Party food which is on 4 for 3 offer iirc. Gastropub meals for the freezer - the chicken in red wine is lovely. Tins of chunky chicken and mince to get through the first few months of Brexit reality in the New Year.

isitsnowingyet · 18/12/2020 10:47

Ooooh - now that's more like it - thanks for that @wowfudge

Depends if you need Xmas day stuff.
Nut platter thing £8 is very nice, Yule log cake £20 is delicious (almost finished it) veg sides are normally good.
If not Xmas then try the Thai takeaway box £10 and the liver and bacon or chicken broccoli pie ready meals.
(Sorry for being silly)

wowfudge · 18/12/2020 10:53

M&S are taking bookings for their foodhalls in some shops - they're managing numbers in them. So you might want to either book a slot or go after 8pm in the evening.

Also worth looking at the fancy ingredients shelves - they stock some interesting stuff.

The ‘our best ever’ lasagne is really the best ever lasagne I have eaten
Second the 4 for 3 range (the pulled pork crumpets are amazing)
Lovely gastropub bits
I like their sushi
Normal shopping stuff for bits (lovely fruit, veg etc) just adds an extra layer of luxury
I would avoid their tiramisu though

spagbog5 · 18/12/2020 10:56

2x bottles Vouvray
Smoked salmon
Small cheese platter
Fresh bakery bread
Charcuterie selection
Would be my choice Wink

SlippersForFlippers · 18/12/2020 10:57

Brockmans gin, the biscuits that have loads of chocolate on and some veg crisps.

BrieAndChilli · 18/12/2020 10:59

i would go for the treat stuff you dont normally buy elsewhere. pointless spending it on fruit and veg that costs more than other places but us effectively the same.

If wanting xmas stuff they do little tapas type stuff - 3 for £7, i like the honey mini sausages, little cheese rolls, prawns in a spicy tomatoe sauce etc. then some nice biscuits/cakes/chocolate.

or spend it all on wine and gin!

or they do some nice meal boxes - indian, thai etc £10 for meals for 2 or they do the dine in for £12 or whatever it is.

I think their champagne is on offer at present. None of that Cava nonsense. Their party nibbles are great as well and always seem to be on offer. Or a luxury turkey? Their trifles are lovely too.

isitsnowingyet · 18/12/2020 11:00

Grin @TheQueef - no worries

This isn't really a serious thread - more like a 'what is your favourite treats from M and S' sort of a thread.

I should point out that sweet treats are out of the window for me - but definitely interested in a nut platter - sounds intriguing.

We live in the back end of beyond, so not sure if I need to book a slot @wowfudge - it was pretty empty last time I popped in.

hotchocdrinker · 18/12/2020 11:42

Chinese 'takeaway' meal in a box. £10 and does 2 people generously. Raspberry royale for pudding and some beef crisps for a snack!

WankPuffins · 18/12/2020 12:41

They are doing the most gorgeous woodland Yule log this year. That would be on my list.
