Used to work in customer services. Three surnames have never left my brain:
Mrs Wildgoose
Mr Gotobed
Mr and Mrs D’eath.

Please share the weird and wonderful surnames you own or have heard. Apologies if your surname is one I’ve listed.

OP posts:

There's a Dick Soper (pronounced soaper) round here. He used to be a customer of ours, and a very nice man too.

In a different place of work, in a different area, I came across a Mr Page-Turner.

I had lecturers called Dr Money and Dr Valentine. It was like being at the University of Carry On.

I’ve also met Wright-Pratts and a Mrs Green-Gray.

Then there’s the infamous cricketing commentary “He batsman is Holding the bowler’s Willey”.

Not that unusual but in the context of their professions I was rather amused by Doctor Grave and Doctor Harm.

missmouse101 · 20/12/2020 07:05

Old acquaintance -Mrs Goodhusband. Old music teacher-Mrs Bag. Cousin-Schwank. Work colleague-Mr Kok (who nearly called his son Breanus, no word of a lie! We pointed out the unfortunate association...)

I once knew someone who was dating an American with the surname Bumgardener (that was the spelling he used - which I assume was a corruption of the German surname baumgartner)

DH used to have an American client called Randy Bumgardener ...

Sforsh49 · 20/12/2020 07:20

I once worked in a retailer where for certain items it was law to take name and address. Surname given as - "Tart", asked for the postcode, popped it into the database and imagine my surprise when the street name "Slag Lane" appeared,..... if only she had lived at number 69!

MinnieMountain · 20/12/2020 07:22

I had a colleague at my old workplace called Gordon Bennett...why would you do that to your child?!?

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 20/12/2020 08:09

A teacher at my school was called Alan Partridge, unfortunately for him this was in the 90s when the show was massive. Also Mr Niskin, nothing to see here until they did the door signs with initials and his was P. P Niskin.

I've always quite fancied having a name like Drinkwater or Gotobed.

bauballballs · 20/12/2020 08:13

My DC has is at school where the teacher is Mr Butt and the TA is Mrs Dicker.

JoanneCofton · 20/12/2020 08:14

I once spoke to a lady who’s surname
Was Wardrobe. It just seemed very random.

And my absolute favourite one is I donated to a charity walk for someone I worked with. He’d linked to the JustGiving page and the person who he was doing the walk with had the surname Tortoiseshell. I’d marry that man in a heartbeat

PerpendicularVincent · 20/12/2020 08:16

Clawdy · 20/12/2020 08:44

I was once part of an amateur drama group with two couples in it called Pratt and Dick. We met up once in a theatre to watch a play, and one of our group said loudly as they entered, "Here come the Pratts and the Dicks! "

SoggyBiscuitss · 20/12/2020 08:47

OP I can vouch for those 3 surnames as I’ve seen them too from when I worked on a hotel reception!

Mr Christmas
And anything with bottom in it!
