What have you achieved / survived this year?

Just thinking back over this year which has been absolutely brutal for us and so many, not just because of COVID but other things too. I’ve been trying to think of the things I’ve achieved this year to focus on those instead of all the stress and worry.

I think all of us have achieved something this year, even if it’s just getting through this

What are you proud of from this year?
Come and share the things you’ve survived and succeeded in this year so we can all celebrate the big and little things. I want to tell you all how brilliant you are, because we all need to hear it I think!

Hmmmm, I didn't think I achieved anything this year, but then I thought back to a very hot Bank Holiday Friday, me and my wife sat in the garden with very large glasses of red, getting pleasantly pis.. I mean merry and me..... colouring her hair bright red!! I smashed it and she was a happy lady!! 😆

SinkGirl · 13/12/2020 13:04

Good for you. I did my first mens haircut on DH too, and it was not terrible, which is an achievement in itself!

I came in the top 1% of learners on Duolingo and emailed the certificate to my Mum. Getting v.good at French!

Diddlysquatty · 13/12/2020 13:06

I (pretty much, with the odd relapse) cracked a 30 year habit of nail biting

I also learnt the ukelele

SinkGirl · 13/12/2020 13:06

That’s awesome! I’ve done a bit of Duolingo French myself and was surprised how much I remember from school. Hope you can take your skills to France soon!

Bigger all really! I keep seeing social media posts of people who have learned a new skill, taken up something amazing or run a marathon... 🙁

That’s so great - I was an obsessive nail biter too but quit about 10 years ago and now my nails are really strong. I actually own nail polish now! Hope you can get a lovely manicure as a treat. Great work on the ukelele too - I’ve just been learning some Christmas songs on the piano which I’ve always wanted to do, it’s so nice to be able to play music.

I’m quite jealous of those people too - if COVID had happened pre-kids I would definitely have been learning to paint during lockdown as I’ve always wanted to.

I've lost weight. I'm eating way more healthily and feel much happier in my own skin.

I've managed to finally break the chains of past abuse holding me to my ex H - the pandemic gave me that opportunity to not have him popping up every five minutes to cause problems as he was living abroad and couldn't come back. He's now blocked everywhere and my teens communicate with him without reference to me.

wizzywig · 13/12/2020 13:14

Finished uni!!

Amazing on both counts. I have definitely not lost weight during lockdown - that must have been really hard, well done to you. And so happy to hear you’re rid of the bastard. Good for you!

I've taken up wild swimming and continue to swim in the sea 2 days a week at least. I've successfully cut mine, DH's and DS's hair since March.
We've survived MIL going into a care home with severe and quick moving dementia and our cat got hit by a car and eventually lost his leg.
I haven't thought of my achievements much, its nice to have a positive balance.

Congratulations! I bet this year wasn’t easy, well done for finishing!

I’ve lost a stone and started a course in the hope of a career change in 2022.

Wow - that sounds amazing. I hate the cold so not sure I would manage this, but I bet it’s wonderful. So sorry to hear about your MIL - I’ve been there and it’s so hard. And your poor cat too - what a tough time you’ve had, well done on surviving that.

You are all brilliant and I hope people tell you that enough!

Lost some weight, took up cycling, found a new job. It's been far from easy this year but there are some good achievements.

OhToBeASeahorse · 13/12/2020 13:21

I managed to start running 5k outside whilst pregnant- I've never managed it before, always had to be in a gym for me.

I had a baby

That’s all amazing, especially in such challenging times - you should be really proud of yourself.

Wow - I can’t run 5 metres, I’m so impressed! And I work in maternity and know that this was not an easy year to have a baby. You have had to do this at such a difficult time. I hope you’re both well!

Got a new job.
Supported my teenager through a bereavement.
Passed a qualification.
Discovered new parts of the UK I hadn't been to before.
Made the summer holidays good - my DCs said it was a lot better than they thought it would be.

MadisonErin · 13/12/2020 13:28

Lost 4 & 1\2 stone x

CandyLeBonBon · 13/12/2020 13:29

Achieved a first class honours degree in spite of being locked down as a lone parent with 3 kids at home.

snowstorm2012 · 13/12/2020 13:29

I got married in March which was well-timed as it was booked a year in advance.

As my hours were shortened I did the WSET Levels 1 and 2 in Wine which was fab.

I've also put all of my weight back on which I lost for the wedding as a result of said course 😂
