
We spent the day laughing, drinking and just being happy. I’ll remember it forever Smile

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 24/12/2020 12:59

Walking along a golden beach in Vietnam with DH and our 4 dc. Made me realise what a great life I have, and how very lucky I am.

Camomila · 24/12/2020 13:05

An old gashioned wooden sail boat off Northern Sardinia with DH on our honeymoon. We all jumped out and swam in the sea, and had the nicest pasta on board.

Camomila · 24/12/2020 13:05

LadyLazaruss · 24/12/2020 13:10

DH and I have literally just been researching our next holiday - hopefully it'll be in 2021.

I think my favourite day was in Paris. Gloriously sunny day going from museum to museum, back to the hotel with fresh bread and cheese for lunch, strolling around the Luxembourg gardens with an ice cream, dinner in a beautiful restaurant with views of the Eiffel Tower, and then ending the day sat underneath it watching it being lit up when it got dark. Just fab.

HMSBeagle · 24/12/2020 13:12

Walking in the mountains sounds like hard work. I have always fancied walking the great wall if China, but I'm not too fit so would have to get fit first.

Boat to trip to Zante reminds me of a all day island hopping we did in Corfu. There was a storm all day. I thought I was going to throw up and die then throw up and die again.

But looking back it's a day that i remember fondly. I swore no boat ever again ( but i have been on a boat since)

Lovely thread!

I genuinely can't choose between two, either my birthday a few years ago spent in Copenhagen. Warm cinnamon rolls grabbed for breakfast on the way out of the hostel, jumping on our bikes to explore the city, stopping for coffee and cakes whenever we fancied and some champagne in the evening before sitting outside one little coffee shop in the evening while it was dark and all lit up by fairy lights as people carried on around us. Just felt so peaceful and relaxed, I can't wait to go back.

The other is a very different mood - New Orleans two years ago, heading down Bourbon Street one night and listening to all the amazing live music, stopping in so many bars for cocktails and drinks. One jazz band very kindly gave us the final request of the night and I danced with a sweet old lady I'd never met before as they played 'What A Wonderful World'. It was so busy and everyone was so friendly, it was like one massive party in the street with everyone just having a good time and dancing together. Got very drunk and barely remember getting in at 5am but it was easily one of the best nights of my life!

Timeturnerplease · 24/12/2020 13:17

100% what @PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle said.

Or in Tahiti, lying on a sun lounger with a fully loaded Kindle and the prospect of paddle boarding/a boat trip/scuba diving when I tee up to it.

We have a toddler, so sadly neither of these would be a reality even without covid.

Magpiecomplex · 24/12/2020 13:18

Boat trip and paddling in the sea near Paihia, New Zealand. On Christmas Eve many years ago. The sun was shining, the sea was gloriously warm and most importantly someone else was going to be cooking and cleaning up after Christmas dinner the next day!

gingajewel · 24/12/2020 14:06

I have a few and I haven’t travelled that much

  • discovering Disneyland Paris with my mom, I have amazing memories!
-puerto Rico in Gran Canaria with my oh, it was a perfect sunny day and we swam in the pool, had a siesta and then went drinking on the night, just perfect
  • Brighton! Always my happy place and I got to take my dd, we wandered round the lanes, went to the marina and had the best day, I love Brighton so much!

Summer before last we went to the Austrian Alps. Iffy weather most of the time but we had one glorious hot day with clear skies all day. We drove up into the mountains, the most amazing drive up 30 scary hairpin bends. At the cable car base there was a glacier you could walk through. Then we went up the cable car to the top which was just over 3000m. At the top the viewing platform straddled the Italy Austria border which was cool. It was the most amazing view over the Alps. We drove down and stopped off at clear blue lakes. It was very hot at the valley bottom were we were staying to we went to a great outdoor swimming park. A fantastic day. My 8 year wrote about on his return to school was lovely to see his description of it.

Hawaii... When we went for our honeymoon... But with the kids this time.

BrimFullOfAsher · 24/12/2020 14:20

Now that I have my PADI Open Water SCUBA certificate, I'd love to go diving in the Red Sea from Egypt. Snorkeling alone was beautiful, would love to see it from under the water now.

Or back to safari in Tanzania 🥰🥰
