Okay ladies I bet this has been done to dealth! But I’m helping with the cooking this year (last two years Dd was so little and I was busy with her) and it got me thinking we make every type of potato!

So I’m wondering what’s it like in all your houses 🏡 Xmas Grin

Here’s my list: 🎄🎄🎄

Roast leg of lamb, stuffed with Rosemary, mint and rubbed with an oil concoction, which my sister keeps a secret! Last year was Turkey...
Dolphin while potatoes (I can’t spell it 🤣 so I’m leaving it this way)
Roast potatoes with goose fat
Mashed potatoes with chives and cream butter
New potatoes in garlic butter
Roast peppers
Creamed leeks (so leeks cooked in cream)
Peas sweet corn and onions in a mix
Honey carrots 🥕
Stuffing usually mixed with sausage and home made (traditionally a bit burnt)
Pigs in blankets (always shop bought)
Yorkshire puddings (controversial!)

Okay ladies show some Christmas Spirit, and give us ideas for years to come!

Bet I’ve missed something off my list and will add when I remember it. It’s so much food isn’t it! Madness over one meal lol 😂

We’re having:
Goose
Roast potatoes
Parsnips (Aunt Bessie’s as she does them better than me)
Carrots/broccoli/green beans/peas (probably not all but not sure which)
Red cabbage
Cranberry and chestnut stuffing

I’m currently at a loss for what to make as a starter. Past three years I’ve done prawn cocktail which everybody loves but I want to do something different. So far I’ve been through three different ideas and I’m still not sure. If I don’t pick soon I won’t have ingredients!

Same goes for pudding. I’d like to try (for the first time every) apple or peach cobbler. We’ve never had a cobbler but generally love anything that goes with my custard.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’m cooking for 6 so will be watching this thread to see what you’re all doing Grin

SweetieP1e · 16/12/2020 09:27

OP, your menu sounds fantastic! IMO yorkshires should be served with every roast and cooking something in cream can only make it betterXmas Grin

Breastfeedingworries · 16/12/2020 19:14

Hi both! Wow this thread wasn’t as popular as I’d hoped 🙈😂

Red cabbage! Knew I’d forgotten something.

Okay to sauce things up I’ll tell a secret with every post 🤫

the Yorkshire’s aren’t homemade, I once snorted cocaine!

Maybe another vegetable?
Maybe Yorkshire puddings

lavenderlou · 16/12/2020 20:42

Turkey
Stuffing - might make my own with sausagemeat and chestnuts or I might just buy a pack of readymade but I like it to be a sausagemeat one.
Pigs in Blankets
Roast Potatoes
Carrots (Chantenay)
Roast Parsnips
Red Cabbage
Sprouts
Yorkshire puds
Cauliflower Cheese

I wouldn't normally do the last two but DC2 is fussy and these are two things that she will eat.

On the side we have gravy, bread sauce and cranberry sauce.

@lavenderlou

Turkey Stuffing - might make my own with sausagemeat and chestnuts or I might just buy a pack of readymade but I like it to be a sausagemeat one. Pigs in Blankets Roast Potatoes Carrots (Chantenay) Roast Parsnips Red Cabbage Sprouts Yorkshire puds Cauliflower Cheese

I wouldn't normally do the last two but DC2 is fussy and these are two things that she will eat.

On the side we have gravy, bread sauce and cranberry sauce.

Exactly the same as this. Historically my family never had Yorkshires or cauli cheese but DH insists on it these days. We cook the cauli cheese the night before and have with Xmas ham.

Starter this year scallops and prawns in white wine. Afters is figgy pudding or some sort of supermarket cheesecake/chocolate confection.

RosesforMama · 16/12/2020 20:54

Main: beef , and a 3 bird roast
Roast and mashed potatoes
Carrots, peas, roast parsnips, broccoli
Pigs in blankets
Yorkshire puddings
Stuffing balls and gravy, plus horseradish and cranberry sauce.

Pudding will be christmas pudding or white chocolate and cherry cheesecake.

MaelyssQ · 16/12/2020 20:58

I love the idea of dolphin while potatoes. Grin

We're having a 5 bird roast, with roasties, mash, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, corn on the cob and sprouts fried with bacon bits, pigs in blankets, bread sauce, yorkshire puddings, cranberry sauce, gravy.

Scallops to start and Yule log to finish.

Plsv87 · 16/12/2020 20:59

Roast turkey
Pigs in blankets (home made with sage)
Stuffing (sage and onion, out of packet)
Bread sauce (packet)
Cranberry sauce
Gravy
Roast potatoes (garlic and rosemary)
Honey roast carrots and parsnips
Peas
Brussel sprouts (probably sauted with leaks)

And I think I might do mashed potatoes this year too although I don't normally. Also will do some Yorkshire puddings this year as the kids love them but I dont normally.

Plsv87 · 16/12/2020 21:00

Home made gingerbread cake with gingerbread christmas trees on top for dessert, Crement to drink!

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 16/12/2020 21:03

3 families forming a bubble . 12 adults , 1 toddler

Prawn cocktail starter

Turkey crown , roast beef and gammon cooking in Coca-Cola

Pigs in blankets, sausage meat cranberry stuffing , dried sage onion stuffing balls , sausage meat wrapped in bacon parcel

Roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, bacon brussel sprouts, glazed carrots , red cabbage

Gravy, bread sauce, cranberry sauce

Mince pies, trifle, Yule log, raspberry pavlova, vienetta, baileys cream , double cream

Matchmakers, after eights, baileys

This is obscene once I write it down but all 3 families will split the leftovers for the all important Boxing Day to new year leftovers meals

Didicat · 16/12/2020 21:09

They are called dolphin-nose potatoes in my house Grin

For the first time in 22 years at the grand old age of 40, I will not be at parents or in-laws for Christmas so sadly have to cook myself rather than slob on the sofa and drink gin all day.
