DC names on cards, in order of age, right?

cliffdiver · 12/12/2020 20:17

A friend mentioned today she does DC names in random order.

So,

From her, DH, DC2, DC1, DC3 in one card and then her, DH, DC3, DC2, DC1 in another card.

I was Confused

It's always me, DH, DD1, DD2 in that order.

I have always listed names by age, too.

JingleJohnsJulie · 12/12/2020 20:21

By age is the law and if it isn't a law, it bloody well ought to be your friend is nuts

Clymene · 12/12/2020 20:22

I a,ways write them in age order. I suppose I'd expect them to be signed the same way although I've not thought about it tbh

Pipandmum · 12/12/2020 20:22

Yes I do it by age.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 12/12/2020 20:23

Of course !

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 12/12/2020 20:23

Does't it depend on what order the names sound best in?
What do you do about the grown up names in the card?

VienneseWhirligig · 12/12/2020 20:23

Always by age, and the same with adults too (giver or recipient). Apart from my parents - Dad and Mum sounds wrong.

BashfulClam · 12/12/2020 20:23

Dies it batter and why is the youngest always the bottom of the list?

happytoday73 · 12/12/2020 20:24

Yep by age.
I also write my husbands name first on his family cards and my name first on my family. My brother writes his wife first... Which I always find odd.

bonbonours · 12/12/2020 20:25

Always in age order yes.....which means with three kids the youngest usually ends up on the next line!

Our neighbours sign Xmas cards from them and the three dogs (as in three separate dog names) lol

Nonamesavail · 12/12/2020 20:25

Always age order because that's how we adapted lol once we were me, OH and DS then we were me OH DS and DD etc

wetotter · 12/12/2020 20:25

My order:

Adults
DC by age
Dogs by size

dappledsunshine · 12/12/2020 20:26

Yes absolutely in age order!

SupaTrooper · 12/12/2020 20:26

She's crazy!

Although, when my two dc are with their four cousins we sometimes make them line up in different orders. So we will shout 'age order' or 'height order' or 'month of birth' or 'next birthday'.

They probably hate us.

positivelynegative · 12/12/2020 20:27

No. It’s not fair
I always switch ours about.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/12/2020 20:29

Me and DH depending on who it's addressed to with the closest connection first. Then DS1 fits on the same line
&
DS2 (who has a longer name and looks better with a line to himself)
Grin

Floralnomad · 12/12/2020 20:30

I always do it in age order and I always put me first , I get lots of cards though where people put their husbands name first .

JanewaysBun · 12/12/2020 20:42

I always change the kids.
So card 1
Me DH dc1 dc2

Card 2.
Me DH dx2 dc1

But I am weird!

MothershipG · 12/12/2020 20:44

Children and dogs by age (you can't do dogs by size! ShockShockShock)

SausageRoll2020 · 12/12/2020 20:47

I agree with @positivelynegative (also the youngest in my family).

Random order is much fairer, that way the same person isn't always last. When writing a card to friends with children I always make a point of writing the children's names in random order (which obviously means that sometimes they will be in age order and sometimes not).

For adults we normally put my name first for my family and my husband's name first for his family.

Weekends · 12/12/2020 20:50

I make it my mission to always switch it about! I sometimes put my daughter 's name before mine on cards and often switch it about when addressing other people, e.g. Kids first, person I have known longest goes last instead of the other way around. I change it about. It's because I think it's not fair to be always first/last/middle and hopefully shows people they are all valued. No idea what other people think! Been doing it a few years.
Today I wrote a card to a family who have just had a baby and I addressed it to Big brother, mum and dad.

cliffdiver · 12/12/2020 20:51

@positivelynegative

No. It’s not fair I always switch ours about.
Interestingly, my friend is also the youngest sibling.

My family / friends - me first.

DH family / friends - him first.

Ours is by age and we slot in the step-kids in the correct place even though they don’t live with us.

boredwithfoodprob · 12/12/2020 20:57

I remember my parents were VERY right on and ALWAYS signed off cards starting with my sister (youngest) and ending with my dad (oldest) I sometimes do the same.
