DC names on cards, in order of age, right?

A friend mentioned today she does DC names in random order.

So,

From her, DH, DC2, DC1, DC3 in one card and then her, DH, DC3, DC2, DC1 in another card.

I was Confused

It's always me, DH, DD1, DD2 in that order.

Age order. The only perk to being the oldest.

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 12/12/2020 22:28

Age order:

Me,
DD1, DD2
& DS

DS & I have longer names so need a line of our own or it looks daft DD1 is 20 & needs cards of her own but then she'd have to pay for them Hmm

I put my youngest first and my eldest last because he can write his own name but its huge and needs the whole bottom of the card to do it.

UrghThisIsHard · 12/12/2020 22:32

My name was always written first - before my older brother’s. It just sounds better that way round because of our particular names.

Camomila · 12/12/2020 22:35

(Its not 20 letters long, its that he's only learnt to write in the last couple of months)

Dc in order of age, yes, having just done family cards.

Age order unless it’s a child’s (who we know well as a family) birthday card where one of the children is better friends with said child. Sometimes I’ll put that child after DH and I even if it’s not dc1...this happens very rarely though!

I put my husband first on cards to his family or people that he is better friends with...

My husband is older than me and alphabetically would come before me so it does make sense to put him first anyway. The children are usually dc1, dc2, dc3, dc4.

When we had 2 dogs then I would put the bigger dog first even though he was a year younger than the little one.. I think they just sounded better that way anyway..

I put children in age order too.

I usually write my name first, but put my husband's first to people who are mainly his friends rather than mine.

He has to write two cards himself: his ex-wife and his (adult) son. He used to write three, but his mother died earlier this year.

No. It’s not fair
I always switch ours about.

Same! I hated always being the last, so I make sure I not only mix DC when I sign but I also mix up the names of the children I'm writing to so the youngest isn't always last Grin

BashfulClam · 13/12/2020 12:41

I hated being the youngest, last on the card list, smallest bedroom, very few baby photos and none on my own always had my brother too, anything I did wasn’t an achievement as my brother had already done it, hand me down BOYS clothes....mix it up and live bc a little. Put the littlest first once in a while, it might seem small but then children are small.

@Aquamarine1029

I have always listed names by age, too.
It should be done by age - the oldest child first. How unthinking to do it in any other way.
Witchend · 13/12/2020 14:33

DD2 once wrote the cards. She decided to write them in a different order. She'd just had a row with dd1 for context. She wrote:

DD2, Ds, Me, Dh & DD1.

Several people* fed back to us that they were initially confused by the couple "DD2 & ds", wondering how they knew them.

*the rest of them probably never worked it out so couldn't feed it back. Grin

I always order the kids names by age!! I also put my name first unless they are for DH family.
