Do you eat anything after your main meal?

I’ve got into such a bad habit of snacking on biscuits after our dinner on an evening and really need to stop. My portion sizes are fine (I think) and I try to eat fairly healthily but it’s like my brain just can’t comprehend that I’m full. Can anyone else just not NOT have a dessert?!

I might have something sweet in the evening. I don’t have supper every night - I’ve seen people on here saying they’d have a couple of slices of cheese on toast for supper which seems like a whole extra meal to me.

CoronaIsWatching · 10/12/2020 17:53

Rarely, but I normally have tea between 8 and 9pm so much much time after anyway. What time do you have it?

NeedSomeHelpWithThisOnePlease · 10/12/2020 17:53

I never have a dessert. I don't have a sweet tooth and never feel the need for anything after a meal. I dont snack in the evenings either.

TwinklyLightsandBaubles · 10/12/2020 17:56

We always have to have something sweet after our main meal! Usually a fruit pastille lolly as we are lolly mad here. More recently we then follow it with a few minstrels or maltesers which is a habit we really need to kick!
We tend to eat around 8-8.30pm so not especially early. If we had an early tea I think we would end up snacking even more later on.

TinselToedElf · 10/12/2020 17:58

We don't but we don't eat until 8.30/9pm.

Aquamarine1029 · 10/12/2020 17:59

I never have dessert and I rarely ever have anything after dinner. I think most people smack due to boredom, not because they're hungry.

Inextremis · 10/12/2020 18:00

I include two packs of three individual cheesecakes in our weekly shop - so DH and I have a dessert three times a week, the other four days we don't bother. DH sometimes has a couple of snack-size chocolate bars later on, but I don't. We have dinner around 6 pm - am just about to dish it up now (chicken curry tonight!).

MynephewR · 10/12/2020 18:02

Always! We eat dinner at about 5.30 usually so are hungry again by 8ish. But I definitely eat the wrong stuff, always tell myself that I will have some cooked chicken or a low calorie yoghurt but it's almost always ice cream or chocolate Grin

dudsville · 10/12/2020 18:03

Aw, I never used to but my oh comes from a family who have pudding every night and sweets in the day as a usual daily occurrence! I'm now perimenopausal, a stone heavier than I'd like and clawing back my old habits. Sweets and puddings were special occasions, we didn't have a biscuit tin when I was coming up. Occasionally mum made sweets and they were a treat.

cushioncovers · 10/12/2020 18:05

Depends what it is if it was soup and toast at 5.30pm then yes I'd be hungry again by 8pm if like tonight I'm having a substantial meal at Round7pm then no.

reluctantbrit · 10/12/2020 18:10

We eat dinner at 7pm/7.30pm. Once in a while I get chocolate dessert or someone wants a yoghurt but maybe twice a months.

We do have nuts or crisps at home every now and then and will eat them after dinner if we watch a movie.

MrsDThomas · 10/12/2020 18:11

I rarely snack. Im a light eater but I hardly eat after 6pm. I feel it sits in my belly if i eat late hence why I hate going out for meals. I eat the odd biscuit but thats it.

user1493413286 · 10/12/2020 18:14

99% of the time I like to have something sweet in the evenings after dinner whether that’s a cup of tea and biscuit or piece of chocolate but once I’ve had that I stop

Dollywilde · 10/12/2020 18:17

We never have pudding here, I just don’t have a sweet tooth. That said I’m partial to a glass of wine on the sofa most evenings which has the same effect calorie wise Wine

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/12/2020 18:22

Very occasionally have homemade popcorn but never desert unless we have people over - been a while Hmm - and apart from popcorn I don’t snack after supper.

soschreibfaul · 10/12/2020 18:25

No, and I eat quite early, always by 6pm.

I sometimes have a mug of tea or a glass of wine in the evening but that's it.

CarolinaWeeper · 10/12/2020 18:34

I never used to, growing up we'd only have a pudding once in a blue moon but DH has a really sweet tooth and has something sweet in the evening most nights so it's become a really bad habit.

We eat dinner around 6pm and I'm trying to stop snacking after that and just allow myself a sweet treat in the evening once a week, so I've been having a cup of tea instead which does help.

livefornaps · 10/12/2020 18:37

After my slice of steamed cabbage at 5.30pm I am just absolutely stuffed for the duration of the 23 hour fast that follows

ArtemisBean · 10/12/2020 18:39

We eat early at 5.30/6 but we also go to bed at 9/9.30. DH will always have a pudding right after dinner and I have a weak hot chocolate about an hour afterwards. I do snack big-time in the morning though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/12/2020 18:42

Very rarely. There’s nothing in so I’d have to go out again.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 10/12/2020 18:43

Unfortunately yes, I have the same bad habit. Nuts, popcorn, cheese and crackers, biscuits and tea... I really need some other way of rewarding myself for completing the duties of another day.

isawthat · 10/12/2020 18:44

DH and I will probably snack a little bit after tea. The DC might have tea and biscuits

Europilgrim · 10/12/2020 18:44

No, but we eat at 7.30 - 8 ish. I never feel hungry afterwards. In fact I don't feel that hungry at dinner anyway - at lunch I'm ravenous.

Buttercream22 · 10/12/2020 18:48

Yes, well most nights. It's normally something around 100cals.... penguin biscuit, apple, something like that. I have a very sweet tooth.

MysweetAudrina · 10/12/2020 18:49

When I first read your post I thought it said stuffed cabbage and found myself thinking greedy bitch but steamed cabbage is fine of course. I tend to favour a stalk of broccoli myself.
