Recommendations for lovely Christmas films for a 3 year old (that aren't tedious to watch with him).

OP posts:
Camomila · 19/12/2020 22:05

DS1 is 4.5, he likes Arthur Christmas, Polar Express, and Nativity 2 (though he kept saying shut up! after hearing it in Nativity 2 so maybe not...)

jelly79 · 19/12/2020 22:10

The snowman

mnahmnah · 19/12/2020 22:21

We watched Home Alone with our 3yo and he liked it

DS enjoyed The Polar Express this afternoon I'll be trying him out with The Muppet Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve!

lovelyredwine · 19/12/2020 22:24

Polar Express or the snowman are lovely.

Marmite27 · 19/12/2020 22:26

The Grinch, Arthur Christmas, Polar Express and Elf.

We watched a lot of ‘BBC Presents’ live action / theatre stuff on iplayer this afternoon and the kids were entranced (nearly 3 and 5).

I'm surprised at all the recommendations for Polar Express. As an adult there's something about it I find incredibly creepy! Can't really put my finger on it. Arthur Christmas is good and DS (2) was interested in it for a short time Smile

NameChange30 · 19/12/2020 22:35

Surprised to see just one mention of the Grinch so far, it's a firm favourite with my 3yo and I enjoy it too! The 2018 version with Benedict Cumberbatch doing the voice of the Grinch.

DS also enjoyed the Snowman, and Snowman & Snowdog, last year.

Haven't watched any others so we'll try some of the other suggestions on this thread Smile

SoggyBiscuitss · 19/12/2020 22:39

My 3yo DD is obsessed with “the nightmare before Christmas” (which I find very odd)

LunaLoveFood · 19/12/2020 22:42

Arthur christmas and the Grinch (2018 cartoon version)

NeonSparkle · 19/12/2020 22:44

My 3 year old DS is obsessed with Mickey Mouse twice upon a Christmas, Arthur Christmas and the new cartoon version of the grinch.
Also it’s not a film but he absolutely loves all the CBeebies pantos on bbc i player and the something special mr tumble Christmas special (also on I player)

waddlemyway · 19/12/2020 22:46

All the Julia Donaldson ones that come on the Beeb. Gruffalo is perhaps a bit scary but mine love Zog, Room on the Broom, Snail on the Tail of the Whale. Tiger in the Garden on Ch4. Haven't surfed through to see what this year's new ones are but those will surely all be re-run at some point. We always record them and use them all year...

willieversleep · 19/12/2020 22:47

The star is a nice one (though is based on the story of the birth of Jesus which might put some off)

waddlemyway · 19/12/2020 22:47

Oh and 'Going on a Bear Hunt' if it gets replayed! That was Ch4 too I think. Definitely 3-year old and parent compatible.

inappropriateraspberry · 19/12/2020 22:51

We recorded The Tiger who Came to Tea on C4 last year - that is a firm favourite along with all Julia Donaldson ones with our 2.5 year old.
I second all the CBeebies pantos, a bit longer and they enjoy recognising the familiar faces.
What about Frozen? My 5 year old is obsessed, obviously, but the younger one enjoys Olaf.

AnnieAreYouOkHun · 19/12/2020 22:53

My son really enjoyed the Polar Express as he loves trains.

teaandcustardcreamsx · 19/12/2020 22:59

Stickman is a hit with the three year olds I know, they absolutely love it! I found the movie less tedious than the book without the endless changing of I’m stickman I’m stick man I’m stickman that’s me and I long to go home to the family tree there’s also a gruffalo’s child movie which was rather good

DorothyBastard · 19/12/2020 23:05

My 2yo is obsessed with Stickman and enjoys the other Julia Donaldsons as well. She also loves The Snowy Day, an animation of the children’s book on Amazon Video

shalalala · 19/12/2020 23:51

@lovelyredwine

Polar Express or the snowman are lovely.
Where can I watch Polar Express please?
ClaireP20 · 19/12/2020 23:55

A very short one! They'll never last more than 30 mins at 3! The Gruffalo film is perfect, or Room on a broom. Have you watched the snowman one (aled jones singing walking in fhe air). It's old but short and great for 3 year old. Don't forget the film sweets!

ClaireP20 · 19/12/2020 23:56

@waddlemyway

Oh and 'Going on a Bear Hunt' if it gets replayed! That was Ch4 too I think. Definitely 3-year old and parent compatible.
Oh yes that was brilliant! I mean, ahem, the kids loved it...
Figmentofimagination · 20/12/2020 00:15

Arthur Christmas, Mickeys once upon and Christmas and twice upon a Christmas, The Santa Clause (one with Tim Allen).

My 3.5yo DS has loved watching the Santa Clause, he has found it so magical and will sit so still watching it. Last weekend when I wasn't feeling great he watched all 3 of the Santa Clause movies and then re-watched the first one again. The first one is the best imho.
