SMA WYSOY EXPERIENCE?

leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 20:20

My daughter has very bad reflux and I was wondering if WYSOY had made it any better and if there’s any positive experiences with it in general.

Soya milk isn't recommended under 6 months unless on medical advice. Have you tried an anti reflux milk or other medications to help manage it?

TreacleHart · 18/12/2020 20:23

It stopped the projective vomiting and was the only thing that mainly stayed down. Be aware if they do bring it up it stinks and can stain clothes.

leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 20:30

I’ve tried everything for her reflux nothing is working.

Have you found that it’s better than normal formula @TreacleHart

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 18/12/2020 20:33

What are you using to help her with it just now?
What age is she?

leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 21:01

She’s 4 months and nothing at the moment
I have anti colic bottles as she has colic, vari flow teats, massage her, do exercises for her (bicycle kicks), feed her at almost 90 degree agree, keep her upright 1 hour after feeding. Burp her every 2 ounces and after feeding. Tried water, gripe water, infacol, comfort milk and other colief drops. Nothing is working it’s getting so tiring. She is constantly gassy and arches her back putting legs up to chest no matter how much I burp her or try to help her tummy. I feel helpless. Her poo is green, runny and bubbly. It smells very bad. Note that she’s teething. I thought maybe cmpa but not sure I keep asking for help from doctors they’re not helping because I’m a young mum they act like I’m silly. She needs help either way if it’s very bad reflux or cmpa. Shes had thrush and nappy rash a lot.
She has problems sleeping, she sleeps about 6-10 Hours if I’m lucky. Never naps during day. It’s horrible. I struggle with postpartum depression and I can’t take it anymore i don’t know what To do anymore I need help. I’ve tried everything.

OP posts:
leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 21:05

When I touch her tummy to massage her she also tenses up, turns red and sometimes she cries
She hates being on her back sometimes she’ll scream but most time just cries. I HAVE to sleep her on her side as that’s the only way she’ll sleep.

When she sleeps she does something that tells me somethings wrong with her tummy, she will breathe rapidly and scrunch up her face.

Please someone help me. I’ve tried everything, feel like a failure. I don’t know whay To do anymore
She’s on SMA little steps.

Also tried gaviscon which made it worse.

Has the gp never prescribed reflux meds although it sounds like you may need a dairy free milk but soya would not be the first choice. Do you have a health visitor you could talk to?

Bluebelltulip · 18/12/2020 21:11

Sounds like CMPA, there is a Facebook group called CMPA support main group which is good. Many babies with CMPA also react to soya (my son is worse with soya than milk!) So wysoy isn't a good idea. Could you try a different GP or HV?

ISeeTheLight · 18/12/2020 21:13

Join the CMPA support Facebook group. Lots of people with similar experience there. Keep pushing with your GP, it's really tough x

Vicky1989x · 18/12/2020 21:18

My baby is 7 months old now and was exactly the same as yours - I feel for you, it’s exhausting! She’s still has her moments now but she’s a lot better than she used to be, it started to get a bit better around 5 months.

How long did you try the gaviscon for? My baby is still sick with gaviscon, but it definitely helps with the pain. It took a few days before I noticed a difference though.

If it is CMPA, Wysoy milk won’t be much use as most babies who are allergic to dairy are also allergic to soya.

Mine is also on SMA (but SMA pro) and I’ve read that SMA can make babies very windy (mine is a wind bag, can get 20+ burps between feedings Grin)- have you tried a different first infant milk like Aptamil or Cow and Gate?

leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 21:23

I have tried aptamil first which was very bad, especially the comfort milk. I have also tried cow&gate but it’s not vege/halal. I’d need one that is because of my faith

No the doctors have not helped me. As I’m only 20 they think I don’t know about babies because she’s my first. They tell me every baby cries and it’s normal. I’ve asked for help many times.

What formula that is vegetarian or halal would be best for cmpa then, please help

Does it not sound like lactose intolerance because I don’t want to get one with lactose and then she’s still the same
She’s in so much pain it’s horrible.

Thank you so much mums for the help

@Vicky1989x @Bluebelltulip @ISeeTheLight @dementedpixie @TreacleHart xx

dementedpixie · 18/12/2020 21:28

All the cows milk or goats milk based ones will contain lactose as thats the sugar in milk (including breast milk). It sounds like your issue could be with the protein in milk e.g. casein/whey.

If you wanted to trial lactose free then SMA LF has the lactose broken down but still contains cows milk protein

leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 21:34

If she does have cmpa would that not make it worse? @dementedpixie
So sorry to keep bothering you x

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 18/12/2020 21:49

Yes it could. It was just in case you wanted a lactose free option. Its crap noone is listening to you Sad

leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 21:52

It’s horrible to feel alone. I will have to change doctors. Do you think nutramigen formula would help?

OP posts:
Vicky1989x · 18/12/2020 21:52

Lactose intolerance is rare in babies, it sounds more like CMPA.

My doctor also treated me the same, just kept telling me ‘babies are sick, babies cry’ but I asked for a referral to a paediatrician. Maybe try that?

I found this chart which might be useful as to know which dairy free formulas are halal/vegetarian.

leahmaysimmonds · 18/12/2020 22:10

Thank you very much. I saw about sma althera, does anyone have any experience with that

TreacleHart · 19/12/2020 07:11

I agree with pushing to see a paediatric specialist as well. You need to get to the bottom of it.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/12/2020 07:18

It's worth trying before any soy based milks.
Daisychainsandglitter · 19/12/2020 07:29

Hi OP I couldn't read and run when you are having such an awful time. Both my DD's had CMPA and particularly with DD1 it was hell. I must have tried every bottle, teat, anti colic medication under the sun and I felt so low.
It dues sound very much like your DD has CMPA. I wouldn't try wysoy but would push your GP for a paediatric referral as soon as possible and a prescription formula for CMPA babies where the milk proteins are broken down.
There is a scale with how broken down the milk proteins in these formulas are. Often Drs will put babies on the least broken down formula and then switch formulas if the baby is still uncomfortable and experiencing symptoms.Nutramigen is somewhere in the middle of the scale. This didn't work for my DDs who both had to have Neocate which is an amino acid formula.
Once they were on Neocate. It was honestly like a magic wand was waved and my babies were transformed.
If your GP is unsympathetic, I would consider purchasing Nutramigen or Neocate online and keeping a diary to see if your DD's symptoms improve for you to show your GP.
I'm so sorry you are going through this OP. You have my every sympathy it is so hard. I hope you and your baby feel better soon. Thanks

Daisychainsandglitter · 19/12/2020 07:32

My DD's have used pretty much most of the milks in the chart. DD2 had SMA Althera for awhile but it wasn't broken down enough and she was still struggling so she was moved onto Neocate.

whodoesntlovejelly · 19/12/2020 07:49

Hi op just wanted to sympathise my gp didn't take me seriously either as I was a young mum too, believe that you know what's best for your child and push for a second opinion. My ds (now grown up) was eventually prescribed whysoy and thrived on it

leahmaysimmonds · 19/12/2020 09:28

Thank you girls I’ve looked into neocate and I would want to put her on that. Waiting for a call consultation from out of hours
Hope they do something
