Just interested to know whether DDs 'home time' is typical.

Non school night, no lockdown hers is 9pm, later if she's at a friends house and we pick up.

Usually out at a park or similar.

I don't know whether it's typical or not but no, my DC won't be hanging about parks until 9pm at any age.

Interesting - why not? Where do you hope that they'll go?

In a park? In the dark? No chance! Wtf. Parks near me are locked up at that time

Y9 is in her bedroom. There a pandemic and it's dark. There is zero chance she'd be out tonight.

Hanging around a park? Nope. In someone's house/At cinema/food place etc fine.

As I said - non lockdown times.

Just curious as I'm in Ireland, what age is usually in Yr 9?

Bunnybigears · 19/12/2020 20:10

My year 9 hangs out in the streets until 9pm, not our local park as it has very dodgy things happen after dark at least the streets are lit and there are people about.

Our park is well lit and has a skate park which is lit. small rural town, good sense of community. Not much else to do I guess!

Nowhere... They can go to friends, or clubs, cinema etc, or have friends over. They're not roaming free with groups of mates. Confused

I always thought the kids who were out roaming and hanging about in parks were doing so without their parents' permission! Didn't realise some parents allowed it.

littleducks · 19/12/2020 20:13

Mine aren't allowed or hanging about in town /street corners /parks in the evening.

If she was out for a specific purpose I wouldn't mind how late she was out. But would generally pick her up, or go walk get back myself or order her an inner and track it after about 8pm

MrsJE · 19/12/2020 20:13

Even my 6th form DD wouldn't be hanging round the streets at 9pm lockdown or no lockdown.

Really? - you're not going to allow your children out with groups of friends at any age?

How old are they now?

Wow! I went to Ibiza with friends in sixth form!

6pm for my 13yo pre lockdown. I don’t let him out after dark. We live in Greater London.

funfunfunfunfun · 19/12/2020 20:17

I don't have children that age yet but when I was that age I was out until about 9, later in summer.

Yeah we are very not London. I suppose that makes a huge amount of difference to levels of freedom available to them. There's no way she would be out til 9 in London (I grew up there!)

Smarshian · 19/12/2020 20:25

When I was that age I used to have an 8.30/9 home time. I will probably say the same for my children (similar fairly rural area)

MrsJE · 19/12/2020 20:27

I have no objections to DD going on holiday but I will not allow her to roam the streets.
One of my older DDs travelled to Canada alone at 16 to meet a penfriend and she also did Camp America at 17 but I have never allowed any of my children to hang around the streets.

Bunnybigears · 19/12/2020 20:29

I'm baffled as to what people think is so bad about hanging about the streets? Especially now they cant go in each others houses. Hanging about doesn't always equal trouble.

I have a Year 8 and a Year 11. Neither of them go out hanging around with friends in the evening. I live in a very safe village. In non-Covid times they'd be at each other's houses or at the park, but only during the day time normally. Once they've come home for dinner they don't really go out again. I'd let them stay at a friend's in the evening if they wanted of course, until 9 I guess.

Duggeehugs82 · 19/12/2020 20:32

The kids i knew that hanged around the park were usually the kids i could imagine their parents weren't bothered where they were just as long as not near them

Hoppinggreen · 19/12/2020 20:32

My DD is 15 but I don’t let her just go and hang out at the park, although to be fair she has never asked.
If she wants to go to a friends then on a school night i would collect her at 8 or 10 at weekends
