Ok. So forget carbon foot print and covid as this is just imaginary fun. Or saying it's a stealth boast. Anywhere, including UK or childhood holidays.

If you was able for one day to go back to your favourite place and do your favourite thing. What would it be?

Mine would be Hong Kong. For so many reasons I doubt I will ever go again.

I would order rice for breakfast as eating anything else was a ball ache. I would have a wonder around the park watching people do the group exercise then go and the escalators that dont really lead to anything much. Round the botanical gardens. Go up Victoria peak. In the evening get the Star ferry to the markets. Then mooch around the shops at midnight. Star ferry at the markets is one of my happy places.

If not there then Torquay when I was a kid.

My birthday last year was spent on crete. We got up and went for breakfast then for a swim, lazed on the beach for the afternoon and then in the evening went to Neapoli where they threw the most amazing festival for Assumption or Feast of the Virgin Mary where we ate drank and danced til the wee small hours before going back to our apartment, the festival went on til morning. Kind of different to this year's birthday, just the 2 of us at home rather than a street party with 15000 people!

@User27aw Your holiday sounds in a similar location to mine.

Last year in Antigua. Speed boat trip to go snorkelling, saw the most amazing fish.
Returned to the beach for afternoon tea, cocktails then dinner.
Just perfect.

timeforawine · 24/12/2020 14:44

I'm torn between snorkelling in the Seychelles or walking round a volcano in Hawaii.
Amazing holidays

". I have always fancied walking the great wall if China, but I'm not too fit so would have to get fit first."

We went to China last year and climbed a bit of the wall..it nearly killed me! Really steep steps about a foot and a half high and hundreds of them.

I'd go back to Halong Bay in Vietnam. Puttering around the islands in a boat with no particular place to go. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been and amazing food.

We took a battered Suzuki jeep to Englishman's cove in Tobago which is a perfect horseshoe tropical beach. No buildings, no other tourists, just palm trees and a picnic.

We lay out the sand and watched some fisherman pulling in a net. And a pelican. It was blissful Smile. Sigh !

@splodgetastic

It was the Kaunertal Glacier road, in the Prutz/Serfaus area. Is that where you went?

My perfect holiday day would be on a Greek island (too many lovely ones to choose from but I love Crete and Naxos)

I'd start the day with breakfast on the terrace, real Greek yoghurt with muesli and fruit. Then go off on a hike that takes in some ruins and churches, stopping off at a bar with a view for an ice cold mythos and lunch.

I'd get back to my villa to get showered then spend the afternoon snoozing and reading on the beach, ending the day with a dinner of moussaka at the beach bar, then watch the sun go down with a cocktail or three.

Another Tobago one.
Many years ago we managed to get a last minute to Tobago. We had a lovely guide, John, who took us all over the island and to Little Tobago, which is a bird sanctuary. He always had a stash of rum punch, deceptively potent, for the homeward journey, too.
The best day was a catamaran cruise down the coast to Nylon pool. It was utter bliss.
In fact the entire holiday was really wonderful: virgin rain forest, swimming at the base of a waterfall, trip over to Trinidad, Sunday school, walking out to the headland to watch the fishing boats landing their catches, snorkelling, swimming, the markets. I could go on.

I was exploring a small wood near my childhood home that was difficult to get into because of an immense, ancient bramble patch. It was so old that once I got through the outer wall, the canes arched over my head and I could walk underneath.
The other side there was an abandoned cottage, with leaded windows and thick bottle glass, and hand made tiles on the roof. It was absolutely magical. I had it as a private den and hidey hole for several years.

Freetodowhatiwant · 24/12/2020 15:26

All of the above! Pre kids DH and I had some incredible holidays to SE Asia, S America, Australia, the pacific islands, the US...My perfect day was always a lovely breakfast of fresh fruit and tea followed by a walk around a beautiful town or market. Ideally lunch in a cobbled backstreet and swimming and sunbathing in the afternoon. Back to the room for sex, showers, chilling and then heading out somewhere with twinkly lights for an al fresco dinner in the warm night air.

Maldives blow out last Christmas. Swimming with manta rays and turtles and amazing tropical fish.
Private beach front villa. Secluded beach area straight to reef and edge of reef snorkelling all day long.
Not fully a beach holiday type but that was magical and also for it being just weeks before this whole shitshow started.

Peckhampalace · 24/12/2020 15:35

Had an amazing day when I went rafting then flew over the Athabasca glacier in a small plane and then had dinner in the mountains watching the sunset.

Have been very lucky over the years and would be happy to spend dawn watching meerkats or hot air ballooning over Bagan in Burma, or sit watching Mount Cook to if if the clouds will lift and we can see the peak or actually, just sitting with a drink watching the world go by.

Defender90 · 24/12/2020 15:38

Driving into Monument Valley just as the sun set, waking up early and watching from our tiny cabin deck as the sun came up, then heading off on a private tour with a Navajo guide.

Hand on heart the most breathtaking place I've ever been.

Lovely thread.

Our first day at Disney Paris for my sons 4th birthday, it was a special event weekend as well which made it more enjoyable, he thought his friends (my friends!) were there for his birthday, in reality they were performing.

Second, is my first trip to Japan, its my favourite before child holiday.

Splodgetastic · 24/12/2020 17:40

@User27aw, no, it was Hintertux - also recommended!

User27aw · 24/12/2020 18:09

@splodgetastic
We have booked to go to Mayrhofen next summer (was supposed to go this year) which I think is quite near to Hintertux. Glad to hear its good there as well!

MirandaMarple · 24/12/2020 18:17

Seeing a tigress and her two cubs at Ranthambore national park with minutes to spare on our timed drive.

Wow. I'd love to know where that is!
Splodgetastic · 24/12/2020 18:28

@User27aw, you will absolutely love it! The swimming pool, the dairy, the bakery, the steam railway, the many mountains and mountain huts... It’s easy to get to Hintertux from there. Technically you can ski 365 days a year on the glacier.
