Thought I’d set this up as we don’t seem to have one. Please delete if we do and I’ve missed it.

@MarieVanGoethem thank you for link, I'm worried about the stress to baby and myself, I don't take things like this well, so fully expecting to cry in consultation.

@TheHobbitMum I'm not sure, while they can't get rid of me due to being pregnant, as it's cause they need to reduce hours and staff, they can make me redundant if they go the right way about it.

They wanted me to come in for the consultation, I presume as I'm shielding I'm allowed to say no to that.

TheHobbitMum · 07/01/2021 19:16

@TOWGA I'd give ACAS a call if I were you before you agree to anything regarding going in so you know exactly where you stand legally. I personally wouldn't go in while shielding as that goes against the medical advice and them asking you too seems daft to me!
Hopefully ACAS won't be too busy and you can get all the info you need to make a fully informed choice

MarieVanGoethem · 07/01/2021 19:24

@TOWGA
I’m so SO sorry, it’s absolutely wretched.
You can - & should - absolutely decline any face-to-face meeting because you’re shielding; it was totally inappropriate for them to request it. Maybe offer to have a Zoom-type-meeting? Have you a Union Rep you could get to attend “with” you? It’d be ok them to prove that they’re not discriminating against you - they’ll be choosing how to reduce their staffing levels & they can apply to the furlough scheme to retain you, so unless they can come up with some extraordinarily good reasons...

Utter UTTER swampmonsters.

Phlip · 07/01/2021 19:27

Just spotted this thread. Last time I got emails and a letter very quickly. This time nothing yet?

TOWGA · 07/01/2021 19:29

@MarieVanGoethem I'm already furlough- the area manager had no idea I was pregnant or shielding! If I get made redundant, I ideally would like another 8 weeks before I go (which I won't get as notice period is 4 weeks) as I can then get smp, otherwise I won't! That's more my worry I think atm is baby and maternity!

TheHobbitMum · 07/01/2021 20:18

@Phlip you can get your letter here if you've had one last time www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/people-at-higher-risk/shielding-note/

MarieVanGoethem · 07/01/2021 20:52

I’m getting my first dose of the vaccine (no idea which, but presumably the Oxford as being done at a GP surgery) tomorrow afternoon Grin Really really wasn’t expecting it to be so soon...

@TOWGA
That sounds... really dodgy, frankly. I hope you can get things sorted.

Peachered · 07/01/2021 21:02

@TOWGA Have a look through pregnant and screwed on facebook.

Redundancy has set rules around it as well. My colleague was made redundant just before she gave birth (She was furloughed, I am pretty sure she was till on furlough and not maternity leave at this point but not 100%), they had to pay her her entire maternity pay for the period she had proposed to have off.

Peachered · 07/01/2021 21:04

@MarieVanGoethem Great news about the vaccine!

Just got another shielding letter, very sad to read that it says "Even if you have had both doses of the vaccine, you should continue to follow this shielding advice until further notice as we continue to assess the impact of vaccination among all groups. " Feel like freedom has been taken away and shielding will be continuing way past February 21st because of the twelve week delay between both doses now.

Peachered · 07/01/2021 21:07

@TOWGA I went for a settlement by the way - I could have taken them to tribunal but it was a four year wait - I was in very similar shoes but knew I could pick up part-time work elsewhere.

Do get legal advice, ACAS, Union, Pregnant then Screwed, Citizens Advice Legal Team (but don't tell the Union you've sought other advice).

@TOWGA that’s terrible. I hope you’ve got your union on the case.

My new shielding letter has popped into my inbox it has extended the vitamin D offer and it talks about a release date of 25th February even if you’ve had both doses of the vaccine
I wasn’t expecting to have had both doses by then

Peachered · 07/01/2021 21:20

@Didkdt do we have different letters?

Mine says to keep shielding after you've had both doses - which most of us won't have had by then as they are spaced twelve weeks apart.

"Even if you have had both doses of the vaccine, you should continue to follow this shielding advice until further notice as we continue to assess the impact of vaccination among all groups. "

It wants to assess the vaccine amongst all groups - that doesn't sound good to me - at least that is what my letter says. I am so miserable.

RuthTopp · 07/01/2021 21:21

So I've just had a falling out (ish) with my dh (cev) because I showed him a pic of a local community centre showing the tables laid out with the vaccination taking place.
He is saying there is no way he is queuing up and going into a room full of people to have a vaccination when we have not been anywhere / had contact with other people in 10 months as he is not prepared to catch it there !
I was incredulous at that. What are your thoughts ?

Peachered · 07/01/2021 21:24

@RuthTopp that he's being quite selfish to be honest.

Has he had a flu vaccine this year, how was that done? What would happen if he got covid - would he refuse to go to hospital if needed?

I think there are a lot of people who are hearing that vaccinations are being done at home and starting to demand that happens to them without realising the only vaccinations being done in the homes or at a person's home (at least where I am) are those who are bed bound entirely and where an entire care home is being vaccinated at once.

Anewuser · 07/01/2021 21:28

@MarieVanGoethem, brilliant news that you're getting the vaccine tomorrow, one step closer to freedom.

@TOWGA, that's awful. It sounds like there's no communication at your workplace. If you're already on furlough, which is available until at least April, why can't they just leave you on that until your smp kicks in?

RuthTopp · 07/01/2021 21:29

I would not qualify to have mine for at least another 2 groups after him .We have shielded together as I do not work so have had our shopping delivered and not been in shops or anywhere. He says their is no point in him having his until I have mine.

RuthTopp · 07/01/2021 21:30

Oops posted too soon.
Because he is not having his without me or if he bought the virus home and have it to me.

Passthewinebottle · 07/01/2021 21:30

DHs email just came in!

@RuthTopp So what's his plan? To stay home forever & ever?!

RuthTopp · 07/01/2021 21:30

gave it to me.

Peachered · 07/01/2021 21:31

@RuthTopp do you get carer's allowance for him by any chance?

RuthTopp · 07/01/2021 21:33

He says he will wait until I have mine, he is cev and I am vulnerable therefore 2 groups behind cev.

RuthTopp · 07/01/2021 21:33

Yes I get carers allowance because of him.

Peachered · 07/01/2021 21:33

The thing is, if he doesn't take the vaccine when offered, he may not get another chance to have it - it could mean he's missed off the list.

The guidance on the letter says we are advised to keep following shielding guidance anyway so they can assess all groups but at least you know if either of you had to go to a hospital, medical appointment etc the most vulnerable of you would be protected.

Did he go for his flu jab?
