When do I start eating the Christmas food??!!

Serious question
We are tier 4- I have loads of Christmas snacks in. They are staring at me 👀 I keep walking past them trying to ignore them. Is it acceptable to start eating them now? I don't want to have nothing left for Christmas itself if I start now! Haha
When does everyone else start on the Christmas snacks?

Christmas snacks are in the oven for dinner! Smile

bigbluebus · 20/12/2020 16:51

Mini stollen were eaten a week ago. Box of quality street demolished on Friday evening. All food (and drink) seems to be fair game since DS came back from Uni 2 weeks ago!

Hairwizard · 20/12/2020 16:53

Im near finished a bottle of baileys already after opening wed night. Will drink last of it later in the small hope it might get me out of my pmt rage today.

I try and stagger the Christmas food:

Mince pies - normally have the first at the church Christmas faire. This year I started on 1st December

Mulled wine - when we put the tree up, 1st weekend of December

Chocolate tin - when our friends gave us one last week.

Gingerbread house - yesterday to start the Christmas holidays off.

But I'm trying really hard not to open the Jacobs cracker crisp tubs, lindt chocolate, or fancy snacks until Christmas eve.

Big food shop happening on Tuesdsy so imagine that's when my self will will flounder.

Chimeraforce · 20/12/2020 16:54

We started last night.

katy1213 · 20/12/2020 16:55

I've finished all the crisps.

roundtable · 20/12/2020 16:55

Started today with some cheese, pate and crackers for lunch. It was amazing!

AgeLikeWine · 20/12/2020 16:55

We have been scoffing Lidl stollen bites for weeks. Grin

rslsys · 20/12/2020 16:56

Surely it's acceptable to start on the Christmas Food when it's first available in the shops and being advertised - so that would be September then . . . .

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/12/2020 16:57

We started yesterday - that tier 4 announcement was like a whistle blowing!

bluechameleon · 20/12/2020 16:57

We started about 2 weeks ago. I've already had to replace the pringles twice

Crakeandoryx · 20/12/2020 16:57

Now! We're tier 3, the cake is cut, the mince pies are being eaten and the pork pie was part of our lunch. Why keep it all for one week. Christmas at home starts now as far as I'm concerned!

HedgieHog · 20/12/2020 17:00

Filled the chocolate/ sweets dispenser today, it has 8 compartments and is filled with nuts, sweets and chocolate
If we don't start now they will be there in feb, should have started earlier I think!

chipshopElvis · 20/12/2020 17:01

Usually wait for Christmas eve but started last nigh. 2020 innit?

delilahbucket · 20/12/2020 17:02

Started today which is quite late for us!

ImnotCarolineHirons · 20/12/2020 17:06

We've been on the mince pies since end of November.
Started the Baileys last week.
Hammering the pate today.
This year of all years there are no rules!

Crunchymum · 20/12/2020 17:10

I set the "Christmas" table up a few days before (snazzy Xmas themed table cloth, festive candles, the posh fruit bowl becomes the sweetie bowl, all snacks out and can be opened)

I actually re-dress the table on the day itself and then back to the festive / treat table until NYD.

C0NNIE · 20/12/2020 17:12

When the decorations went up obv. So mid November this year.

It’s like a marathon, you need to pace yourself. Beginners always start off too fast.

redpinkgreenblue · 20/12/2020 17:12

Haha so a resounding go for it!
I have just finished making gingerbread and it is wafting through the house. I think I'm going to open my first bottle of Christmas Prosecco to celebrate (and get me ready to scoff the gingerbread)!
I think if I had of opened it yesterday after the tier 4 announcement there would have been nothing left 😂😂
Now to decide what to go for, Cheese? Cake? Chocolate? Crisps? Mince pies? All of the above? It is almost Christmas week- sort of, I suppose!

We started on the fruit cake last night Smile

We are doing childcare for a 3 year old , we opened the strawberry bar this afternoon. If anyone's near an eastern European shop it's Easel in a large red box.

redpinkgreenblue · 20/12/2020 17:13

@HedgieHog what sweet dispenser is this? Love things like this! I was tempted to buy a mini chocolate fountain this year, until I found some chocolate cream in marks and Spencer's . Can't wait to bust that open too!

I have this argument Wink with my husband every year. We are in the Christmas-tide this week fill your boots!

redpinkgreenblue · 20/12/2020 17:16

@rslsys you are my sort of person!! I think I'm missing my Christmas coffees and cakes I would usually be having this time of year! Doesn't help DH works in a tier 2 area where everything is open. He keeps getting goodies for lunch which I can't have! Think my decision has been made

sofiaaaaaa · 20/12/2020 17:16

Do it! No judgment here, I have accidentally bought so much food that it wouldn’t make a difference if we started now!

Mainly because shops have massive 8-12 serving Christmas items and no smaller sizes, but it’s just the 2 of us this year💔 supermarkets should definitely have taken into account smaller Christmas gatherings this year thanks to travel restrictions
