How do you get your glasses properly clean?

Mine seem to get quite cloudy and I've bought those wipes but they don't seem to get properly clean, still a bit smeary. What's the trick?

I wash them under the tap and dry with a dry towel.

Usually on my dressing gown

But If they’re really bad I use a splash of white vinegar on kitchen roll.

As in specs? I kind of wash them in my hands under the tap with a bit of fairy liquid

A blob of washing up liquid rubbed in with fingers, rinsed under warm water and dried with a clean soft teatowel.

I use glasses wipes but wave them around in the air for a bit so some of the solution evaporates and they aren't so wet before using them to clean my glasses.

Fairy and hot water, drip dry ideally (hot water hence evaporates reasonably fast). Failing that wipe with a very clean t towel. I’ve had my eyes lasered but prior I wore glasses for years. I now have to wash my dd glasses (at least!) once a day - no idea what she does in school reception all day but they are truly bogging by home time

I clean mine under the tap, using a single drop of washing up liquid. Rinse, dry with a tissue, perfect.

Recommended by the optician and works a treat.

Glass cleaner like you'd use on windows or glass furniture. On a microfibre cloth.

Under a warm tap with hand wash. Let them air dry for a bit and then buff with a cloth.

Definitely fairy liquid and soft kitchen roll. I don't do mine often but when I do I then feel like I've not got them on because everything looks so much clearer!

Fairy liquid and rinse under the tap or method grapefruit spray - because I love the smell.

Is it ok to use fairy liquid if your glasses have coatings?

Its a Minky glass cleaning cloth.

I have read the Eco glasses cleaning cloth is really good.

Generally it is recommended to avoid washing up liquid on coated specs. I can't find anything about using it on uncoated lenses so it's probably ok, but regular soap does the trick for both.

You put the pad bits either side of the glass, hold them down and wipe. They're like tiny chamois (sp?) cloths. I've shared them with lots of people and they're all surprised by how dirty their glasses were and how clean the are afterwards. I tend to buy them from Hong Kong suppliers in packs of 10 mainly because my colleagues end up borrowing them and not giving them back 😊

I also do the washing up liquid thing, and I use a special spray from Poundland or somewhere, but they need doing every few hours.

They get so cloudy with fingerprints

I use it on coated specs - I have transition lenses with anti reflective and anti scratch coatings. I’ve not had any problems. (Worn glasses for several decades).
I wouldn’t use anything like toothpaste as that’s abrasive and could cause expensive damage. 😳

I can never get mine clean ... so I hand them to DH who cleans them with a lens wipe and a spray he buys at the opticians.

if I try and use the same stuff I end up with smears. We joke that if we split up I'd spend the rest of my life in a blur.

There's a type of lens that's nice in many ways but is notoriously hard to properly clean. If you were given this they should have explained it to you so you knew what you were buying. I chose them the last two times but can't recall the name.
