Just that really. I'm trying to find a nice recipe/ready made thing that is special enough for Christmas dinner but has no nuts or mushrooms!! Does such a thing exist?

I'd ask them what they would eat/like. Straight up me!

Look, I know you want to cater well, but sometimes it is just not possible without knowing, especially if you are not veggie yourself.

They might be happy with just veggies. I am!
Not interested in meat-shaped veggies. Give me a bowl of stuffing and (veggie) gravy and I'm happy.

Extra roasties - a lot of extra roasties.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 15/12/2020 21:12

Quorn roast

EnPoinsettia · 15/12/2020 21:14

Maple toast butternut squash

Choccyp1g · 15/12/2020 21:14

Butternut squash dauphinoise.

EnPoinsettia · 15/12/2020 21:14

Maple roast!

DipSwimSwoosh · 15/12/2020 21:15

Lentil bake.

SusannaSpider · 15/12/2020 21:20

Wellington has mushrooms (I detest mushrooms too). And probably no nuts requested, to avoid the dreaded nut roast, which went out with the 70s.
I'm making myself a version of this, but with fresh beetroot added.

I'm never sure why people are bemused by cooking a veggie meal, surely you don't eat meat for every meal, every day?🤷 Although if I'm eating at other people's houses I am happy just to eat the side dishes as I don't want to be a pain.

SusannaSpider · 15/12/2020 21:23

I'd be wary of the fake meat too, Quorn makes me ill and a lot of the other stuff is rank. Although Linda Mc's red onion and rosemary sausages are OK (and the stuffing which is virtually the same).

SusannaSpider · 15/12/2020 21:26

Sorry, I look like I'm off on one...But the Goodwill pie mentioned above isn't vegan, although it looks lush and I'm very tempted.

Hidinge · 15/12/2020 21:27

Baked Camembert?

SusannaSpider · 15/12/2020 21:31

And sorry, I've just reread and it says veggie, not vegan, my bad, I'm knackered and I'm away to my bed now!

TheLifeAndDeathBrigade · 15/12/2020 21:32

Air?

Something halloumi based or goats cheese?

Maybe ask them for some ideas if you're close enough?

DontAskForMedicalAdviceOnMars · 15/12/2020 21:41

This looks impressive & simple

If that is too big

It’s seems everything without mushrooms & nuts is butternut & pastry!

I was veggie for a decade, I was always perfectly happy with the veg & roasties, while everyone else had turkey and gravy, as long as there was cauliflower cheese so it wasn’t too dry.

lastqueenofscotland · 15/12/2020 21:43

Happy pear has a recepie for brocolli pie which is lovely
Baked Camembert with a cranberry jelly
Caramelised onion and goat cheese tart
Lentil “meat loaf”

jelly79 · 15/12/2020 21:44

Roast cauliflower

Vintagegoth · 15/12/2020 21:45

My Mum used to make us a thing she called a vegetable crown. Shortcrust pasty filled with a ratatouile style vegetable filling topped with cheese and baked.

Phyzzy · 15/12/2020 21:45

I did bbq jackfruit one year. The none veggie guest snaffled it.

Alternista · 15/12/2020 21:47

I’ve made the goodwill pie before, it was lovely. Have bookmarked several of those Olive recipes to try, too!

Pastry, cheese, butternut.... who needs meat??

RiaOverTheRainbow · 15/12/2020 21:51

Goat cheese and onion tartlet

hopelessbusiness · 15/12/2020 21:51

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's for my 18 year old daughter who is recently veggie and so wouldn't really know what to suggest herself!

is my go-to for vegetarian Christmases, but it has nuts, and is loads of work. Worth it though. I skip the sauce to save effort.

Or have a look at

for lots of options. I make the Mini Cheesy Lentil Loaves in silicone cupcake moulds. They are lovely with lots of gravy.
