Not been paid by new employer and no pay slip received

Started seasonal work a few weeks ago, on a zero hours contract.

Pay day would normally be on or around the 28th of each month, but brought forward this month to 24th.

I have not received a payslip either online or in the post, have just checked my bank account and my wages are not there and there are no payments pending.

What should I do if still nothing there in the morning? Being Christmas Eve there probably won't be anyone in HR or Payroll until next Tuesday 29th...

Really disappointed as have worked so hard, outside on my feet for hours in freezing cold, wind and rain, and was really looking forward to being paid

Started 2nd December.

Boss is ok, so should I call or email her in the morning to query? I could also try HR but they probably won't be back until the 29th, which is when I'm next due to work.

They should be able to send you an emergency payment regardless of payroll being off. Surely it can be done from home!

check your account in morning, I find sometimes my wage doesn't shown bang on 12am, it might be there in morning

Yeah, I'd check again in a couple of hours, as pp said, it's not always bang on mid night. Also, are your pay slips paper ones, or online?

Thanks, it's so disappointing that this has happened. Right now I don't want to go back on the 29th if I'm not being paid.

I wonder why I haven't even had a payslip.

I will do that, also I've never been told whether payslips are sent online or in paper form, stupidly I never thought to ask.

In my experience payroll usually goes out in working hours during the morning, but companies do things various ways. Don't panic, and fingers crossed for you. Can you ask another worker when they got paid last time?

Some companies are sloppy with payslips (even though it's the law they have to be given to employees), so no slip doesn't always mean no pay.

Did you get anything in writing or email that wages would be paid on the 24th? If so, I'd say if it doesn't arrive by a reasonable time you should contact someone if you are able.

But if you had nothing in writing then you perhaps can't expect it until the 28th or 29th after all.

Thanks, can't ask any other worker as I don't really know anyone well enough to ask and haven't got contact details.

Wages don't usually go in until 2-3am with my bank. The bank actually receives the wages days before you do, why not just do online chat with your bank to doubly check they're due to go in?

Thanks, already checked with the bank via telephone banking and there are no pending transactions

Hoping the money will be there in the morning...

Have got two emails stating that payment this month will be on the 24th.

It could be to do.woth cut off.dates. we had an early cut off.this month with the early payment date - anyone not on the system before that date does not get paid until January (I had a new starter and had to work bloody hard to make sure she got paid today). With it being zero hour presumably you would get paid only the hours worked before the monthly cut off with anything worked after cut off being paid in January (as they cannot reliably predict what hours you will work so can't pay you in advanced the way they can with a fixed hours contract)?

What did they say would happen with your wages when you started?

My wages often don't go in until the middle of the night - I'm being paid today too and I've just checked and it's not in there yet. Hopefully it will be there for you when you wake up in the morning.

Are you sure you don’t work a month in advance? All zero hour contracts I know are like this.

It's too early for your wages to have gone in, I wouldn't expect it until at least 5am possibly later and payroll don't have to send payslips until end of business today.

You sound like you're used to UC which often goes in 2 minutes after midnight, private companies payroll goes in a lot later.

Also don't assume no one is in today, companies usually pay on the last working day, so they should be in the office if somehow you haven't been paid.

This happened to me years ago. I was young and shy (first job) and waited a week before chasing, and only then because I'd maxed out my overdraft they organised an emergency payment that day as they'd forgotten to add me to payroll a big national company with dozens of branches, but the CEO himself was hugely apologetic. If it's not there in the morning chase it up as a matter of urgency. Amazing that they can fire you if you don't turn up but if they 'forget' to pay you you feel unreasonable asking

Some businesses input the bank payments on the actual payment date, not in advance, so it might not show up first thing.

Mine sometimes comes in as late as 1am, but got paid as well tonight and it went in quite quickly

My work won’t process today’s salaries until the office opens at 9 am. Money will be in today which is payday.

Ours often goes in at around 8am on payday. Technically I think they have until the end of the day to pay you.

Totally missing the point of the thread - but is monthly wages a thing in the UK? There was another thread on MN about a similar thing. Not many people here get paid monthly - I would hate it! Fortnightly is more usual in NZ, and some people get paid weekly.

Monthly is very much the norm in the UK. I've never heard of a company here paying fortnightly, though weekly is common in some sectors.
