Quite happily breaking bubbling Roolz here in tier 3- with a immense feeling of relief that we haven’t been moved to 4 although I suspect that every county in England will be tier 4 before the end of the year 😠.

Just hoping that it dries up enough before midnight on 31st to enable me to cycle the remaining 69 miles I need to achieve 4K miles cycles this year 🤓🤓

Iheartmysmart · 23/12/2020 19:35

Wow Blobby, that’s an achievement! Don’t think I’ve driven that far this year.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 23/12/2020 19:37

'Twas Christmas Eve Eve,
And all through the house,
No creature was heard,
Not even a....

Oh bollocks. Need to clean out the guinea pigs. Why oh why did I take pity and move the smelly beasts inside?!

DH has added socks, cereal multipack and whisky to his stocking and that's as good as it's going to get this year!

Reedwarbler · 23/12/2020 19:42

Oh dear. H is out in his waterproofs helping neighbours who are flooded. We are okay so far. The fire brigade can't come to them as they are too busy elsewhere, so it must be a major problem in the county. The rain easing off a bit and supposed to stop by midnight. I asked if we should get the sandbags out (from their messy resting place up the garden) but he thinks well be okay. Flooding terrifies me, I still haven't got over the summer of 2007! Still, takes your mind off other things.

Bollss · 23/12/2020 19:54

I had lovely baby snuggles today. I feel momentarily better about life. Have agrees to accidentally bump into one another on a walk if we get tier 4'd. Take that Boris. I also made two decent dairy free cakes for my lovely friend. Success!

I've got to tackle Aldi tonight so wish me luck.

amicissimma · 23/12/2020 19:54

The new variant thread is interesting. There are some posts on there making some good and helpful points and providing information. And a lot of the responses are 'oh, I see. Interesting. Thank you' type posts. But there are still some posts (and familiar names) just saying effectively 'nah, nah. Rubbish. You don't know what you're talking about. Stop down-playing the danger.'

It bizarre. There seem to be some people who only want 'information' that makes the virus ever more frightening.

I was going to pop to Aldi, let us know how it goes.
Taswama · 23/12/2020 20:02

Great idea Orchid ! Unfortunately they are already rather decimated from avian flu.

justasking111 · 23/12/2020 20:03

Yes minister explaining tiers 1 to 4

Blobby10 · 23/12/2020 20:08

@Iheartmysmart thank you! Cycling was my lockdown stress reliever so I had hit my original target for the year (2k) by the end of April 😁😁 seemed only sensible to increase it - wish I hadn’t now as those last few miles are proving very hard work 😂😂

SirSamuelVimes · 23/12/2020 20:12

I did Aldi at about three this afternoon. Expected the 6th circle of hell; it was absolutely fine. Not much busier than your average sat afternoon really.

justasking111 · 23/12/2020 20:12

Wales today 51 deaths 50 of them in South Wales. The daily post did their spin it's sadly 251 cases in n Wales. Yes we know all abutting the English border the hospital of death and disease is there, if you go in with an ingrowing toe nail you're guaranteed to get sick with something else. That's never published

justasking111 · 23/12/2020 20:15

If you've a yen for goose loads in Lidl will be reduced after Xmas we bought one a few years ago. Had a lovely lunch at a later date. Need room in the freezer though 😜

I wouldn’t dream of going to mine on a Saturday afternoon 😂
Iheartmysmart · 23/12/2020 20:19

@Blobby10 You can do it - we have every faith in you!

Justgivemewine · 23/12/2020 20:30

😱😱😱😱 At no roast potatoes or pigs in blankets.

That’s grounds for NC.

After a dodgy start to the week we’re as ready as we can be for a tier 4 Christmas (still missing a Christmas pud but that’s probably a good thing tbh, more room for roasties and pigs 😁)

I went for a walk to our local village shop today, not many people out but it was noticeable that people are suddenly panicking about not being more than 2m away from others again. The primary school run will be interesting if they do go back at the beginning of Jan.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 23/12/2020 20:34

@Reedwarbler I remember helping a friend's neighbour when their house flooded (friend's house was a little higher so escaped the flood plain run off). It was so sad, the mother was sobbing as it had ruined so much lovely inherited furniture. Hope you don't get caught.

MissEWeatherwax · 23/12/2020 20:35

Some local swans have been confirmed cases of avian flu. Which is really sad. Obviously not covid sad but sad.

Jourdain11 · 23/12/2020 20:38

Hello everyone,
Hope you're all doing okay. I'm fed up! Managed to get DD a doctor's appointment (she's in a really bad way, poor thing) only for the receptionist to call up and turn it into a TC because they are not letting potential disease vectors into the surgery unless absolutely necessary. I kind of felt this was necessary, so I was annoyed. The TC was pointless because the GP really needed to talk to DD, but she wouldn't speak and started hitting herself and screaming. The only good outcome from this was that we did get a f2f for tomorrow...

DH is scratchy because he's dreading an announcement about online learning next term and says he thinks online delivery is elitist and discriminatory against the less well off kids. (And he hates delivering it, lol.) Believe it or not, not every teacher in the world is desperate for schools to close whatever MN would have you believe.

DS (who is in Y1) declared today that he's going to school next term and he doesn't care what the "they" say. DD2 gave an elderly sigh and said in doom-laden tones, "If they keep us at home I won't have any social life at all. I'll probably get pressioned."

Jourdain11 · 23/12/2020 20:40

In other news, my friend's cat has Covid!

SirSamuelVimes · 23/12/2020 21:04

Little bit of good cheer to report here. An unofficial social committee sprang up on my estate back in spring. They've done street bingo and Easter & Halloween parades and all sorts. This evening they went round and handed out the hampers they've made for over a dozen different elderly people on our estate who live alone. All a complete surprise for the recipients; they've sung "we wish you a merry Christmas" to each one, and (because they ended up with so much stuff!) carried the rather heavy hamper & accompanying bag of groceries into the frailer people's houses for them. Some videos and photos have gone up on the FB group made to organise the hampers and it's just the loveliest thing. A wonderful bit of Christmas spirit.

SirSamuelVimes · 23/12/2020 21:05

@Jourdain11 very glad your DD has a proper appointment tomorrow x

Bollss · 23/12/2020 21:28

Aldi was surprisingly not that bad.

Only thing they didn't have was potatoes. But I didn't need any anyway.

Busy ish but no busier than some weeknights when I usually go.

Ended up buying stuff from middle aisle of shite as per!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 23/12/2020 21:30

Ooh, what did you get, @TrustTheGeneGenie? I love that middle aisle and we don’t have an Aldi near us so I can’t indulge often.

Bollss · 23/12/2020 21:36

Bath salts! A very cheap middle aisle spend of 79p each. One smells like Xmas the other like a peach cocktail type thing.
