Secret Sister

Is anyone doing this? I got involved via Facebook. My friend was organising it & gave me the address of her boyfriend’s Mum. I had to send a present worth up to £5 anonymously. I sent 2 pairs of Christmas earrings made by another friend. Today I received a parcel of lovely treats which really brightened my day.

I'm pretty sure this is the same as MLM.

MiddleClassProblem · 09/12/2020 18:47

I have no idea what this is. I thought you were referring to secret Santa.

MaverickDanger · 09/12/2020 18:49

It is a MLM - it’s a pyramid scheme scam. Someone at the bottom doesn’t get anything.

LarsErickssong · 09/12/2020 18:50

Scam

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 09/12/2020 18:57

If you receive more than you’ve sent eventually someone further on has to miss out.

Grooticle · 09/12/2020 19:01

Scam.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 09/12/2020 19:02

Thanks but I won't be jumping on this scam wagon.

Rainbowshine · 09/12/2020 19:04

Thanks for the unpaid advert for an MLM scam. It’s really brightened up my day.

DryRoastPeanut · 09/12/2020 19:08

I thought this was going to be about discovering your dad had had an affair and you have a secret half sister just 6 months younger than you.

Your scam thread was decidedly disappointing.

katy1213 · 09/12/2020 19:08

Chain letters. To get anything back, you have to be in at the start - otherwise, within about a week, even if nobody breaks the chain it will outstrip the entire UK population.

Me too 😂

Absolute classic pyramid scheme, but replacing money with gifts. How anyone with half a brain can fall for this shit in 2020, with all the information at their fingertips, is a complete mystery to me.

EternalOptimist7 · 09/12/2020 19:16

Oh dear. My friend who initially messaged me is lovely so I’m sure she doesn’t know it’s a scam. I was quite happy to send my parcel, worth less than a fiver actually, and if I don’t receive any more presents I’m fine with that too. I thought it was just a nice thing to do to cheer folks up after a horrible year.

Perhaps I’m a bit naive but that doesn’t make me a bad person

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/12/2020 19:23

No of course you're not a bad person. Naive, too trusting perhaps. You had to give your address to effectively a bunch of strangers, along with your name.

It won’t cheer up the people who get nothing though 🙁

EternalOptimist7 · 09/12/2020 19:27

As far as I know, only one person has my address. And the parcel didn’t have my surname on it.
JaniceBattersby you could have posted more kindly

No I didn't.
